After that is was garbage time and we still could only muster 10 points, pitiful. This says it all. The boys just are beaten down, mentally. I have seen this movie before (and been there a few times). I also get the impression the players just cannot get mentally focused any more. Lots of blown assignments and suddenly we are not a good fundamental team. OL stands and doesn't block. D line cannot tackle. This funk rminds me of the 80s-90s. At least then the scores were more like 35-17 all the time. Offenses have come too far not to have a stud at QB. So, GO GET A JC GUY THAT CAN PLAY IMMEDIATELY. They know when team leadership is markedly good or bad. Combine that with what, off the top of my head, is the best run I've seen by a Bobcat back in A LONG TIME. Discount that run by Irons because it was late game against a tired or relaxed BG defense, if you will, but I cannot recall an OHIO running back showing more combined power, speed, and explosiveness. That looked bigtime talent. But we don't play Irons. Ya think the guys on the team don't know that we're refusing to play our clearly best guys? How do you think that the players feel about that? Is that incentive for the defense to kick butt...to come off the field and know we're not bringing our best? Where's the band?! WHERE"S THE BAND?! Jovan trying to make plays with him bum wheels and Daz trying to stop the pick 6 when it was 41-14 are just two things showing that these guys haven't quit. But like with most teams, BG has just too much offensive talent for our defense. There were also some encouraging signs, the best of which was Sprague. Although he was rusty, he didn't show any signs of the injury and had a lot of heat on most of his passes. Even though we showed some different plays, I agree that the play-calling was mostly too conservative. Just compare what NIU did on 3rd and 39 Tuesday night with what we did on 3rd and 18 from about the same part of the field. A QB draw against the 111th pass defense in the country. Ugh. We will get by. We will get by. We will get by. We will survive. It was very effective with Vick in there. I actually thought the team did fairly well on offense between the 20s. Didn't finish drives as well as they could have, but did move the ball very effectively. Honestly -- even though this was a blowout loss -- I felt it was the best game Ohio has played in the past three. I saw signs of progress. Hopefully that can convert into 2-3 wins to close out the season.
