There's an article in today's paper about the end of the Miami-Duke game.

I'm sure by know everyone knows the refs blew at least 4 calls on the final play of the game.

According to the article, the play should have been blown dead, time was expired,Duke should have been the winner of the game.

What's interesting, even though this had to be the last play of the game and the calls were blown, the ACC can't overturn the result.

Just wondering if anyone knows if the MAC is the same ?

I'm actually happy about the result because Miami got screwed on a number of calls throughout the game. There were phantom pass interference calls that led to "game-winning" TD in which Duke's QB questionably crossed the plane of the goal line.

There were multiple issues on the last play of the game and both the officials on the field and in the replay booth totally botched it. If they can't see those issues that were so blatant, then they should be reprimanded accordingly as they were. In fact, I wouldn't even bring them back for the rest of the season.

But you can't change the result of a game. If they were gonna do it they should have called something on the field or in the booth when it happened. It was just an all around horribly officiated game from the opening kick.

I'm sure the MAC and any other conference in probably the same way.

In no league would the results of the game be overturned! That's just how that goes.

To me,a situation like this is unique in that it is possible to say, with no uncertainity, the refs blowing the call resulted in Duke losing a game that they did in fact win.

To me,the ACC has made it clear the refs and replay official messed up by suspending them for 2 games.
Therefore, making Duke the winner would merely make sure the correct team won. That's not "overturning" the results of the game.

But that's opening a can of worms to a ton of other games decided by one play. It happens all the time. And sometimes just as blatantly obvious as the one we saw Saturday.

In the statement suspending the refs, it was noted that, "We're charging the officials with a safety even though they were on the four yard line."

Then there's the infamous missed but "good" extra point try that would have given Toledo the win over Syracuse in regulation rather than a UT loss in OT. This was so bad that it was the reigning ESPN "Worst of the Worst" for the rest of the season. This one should have been reversed by conference officials and declared a Toledo win. How much more evidence do you need?

How about if all the games are played on a TV sound stage and someone reviews it after it's over and then decides what was right, what was wrong and who should have won?

Yes, I know, playing a game in front of empty stands just to show on video is plain stupid so I guess no conference would ever go along with that idea...., but wait...

Tuesday, November 10, 2015 in Athens, Ohio Ohio vs. Kent @ 8:00PM. We could try this out!

With all the video reviews, these days they get a lot less calls wrong than in the old days, but the cost is probably an extra 15 minutes a game. I don't expect they will ever be perfect, though.

Once the refs leave the field, the game is over.

But....

A few years ago in the NFL the replay official hadn't finished reviewing the final play when the refs left the field and, as I recall, it was determined that there still should've been time left on the clock. So some 20 minutes later they brought the teams back onto the field for one last play. I don't think it changed the outcome.

I agree that it's ridiculous for a conference to come back a day or two later and change the outcome of the game. The NCAA doesn't even do it when they take wins away from a program for rules violations. That's life. The Dukies will just have to live with it.

I will admit that it does kind of suck that the Duke football team (which I like) got the shaft when it should have been the Duke basketball team (which I hate) for all of their preferential treatment over the years.
