I see an NFL corner, who needs to tackle a little better. http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=1...

Wells is a lot like Mike Mitchell. Great skills and he likes to hit people. The one knock I have on him is he sometimes doesn't control his mouth; a senior should know better. That won't be such an issue in the NFL, though.

Happy to see this - I've always been a Wells fan. His tackling has certainly improved over the years. Solid CB.

What a day at the Convo.....Wow!

If he runs 4.4 or below, he will be drafted. He is definitely a great cover corner. I think he is a better cover corner than Carrie and Carrie is a much better tackler. I don't think Wells has gave up a td this year, that will be great for his resume.

"Great cover corner." Good, from this I take that Ohio can have other acknowledged "play-makers" along with Poling. I notice Monroe is not lending his support to this "positive" thread. Wells, another two star recruit, with "only" two other offers; Akron & Toledo. Kudos to Wells. Kudos to the coaches for finding another "play-maker." There is a "Solich" mold these players fit and I include Basham, Sayles, Johnson, Laseak, Carpenter, Vick, Brown, Powell, Wood, Lucas, Lowery, McQueen, Watson, Heitzman, Smith, Tautuiaki, Reid, Cope, White, Sprague, Pruehs, etc. Proud to support them all.

We have some great players, Solich needs to make adjustments and get us over the hump. They definitely know how to coach up players, they have to game plan better and get some consistency. They have got players to the next level. Landon will get a pension. They have done great things for the players and the community, it is time to produce. This may sound negative, but I bet if you asked they would tell you they are tired of being in the middle of the pack.

Irons and Poling are man-child's, lol. They are the JJ Watt's of the MAC if unleashed.

Poling broke his leash a long while ago. I have a feeling Irons just needs to hone his pass protection to see earlier snaps. Blocking is not something you just show a RB and they do it. Like a good pulling guard, some seem to get it sooner, some later. Patterson is not the ideal, Irons does have better size, but, Patterson does see/feel the pressure and in a blink is between the pressure and Vick. No doubt there is plenty of practice evidence on who is best at finding Basham/Laseak or Poling/Johnson/Brown when they are a fraction of a second from the pocket.

Yeah, except if we played Irons, then I'm rather confident that all that other garbage you're stating would be untrue and his talent seems so much greater than the others that people would look at you stunned if you suggested not playing him.

I don't know that it is pass protection that is holding him back. To me the area he could improve is on his inside running. In high school he could bump everything outside and use his speed and balance to get big runs, but at the FBS level the defenders are faster and better tacklers, so you can't always run outside. Sometimes you need to just put the pads down and burrow ahead and try to move the pile. This is a place Daz and AJ both excel. It's just a matter of Irons adjusting to the FBS level, and in time Irons is going to be a beast.

Getting back to Wells, Wells is a guy that showed up in one of the travelling camps and impressed the coaches, so he got an offer. That's the same way a lot of this year's recruits were offered. This year's class isn't a bunch of 3-stars, but they are mostly players that the coaches have seen live and in the flesh. If they turn out as well as Wells, it will be a good class.

It's also worth remembering than back in 2012 Wells was one of three Freshmen corners. Bass was one of the others, and the third was Lorenzo Fisher. It's a shame that Fisher had off the field issues because he was talented, too.

Irons should not play. Now, I know that we've seen bursts of speed and power (didn't look like guys wanted any piece of him on his last long td run). And it looks like he has, and will, get major yards if we just put him in and give him the ball.

But if experts here point to such fine points as inability to run inside, then let him not be given the ball.

Monroe. Hope you are having a fine Sunday, you and yours. Welcome to a thread about Wells as a "great cover corner." Appears Poling might not be the only play-maker. You blew-in and out without supporting allen. Surely just an oversight.

That was why my initial thought was that for the time being, they could use him the same way that they were using White, on jet sweeps, and as a receiver. That way they can try to get him the ball in the open field where he can use his abilities where he is at his best. Against Kent, Irons did have one inside run for about two yards, and it looked better than some of his runs in earlier games. On the other hand, I have to think that Daz and AJ both graded out very, very well in that game.

We clearly have good backs with different styles and strengths, but we've run the ball better the last couple games because the offensive line has done what we expected all season.

if Irons got 20 carries per game he would lead the MACC in rushing. Like I said Roger Lewis would not start here, he would have to wait his turn. Wells was a good recruit and so were many others. Some positions need upgrades. I don't want to say which ones because then people will cry and say I am not a true Bobcat.
