why someone needs to be fired.

Up 14-7, get ball at about our 30 with 2:27 to go. First three plays are runs, taking clock to about :50 and getting us to about our 45.

Then, most of our next plays are toward the middle of the field, not toward the sideline...including at least one run to help run the clock down, leaving us not enough time to run more plays. We don't call timeouts or use the sideline strategically.

THAT WAS ABSOLUTELY CALCULATED NOT TO HAVE A CHANCE TO SCORE SIX..AND TO HAVE ONLY A MODERATE CHANCE FOR 3.

Missed FG.

Could we play call more conservative, scared?

Just pathetic.

No. Just frustrated at football that's geared to put us into position to not win.

It helped tonight that stupd cow's offense is brutal.

I'm saving this message for the night the cats win in Detroit, later this year.

Book it.

Monroe is right, we do get conservative with the lead, but the coaches change their ways in the fourth quarter, when Sprague came out passing and we went for it on 4th down. Great game coaches.

Most teams get conservative when their starting qb gets hurt and they have a dominant D.

As a fan I would like to see them stay aggressive in every situation. As a coach I get the need to get up by two scores, at least ten, so I get what they did before half. It just did not work, credit Marshall.

Watch that drive. Watch the plays that we called and the time that we let lapse between snaps. I'll bet you find that the first 3 plays were runs, only got us to about our own 45, and took the clock from about 2:27 to about :50.

Either I'm not very smart or you who disagree with me are not...Did stupd cow stop us there, pen us in? Or did we leave ourselves not enough clock to take a reasonable shot for six or to get in for a gimme field goal?

That wasn't conservative.

That was over the edge, extreme conservative.

Especially with our D playing well enough to just shut out stupd cow--why not take a LEGITIMATE effort to score on that drive?

Only saw the 4th quarter live and will watch the full game late. 4th and short call to go for it not a typical call.( either gutsy or conservative depending on confidence or lack of confidence on place kicker). I think gutsy call.

Then the direct snap to 45. Not a conservative call at all when you would most expect it.

I have leaned toward the side of not happy with conservative play calling but think there is evidence of a different approach. Maybe the talent/experience on the field allows for a bit of a different approach.

We do lack the killer instinct. Idaho and Marshal were allowed to hang around longer than I like. The defense dominated the whole game yet we couldn't get a two possession lead until late in the game.

A little credit to Marshall is in order. Defending conf champs and only three games ago they were thumping NIU in their bowl. Two games ago Ohio was 6-6 and not in a bowl. Plus the process of wearing them down with an oline looks like that.

I wanted them to be conservative there, too, for those exact reasons. I didn't want them using Sprague to throw deep, into a secondary that was expecting it. What you saw was very much like a basketball team playing for the last shot to end the half. You either score, or you don't, but the other team definitely doesn't.

+1 Exactly my thoughts, expressed better than I would have.

In answer to a question posed earlier in this thread. There is no medication for what Monroe has. It is not a treatable condition, but it's not fatal either nor contagious. It's just chronic and must be lived with.

It's really not unreasonable to shoot for a FG in this situation. I have no problem with it, Yazdani is an important part of this team. Any score was a big score tonight.

3 games and 9 months ago. You can call safe plays and still play with urgency. I'm talking dropped passes and procedure penalties. We controlled the game but couldn't put it away until the waning moments. We had drive killers the entire second half and they were unforced errors. Sorry I can't give Marshall credit based on their achievements last bowl season. By executing without mistakes we could've blown out the Herd.

Playing "with urgency" is often the cause of unforced errors. It was a big game for the players. I expect they were pressing. They know it could have been better. They were not expected to be 2-0 at this point. I refuse to be disappointed. Credit to Ohio, Marshall is a team NIU could not handle just a few games ago.

We weren't playing with urgency, we were playing not to lose. This team regardless of record needs to work on unforced errors. Dropped passes, procedure penalties, and dead ball personal fouls. We beat the same university that routed NIU but not the same team. Clearly Marshall is better with a four year starter than with a new quarterback. That's as ridiculous as saying Ohio's record against Purdue is a reasonable comparison to Marshall. We didn't beat the same Marshall team that beat NIU.
Even after a win not everything is rainbows and butterflies. There's plenty to work on because this team is far from achieving the goal we all want to see accomplished a championship. If you don't think this team needs work you'll be sorely disappointed later this year.

Yes the team needs some work. The defense however looked great. I am very concerned with the Ohio kicking game and that is an area where championship teams should be solid. But consider the fact that Ohio faced adversity in this game and had scoring drives that finished with 3 different quarterbacks. That ain't bad.

So now, especially those of us who reside between Athens and Huntington and have to live with WSAZ, WOWK, WVAH, WCHS, The Herald Dispatch and Mr. Chuck Landon (aka UNACCEPTABLE)and a bunch of Marshall fans, we are going to enjoy the fact that Ohio has won 4 of previous 5 and own the bragging rights until 2019!

GO OHIO!

I totally agree.

So, we should have taken a reasonable shot at scoring a td. Getting up 21-7 would have about ended the game at that point. But we made no effort at all to score six. I defy anyone to show that we did.

And, we did not make a legit effort to get in position for an easy/gimme field goal. The first three plays took clock from 2:27 to about :52. That is HORRIBLE CLOCK MANAGEMENT. Left us with...oops, missed a 41 yarder.

I was very very happy with yesterday's game and outcome, but I agree with Monroe (hey, it could happen). That last drive and the clock management was pretty bad. Even if we were playing safe for 3, we still needed more yards and we gacked away a lot of time. I understood taking our time on the first series because we wanted to ensure Marshall couldn't get the ball, but once we locked that up, there was no urgency. You could see the missed fg coming a mile away.
