Why are we forced to drink the swill of the highest bidder? Actually, I did see the article. I am not so sure that they didn't pick WVU for the featured site of beer sales because of our the reputation for excessive partying. This backwoods image is accentuated by the photo for the article which showed a few hillbillies holding G. Gordon Gee photo/fans. This being said, I mostly wanted to just vent about the lack of drinkable beer in the Tower Club. Thank you for providing the forum in which to do so. Much appreciated, thank you. It's tolerable. Buttwiper and Bud Light are two of the lowest rated beers in the world for a reason. It would be great if we could get stuff from one of the three Athens breweries and ciderhouse, but I imagine there's a reason we're stuck with macros. I was surprised on a trip to the UK about six years ago that almost every pub we went into had Budweiser and they sold it at a premium. It was touted as the "exotic foreign beer." It was almost always the most expensive draft. The only BLSS Certified Hypocrite on BA "It is better to be an optimist and be proven a fool than to be a pessimist and be proven right." In the last 10 years or so, the quality and number of craft brews in the US has gone through the roof. I know guys who were strict Coors Light drinkers who won't touch the stuff today. Beer drinkers I know often talk about what they're drinking the way that wine drinkers describe that beverage. It all depends on the sophistication of your palate. I would agree that how beer is served has a bigger impact on taste than differences between labels of domestic lagers, but I also think we can clearly establish a hierarchy among them: 1. Beer someone else buys 2. Beer that is cold 3. Beer with greater than 5% ABV 4. Miller High Life 5. Whatever beer is sitting immediately in front of you. Wouldn't spring for the extra shilling for a Bud. ;-) One thing I HATED were the English "bitters." I once ordered a Cinci Cream, I guess because the name reminded me of Cincinnati, Ohio. What I used to do was to take a number of beers and put them into unmarked glasses, and then let people sample them, and give their opinion. Certainly everyone could detect flavor difference, even back then, but which flavor was "good" and which was "cheap" or "nasty"? That was the hard part. My experiments showed that back then, if they knew which was which, the heavily advertised beers were always "good", while the cheap ones were always "nasty", but if they were drinking from an unmarked glass, they were just as apt to choose the cheap one as their favorite. My personal favorite among lager beers was "Blatz" which was not only cheap, but I liked it. Furthermore, since flavor-wise it was virtually indistinguishable from Michelob, that allowed me to prank numerous people by putting them both in the same taste test. My experience decades ago on a trip to the UK on a special leave from Pleiku, the featured imported beer in a number of pubs was that incomparable swill, Carling. But I agree about the bitters. I got married in Mexico five years ago. the all inclusive resort featured imported beer on our side, coors light. I ordered dos equip exclusively for 10 days. haven't touched it since. a few years ago my peers and I unanimously named Pumpking as the best pumpkin ale. this year we all dislike it. could it have changed? I reach for Schlafleys now when the pumpkin urge appears. I don't know how I made it through 3 years of quad nights back in the day. I'd love to see the reactions from this board if they were served a quad nowadays. spirits from plastic bottle? blech! I am typing this wearing Muck Fiami shirt, an annual tradition. 9 out of 10 is impressive!!!
