Per a tweet from Charlie Hatch, Vick's elbow was still swelling, and "Solich said could be out for 'sometime'".
https://twitter.com/charliehatch_?ref_src=twsrc^tfw

Meanwhile, per Arkley, in the Messenger, "Solich said Sprague’s injury was to his upper body and 'could be extensive.'"

I'm not concerned about it. If both of the first two are iffy, I think that they should start Windham, and give Vick and Sprague some extra time to recover. Windham could use some game experience anyway.

Given what is being said right now about the injuries, I would not be surprised to see Windham starting for an extended period. I wouldn't be surprised to see Duckworth in for a series or two.

What is it with "upper body" injuries during the Marshall game? Should we assume that Sprague will not run the ball again?

I see this being Windham's version of Vick playing the whole game vs Norfolk St in 2012 to give TT a chance to heal.

On that note, question for LC or anyone who has been up close with the program-

- Is Joey Duckworth the next Tyler Tettleton?
- Is Louie Zervos the next Matt Weller?

I just hope that we have a stable QB situation by the Akron game. That is a road game that is a road game where a loss is very possible and could easily be a season killer.

PennsylvanniaCat corrected a comment I made earlier about that. TT was actually hurt the week before the Marshall game, at New Mexico State. I remember that he was limited against Marshall in what he could do.

To me an "upper body injury" that could be for "an extended period" leads me to think about a broken rib. Those are not fun, and take awhile to heal, but they shouldn't have any long-term implications. I've seen QBs play with a broken rib, in a flack jacket, but they definitely do not run the ball. I hope Sprague's injury is not serious, and that when he does return, he'll be able to play without fear of re-injury.

I have to wonder if a broken rib against NMSU isn't exactly what happened to TT and they just didn't tell anyone. I was limited against Marshall the next week and avoided hits all game. Then near the end he took a shot and didn't seem like the same guy the rest of his career. If that shot was to a broken rib sustained the week before it had to hurt like crazy. Whatever it was made him gun shy about running the rest of his career.

I'm comfortable with Greg starting get ready for a huge arm he has been the best QB in practice for awhile. If you think Duckworth or Maxwell will see the field anytime soon then you are delusional hopefully those guys dont get in unless ohio is up 50

I for one am looking forward to seeing Windham get a significant look with the first teamers. I think he's got the most upside of our top 3 QBs.

It was a thrilling moment when Windham was forced into the game, cold. I thought how slick, for a guy to come ready for the snap, stop, look to the bench, then walk along the line like he was audibling while the ball was direct snapped to Oulette--that Windham, he's one cool customer!

I don't know if it is delusional to give Duckworth snaps in this game if BOTH Sprague and Vick are out for an extended period. The guy hasn't played in a football game since his junior year in high school. If the team is up by several scores, this is the game to give him "just in case" snaps.

In his brief appearances last year I was very impressed with his arm, so I already expected that. I have no idea how the rest of his game is, however. I take it from various comments that he had an outstanding off-season, and that he's ready to play. I have no concerns at all about him starting. I hope he has a great game.

I also agree with BurritoBuggySlave that, if Ohio has the game put away, there is no reason not to give a few live snaps to Duckworth. Maxwell, of course, should be redshirted.

Ha! Have you seen how inept the Akron passing game is? Look at their passing stats after two games and you'd swear they were an option team. Besides, Ohio ownes Akron! What's it been, eight straight wins? And the last trip to Akron we crushed them 43-3! With the way the defense is playing and how the offense is running the ball Ohio could beat Akron without throwing a single pass. Ohio will beat Akron no matter who is at QB.

Not necessarily. "Most potential" and "best at the current time" are two different things. In any case he may not start if one of the others is OK, but he'll no doubt get some playing time, after which we'll all have a better idea. The same goes for Irons (and Dorian Brown).

Perhaps a question of semantics. If he didn't move from #3 to the top of the pack in the off season, then spring and fall camps then our staff doesn't see his skills the same as some observers at this site.

Ready for a hot taek? Windham is the starting QB this season if he doesn't get caught up in that drug situation. And Sprague would still be a non-scholarship player.

Per the comments of the coaches he moved up from a clear #3 well behind the others to just barely behind them. Isphording said something along the lines that he'd never seen any QB improve as much in one year as Windham has improved in the last year. If he improves again over the next year, where will he be?

From what little I've seen, Windham has the best arm of the three QBs. That doesn't mean he's the best overall QB. There are a lot of other things, such as game management, audibling, running, sensing pressure, knowing when to throw the ball away, being a leader, etc. Some of those I think Vick is the best at, and others I think Sprague is. As to who is the best overall QB, that's the call the coaches have to make.

I do agree with C. Money, though. Windham had a year off from football, and that set him back quite a lot.

Folks, ya gotta remember, this staff seems to look more for a game MANAGER not necessarily the star player. given their success, I guess that is ok to a point. But, to win that MACC we need a QB that consistently operates at a very high level.

Solich said a lot on this subject in his press conference, and yet said very little:
http://tinyurl.com/oxrs3m9

Basically, if one of the others is ready, they will start, if not, Windham will start, and if Windham starts, he and the coaches have confidence in him, and more importantly, Windham has confidence in himself.

I don't have much doubt Windham will start SE Louisiana.

I am more curious about who starts against Minnesota. I'm assuming the staff will keep Vick and Sprague listed as questionable right up until game time. I don't see why they wouldn't. Extra uncertainty can only hurt Minnesota.

I've seen crazier things happen.

Very good point. But we could win a MACC with the defense/intensity we saw on Saturday, combined with a dominant ground game. We know that's how Frankie would like to do it.

I would be fine with giving Windham the start in the next 2 games. The SLU game since we can win that with average QB play and the Minnesota game because the outcome there doesn't matter. Coming up is a perfect time to learn and get adjusted to the speed of the game. If he plays well just leave him in.

I more or less agree with both of you. I do think they could win the MACC without an elite QB by grinding it out, and the 2009 team came close to that. On the other hand, to be a really special team, they need a special QB. That was also true when Solich was at Nebraska under Devaney. They had some decent teams, including some conference championships, without elite QBs, but when they had the elite QBs (Frazier, Gill, Tagge, Humm), those were the teams that were really fun to watch. That's why I keep hoping that one of the QBs will "be that guy".
