According to a twitter account from The POST he is working with Javon and will start at the "Mike" LB position.

Very interesting . . . Is Frank thinking out of the box? Thought he was too old to do that. ;-)

Not that I don't think Ouellette could play MLB, but.....until I see it, I am going to assume this is just Johnson having some fun with a Post reporter.

IF if happens, great. When he was announced as a recruit, I expected he would end up at linebacker, and then he surprised me by becoming the starting running back. He's strong. He's smart. He's tough. He's fast. He can do it, and do it well. Good luck to him.

With White out, if AJ moves to MLB, Buffalo will be seeing a lot of Brown and Irons, I would guess.

Given Brown's ability to fill in, I would see if Ouellette and Irons both might be able to tackle. Irons has MLB size, but, Grilliot does too, though he might have added extra weight to be a TE. "Defense Wins Championships"

AJ is MLB size, and in the small high school setting that's probably where he played. His role in the offense has diminished every week. I have my personal opinions of why and I'll keep them to myself. OCF, wouldn't call it thinking outside the box as much as I'd defer to an old School House Rock: Mother Necessity. AJ is a football player, that is his greatest asset, he will be fine there

My first thought was absolute desperation. Big concerns about DiCillo and Croutch if moving the running back over is a better option.

Love AJ. He's all heart. Anything to fill the need. But he's inexperienced at LB and listed as 195 lbs. Expecting much out of him at LB is not reasonable or fair. Guys listed 10-20 or more lbs bigger have gotten dinged.

Don't take the roster at face value. My guess is that he's heavier than listed, perhaps 205-210. I agree with Billy. AJ is a football player, and I think he'll make a heck of a MLB.

I also think running back will be fine, as we'll get Daz, Irons, and Brown instead of Daz, AJ, and Papi.

I think this is a great idea because 1) AJ played this position in HS 2) we are loaded at RB and 3) he is a team player and will do whatever is needed to help the team win. He may not start but I think he will get some PT at MLB.
This could also have a real positive impact on the team as he is seen as a leader and this leader will switch positions to help "THE TEAM".
Great move on the part of the coaching staff.

That leads me to believe it's more of a case where they are seeing what he can do on defense. Perhaps Johnson has been really impressed, but starting Ouellette at a position he hasn't practiced in two years before this week might be a little much.

5'10" and 195 is a little smallish for middle linebacker so I would hope it's mostly on pass downs.

This is what I was thinking. More of a rover role in a Nickel.

What kind of offense does UB run? Maybe he can be a guy that check a TE in passing downs? Or guys out of the backfield?

I think you're right, UpSan. We might not be in the same position Florida is regarding its kicker (http://ftw.usatoday.com/2015/10/the-florida-gators-mascot... ) but we're verrry thin at LB this week and Solich probably was just auditioning him. I imagine he'll be in a some point, but maybe not starting.

The Game Notes now have Ouellette at 204 this season. Please don't use roster or depth chart weights, they have not been updated.

A baseball reference for you "HDMH".

I would also suggest "WDMH".

I've noticed the last few games anyway that OJ is in on punt cover and maybe KO return, too, although that may have been our good hands team out there. No doubt he wants to be on the field and we need the help.

This is crazy. Oulette out of the woodwork last year as a walk-on true fresh RB starter. This year coach is putting him at Linebacker because he's hungry to play. Frank's had 12 recruiting classes in Athens I'd think he'd have it figured out by now. 10 classes since the first bowl appearance. 5 recruiting classes since the first bowl win. And this is where we are today.

If Ouelette does play linebacker, I assume he will play even less at running back. Plus White is out, so that should make some people happy that Irons will move up the depth chart, though from what we've seen before as to when guys come into games, I'd guess Patterson and Brown still are ahead of him.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say here, Wes. I gather you're trying to spin it as somehow negative that Ohio was lucky enough to land AJ. AJ is a "football player", and he belongs on the field. He's also a team player, and will play where needed to help the team. How is that a bad thing? You lost me.

Last year Ohio was short on running backs who didn't fumble, so AJ played there. If they have been short of linebackers last year, AJ would have been a linebacker last year. One way or the other, AJ will be on the field, and he'll play wherever he's needed and do a good job. A team player like him is a great asset to the team, and guys like him that can play multiple positions are probably the best answer to the injury problems because they enable the team to reconfigure itself to remain strong.

It isn't unheard of for a guy to play multiple positions, especially when there are injuries. As far as temporary switches, you may recall that Byrum played some wide receiver in 2005 when there were injuries that depleted WR. There have also been plenty of permanent switches, too, just as Thad Turner moving from WR to CB.

I just don't see how this is a big deal. It's simply a team that is cohesive, trying to win in the face of adversity.

AJ has had 6 touches the past two games, he's already been pretty much removed from the offense the past couple weeks.

Back in the 90s I lived in New York state and often listened to The Fan. Don Imus had the morning show (before the sports talk started) and he used to say something like

"... baseball is easy. It has to be the easiest game. C'mon, I go to Yankee Stadium last night and their pitcher (Jim Abbott) only has one arm...I mean how hard can it be, you know?"
