We wasted our timeouts and did not tackle well.

Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. Woody Hayes

It is a gosh darn shame. DB's and WR's are players that MUST make catches. I know that #41 is our best DB and will probably play at the next level, but if he makes that catch for the INT, the game is over. And then pass interference on the very next play. It was right there in front of us, waiting for us to take it. Darn it, that was frustrating.

With all the coulda, woulda, shouldas out of that game, the dropped INT is the one that eclipses all the rest.

Still:
Four Minnesota fumbles, and we recover only one -- that one in the end zone on the first punt of the game could have been giant.

Minnesota getting that lucky never-called delay-of-game to avoid us getting a chance at a last-second FG.

And dumb, dumb penalties, including two or three killers on their final drive.

With the exception of the Daz kickoff return, we kind of choked away the last five minutes.

My daughter and I were watching the game and even she, a relatively inexperienced football observer, was jumping up and down shouting "FACEMASK!" There was also a blown holding call on the same play. Congratulations Big 10 refs, you won the game.

Indeed a heartbreaker.

Great game to watch. No reasons to hang our heads on that one.

Settling for the FG late and the dropped INT were serious, serious bummers.

But, we looked darn good overall.

Bring on the MAC.

Your daughter is spot on. I was going to capture both of the missed calls you mentioned but I did not extend the recording of the game far enough. There was also a mugging inside the 10 yard line on the final Minnesota drive on an interior Ohio D-lineman but I didn't get that either.

Doesn't matter. I've been a part of these games for so many years I expect it to happen. Nothing we can do about it except win the remaining games.

Minnesota is a very solid defensive team. We let them run on us when it counted and that is on Burrow.

As sharp as we looked, even without our three best defensive players (Johnson, Basham, Poling) for the key segments of the game, this team really shouldn't lose to anyone but BG and NIU the rest of the way.

I say SHOULDN'T. But we're 9-12 in our last 21 MAC games, so I'm not counting any chickens.

Wells had 3 bad plays in one series, missed an easy tackle with a pitiful attempt that was an 11 yard gain, dropped an interception then got a holding call.

Agreed. This play occurred on the end of the field where we were sitting and was right in front of us on the far sideline. I had a good view of it. I thought he was going to pull it in, and I was ready to go into my victory dance, and then instead I was into an instant depression. Colorado66 was right beside me, and we suffered through those final minutes together and never gave up hope until the bogus delay of game call. It was really nice to meet him in person after all of these years of BA exchanges.

Some untimely penalties really hurt. No need to hang our heads. The Gophers will play in a bowl and Ohio more than held its own.

It must make most of you feel so smart to pick at the performances of these players. The spread was what? Have any of you ever tried to tackle another athlete that might be a step faster than you. After a game like this you shake hands, say great game and move on. How many of you have done the classy thing, going to a Minn fan site and offered congratulations?

This is the kind of game you dream of and want to play if you're a MAC team. A winnable game against a B10 foe and sorry we couldn't close it out. I wonder what was happening at the end with all of our offside calls. Was their QB drawing us or were we doing it to ourselves? I've never seen so many penalties against one team that had the game in hand as we did.

So no criticism is allowed now? All the posts in this thread seemed like reasonable analysis. I think you are too closely connectecd to the program.

If people tell the truth about players don't criticize them. Wells did have a bad series. We are glad to have him, I am sure he agrees. Geeez

Wells has been dealing with a back injury for a while. He was up to probable for this week and played. If it makes you feel smart to point out his failings against a top opponent without giving him credit for his efforts while less than 100%, go for it.

Wells is a warrior that had a bad series. He would agree. You need to be real, nobody feels sorry for him in the NCAA and nobody will in the NFL. He will grow from this game, I am sure. The fans just stated the fact. I wish I could have said Wells was the MVP for making a pick 6 at the end of the game, but I can't.

It's happened before when a MAC team is playing at a Big 10 school. One such game: Northern Illinois took a late lead at Wisconsin. Then, during Wisconsin's final possession, NIU was flagged for a series of penalties that allowed the Badgers to "drive" for the winning score.

It looked like we were offside. The homer argument is always valid in MAC vs B10, but it looked like we jumped.

Between the injuries suffered in the game and the delay of game call it really was a heartbreaker. If our line and Vick had been able to stay healthy I think we do a bit better keeping a lead against Minnesota.
