Probably next week. I hope after Dorian Brown who deserves some reps too.

I think it's something of a reasonable consensus on this board that he's our one guy on O who may have really marked talent?

If so, with our qb'ing being not notable, would we not try him then?

I grant the sample size last game was small, but it was impressive.

In the second half, before the drive for the td very late in the 4th quarter, our offense did nothing (rivaled for stalling only by stupd cow's).

So, why not try Irons??

Irons was suspended for the first half last week. Do we know why? If Irons is not doing his work in the classroom or is breaking other rules could be the problem. His garbage time TD against a garbage opponent was very impressive. He's had two carries in his career. Let's not anoint him just yet.

I agree he looks the part perhaps we don't know the whole story.

Good point. In fact, no one on this board has any connections, any little inside info. So, consensus here is totally uninformed. In fact, we should ignore it, do the opposite.

First, I don't see or hear a consensus. Second, while a few may be truly knowledgable, most like you and I are just alumni that might just as well be drinking in the Junction talking Bobcat sports.

It's a long season. Daz and AJ had so many effective moments tonight. Maybe you could have slid in Irons during a weak point in the 3rd quarter? I dunno, stakes were way too high to opt for him over two experienced backs.

cc-cat. You know, given coach Solich's experience as a RB coach and those he coached, Mike Rozier (1983 Heisman Trophy), Ahman Green (Green Bay's all-time leading rusher), Kalvin McRae etc., he would be the last person I would second guess on decisions regarding RBs.

Cmon sense says that Daz/Aj or going to get most if the carries. A fumble by the RBs tonite would have killed us. I expect to see Irons get work next week against the FCS school hopefully. Greg Windham too. Irons has FOUR years calm down

Well. Perspective I guess. The team (coaches & players) just won a game they were expected to lose. Held Marshall 35 points below their scoring average. Most are happy. Yet there is that one "fan" who is just compelled to explain "why someone needs to be fired." How much did you lose on this game?

Thinking that giving Irons a carry which could lead to fumble--really? Isn't that true at almost any point in the year. So to avoid key detriment, only insert him in mop-up when we're way ahead or way behind?

In that case, he may never get in. And then the crowd here, if he killed it, would point to how that killing was only against scrubs so don't let him in during prime time...'cause he might fumble.

Simply, There are reasonable to significant indications that he may be a real stud. Which we don't have any on offense, especially with quarterbacking proving to be moderate at best.

So, I'm why not find out if we have a real star on our hands?

Don't right away give him 18 carries. But try four to six. See what happens.

It amazes me that most here find that a bad approach.

Did you see our offense?...Basically except for the opening drive and the late 4th qtr drive for the td, we put up about 50+ minutes of no offense at all.

Finding out how guys play...playing the best guys. Not a good idea.

I think that both Irons and Dorian Brown are very talented, and that both will do well when they are in. I am very much looking forward to seeing both of them, because they are Ohio's future. On the other hand, I have no complaints about how AJ played, or how Daz played. Given that the game was close, and that Ohio was winning, there was every reason to stay with what was working, and after all, it did work, and Ohio won.

I expect that in three of the next four games we will see some of Irons and Brown, after which we'll have a much better idea of what they can do. Here's hoping that four games from now one or both of them will have dazzled us, and that we're all calling for them to get more carries. That would be a nice problem to have.

Sorry. BUt that totally misses the point that Irons may be a total star.

Is he? Debatable. But have we seen/heard this type of buzz at OHIO for a running back in a long while? Espec one with his size and supposed speed? Espec one who in even an admittedly small sample has looked pretty decent.

Not giving him a few carries is simply senseless.

Look, if it doesn't work, that's fine. But to not find out???

Would most teams, espec in MAC, not give him carries?

what a straw man. we had 3 backs last night and all performed at a high level but you want to complain that the coaching staff messed up because they didn't sub one of those high performing backs out for an unproven RS freshman.

You think its "senseless" not to give him "a few carries" and "if it doesn't work, that's fine". Really? That's fine??? In a tight game vs a rival in front of a sold out crowd??? that's fine???

You complain for the sake of complaining, even if your complaint is hypothetical and completely irrelevant. Monroe, you might be the Ted Cruz of Bobcat Nation.

Beyond that, Monroe needs Irons to play so he can know what we have. Well, I believe the coaches who have been developing Mr. Irons for a year now already know what they have. If it drives Monroe crazy not knowing, well, if not this, something else would. His play in practice, running, receiving and blocking will eventually earn game time, or not. They don't put players in for them to show what they can do. It works the other way, show what you can do in practice to earn time in games. Again, those who need to know what Mr. Irons can do already know, they are his coaches.

So Bcat2 your position is that Irons is behind at least 3 other RB's in the rotation? I'm with Monroe on this one that Irons deserves a chance to show what he's got.

yes, if only there was a way to get all of the decision makers together to watch Irons and see what he's capable of, maybe some time in the spring, or the entire month of August, or several times a week during the season... just some time where Irons could show what's he's got. Because apparently that's never happened. And after all, he deserves it. If only...

Respectfully, one more time. Mr. Irons has been demonstrating "what he's got" to the coaches for a year thru this spring and fall. When his running, blocking, receiving & circumstances get together he will get the call. Where this or that player might be in the scheme of things I am content to leave to the coaches. They are together day to day and don't need my input.

Just a few quick points;

There was a guy on this board last year who complained that Daz was just too small and not muscular enough to run inside and off-tackle. Well, he bulked up a little and became a little stronger and is now running behind a much-improved OL, and guess what? He's doing quite well.

I thought Irons would play against Marshall. I was disappointed that he didn't. But, I believe he will see the field relatively soon. I'm not sure why he didn't play against Marshall. I know that in the Idaho game he had a half-game suspension for violation of some "team rule." While his suspension is over, Frank may still be making a disciplinary point in keeping him out. It's also possible he's thinking strategically to wait until the Minnesota game to play him so that the Gophers will have less film of him. Or, maybe he'll play in next week's game where if he makes a few freshman mistakes they'll be less costly. I'm sure the coaches know the level of his talent and will use him in due course. While I may second guess the coaches, I know that my statements on this matter are being made by one who really has no idea about the team dynamics. In other words, sometimes coaching decisions are based on more than just raw talent and take into account such concepts as leadership, how certain players interact with each other, maturity of thought and action, seniority, intensity in practice, knowledge of the playbook, academic performance, the reaction of the team to playing a new guy over a seasoned veteran, maturity of thought and action, psychological preparation, stressors that may be influencing the players life at that time, etc. All are legitimate and some are very intangible. A good coach weighs these and many other factors in making personnel decisions. If a coach like Frank has an outstanding lifetime record one should, IMHO, give him the benefit of the doubt if he doesn't play a guy when you think he should.
