Third consecutive blowout loss. Another season circles the drain. Probably going to miss a bowl again. And most telling, OU is just 11-15 in the MAC since mid-2012. We have become a lower-division program.

I appreciate what Frank did a decade ago in reviving the program, but it's time for new blood. Please step down, Frank.

Unfortunately, the game has passed him by. We need new blood.

Here's the perfect explanation for why we need new blood...I was watching the game with a BG grad tonight. We were debating Frank's worth. He said, "Look at that oldtimer you have walking your sidelines." I said, "He's done more for OU football then most coaches in the country for their programs." He answered that he'd rather have 2 to 4 years of Dino Babers and transcendentalism than 11 years of (overall) mediocre football from Frank. I could not argue him.

While I too am starting to think along these lines I would like to think that the next 2 games are winnable as both opponents have loosing records and we seem to be able to only win games lately against teams with loosing records.
If we were to loose these next 3 I honestly believe that Frank will step down by his own doing.
Let's not throw in the towel just yet. If we end the season @ 7-5 or 8-4 we will look back and say it was a good year all said and done.

Finishing with a winning record this season would be mere window dressing and it's the worst thing that could happen. We need an urgency to make wholesale changes. If Frank and the boys see that and can pull it off. Great. If not, well, someone above them has to up the ante.

I posted this another thread, but I believe it is very pertinent to this as well.

No matter how good the coaching is you win with the right people and talent. The young gun coaching gurus of the MAC; BG, Western Michigan. Northern Illinois and Toledo are doing just that. Sadly, we are content to try and recruit players who the power conferences would never take a second look at. Heaven help us if we played an uptempo team like Memphis. We can hang in there with ground and pound teams even from the Power 5, but we can't compete with uptempo teams even from the MAC. It all comes back to talent, which is why a BG can almost defeat Memphis and we get humiliated by BG.

Even if we were to win out, last night was a thorough demonstration of how woefully our program is behind the top team in our division. It was not a loss, it was a demolition. By halftime it was obvious we were not going to make a game of it.

Championships are won in November and Frank's record in the eleventh month is horrible. This is not a public high school program where a coach has to do the best with who lives in the district and wants to play. Everything about the team, from the coaching, players recruited, offensive/defensive schemes-are all things that he is empowered to control (and responsible for). A coach only in his second year guiding a program should be the one who is manhandled by the coach in his 11th year; not the other way around.

If we were to start over and go in a new direction, how much worse could it be? We won't be able to beat up on the dregs of D1 anymore? We may be better than say Miami when it comes to the bottom feeders but against the top teams our margin of defeat is pretty similar. If we have to endure poor play and underachievement I would prefer that it is all for building a better future, not watching a team guided my leadership that is too long in the tooth with their best days are behind them.

Seriously? What more can it take for you to reach a conclusion that's been obvious for up to 3 years?

I see two big reasons here: first is that I hope Schaus is around to come up with Frank's replacement. I know he does not have a lot of experience dealing with football, but I really believe he would have a pulse of who could move this program forward.
The second thing I fear, is that people are waiting for Frank to hang it up. He is fiercely loyal, something that sounds so positive, but may be a detriment at times. If he assumes that Schaus will not be replacing from within, would Frank be willing to put his friends, Albin and Burrow, out of a job?

Since you mentioned November, I decided to look it up. Frank's record in November actually isn't that bad. Not including this year, he's only had three seasons with losing Novembers. One was 2005, the others were 2012 and 2013.

If/when Frank goes, PLEASE DO NOT HIRE NEW HC FROM CURRENT STAFF!!! That IMHO would be Knorr Version 2.

I was just pointing out something. I'm with you Monroe. The last few years have been for lack of a better term, underwhelming.

As far as I'm concerned, neither Albin or Burrow has shown anything that resembles being anything more than solid and loyal. Those are two great qualities but offensively we've only had a few dynamic years (TT and Beau version 1.0 as an example). Even in our MACC days we weren't dynamic offensively. Defensively we've had some NFL Draft picks but not enough athletes. Chad Moore and Nathan Carpenter are great glue guys and leaders but we have too many of them. Good luck to Burrow and Albin in the future but if we hire from within we are going to be worse. I would love a Tom Herman type of hire!

This is a perfect example of being absolutely content with mediocrity.

7-5.....with wins over Akron, Miami, Kent, Ball, Idaho, SELA and Marshall....and embarrassing losses to Buffalo, WMU, BG, (most likely) NIU and tough loss to Minnesota

That is not what we should be about!

We can be better than that.....

7-5 with that resume is not a "good year all said and done"

Even 8-4 with a resume that you swap in a win at NIU isn't reaching our full potential in my opinion.

Since "The Sack" at Miami....to quote Monroe...we are in full meltdown mode.

2015:

L WMU 49-14
L Buffalo 41-17
L BG 62-24

2014:
L CMU 28-10
L BG 31-13
L WMU 42-21
L NIU 21-14

2013:
L Buffalo 30-3
L BG 49-0
L Kent 44-13

2012
L BG 26-14
L Ball 52-27
L Kent 28-6

THAT'S 0-13 TO ABOVE .500 MAC SCHOOLS?!?!?!

BY AN AVERAGE SCORE OF 38.6-13.5

That's flat out embarrassing and unacceptable. There's only one game on there we lost by less than 10 points.

C'mon. It's time. This is getting no better...only worse with every 62-24 loss.

I absolutely love and respect Frank for what he did to save this football program...but it is time to pass the torch (and NOT to any of his assistants)

Let Schaus make the next hire and let's cross our fingers it's a good one...and in time for the 2016 kickoff

Does anyone here have $500k laying around that you want to pony up to buy out coach for 2016? If so, then drop an email to schaus@ohio.edu .

This is exactly why I have become apathetic about the situation. Unless the staff decides to fall on their own sword, this discussion is nothing more than anonymous internet venting by this message board. Our fanbase is not passionate enough to come up with the money, and it would be irresponsible financially for the school to make that decision with one year left on a contract.

What is happening with the program is pretty sad and painful to watch, but there is not much anyone can do about it either.

Any self respecting man with a set of balls would resign. Lou Holtz resigned, Spurrier resigned and it's about 2 years late on Frank.

No offense, but why on God's green earth would anyone resign if you had a contract in place and not require some form of buyout as a compensatory condition? If you think Holtz/Spurrier/Tressel would resign/retire without compensatory conditions, I have some swampland to sell you. Gallantry went out with King Arthur, sports is a business and coaches are not stupid.

Contracts come with risk to both parties, so I wouldn't blame anyone for requiring a party to honor a contract, on either side of the equation.

This board has largely turned into a clown show. There are a lot of smart people here, but some of this stuff is just so far from reality and/or redundant to the extreme that it has become void of entertainment value.

More like $1.3 million, once you add in all the assistant coach salaries. Albin, Burrow, et al. gotta get theirs too.

(I will say, I do find it an AWFUL odd coincidence that Frank's contract was extended in 2012, and the current collapse started mid-season 2012...)
