2015 Opener: Marshall, ???
2014 Opener: Idaho, 25,211
2013 Opener: North Texas, 24,511
2012 Opener: NMSU, 25,893

It is only Monday and there are not many seats left on ohiobobcats.com for this one. I'd imagine the single game tickets that remain are gone before week's end. After those sellout, I guess it comes down to how many students we can pack into Peden? Sales stated there could be over 8,000 students alone. How many students have to enter before they stop allowing any more on Victory Hill?

Weather might be the only variable. Right now the weather looks pretty good. High of 75 with a 40% chance of rain/scattered thunderstorms. Temperature should move down towards mid 50's into the evening. If the rain stays away, it should be a beautiful night for football.

While Marshall should travel very well, I expect a strong OHIO crowd for this one, just like each of the past couple home openers. Should be a great atmosphere! Peden should be electric this Saturday!

I've seen crazier things happen.

If the weather holds it will be north of 26K unless the Fire Marshall cuts it off. If they don't shut the gate it may go over 27K. In either event, it will be sold out with possible largest crowd ever. What an atmosphere!

Is there a good buzz on campus for this game?

I was trolling Herdnation.com and noticed a post from the Ohio ticket office encouraging Marshall fans to buy tickets in advance. In the post the OU ticket office mentioned that Marshall did not sell its original allotment and returned tickets in section 109-110. I was a little surprised although I assume they will be energized after the Purdue win this past weekend.

No reason to be surprised. As dumb as many of their fans are, even they knew it was cheaper to purchase family packs instead of single game seats. Check stubhub, tickets for sale for every OHIO home game, that never happens.

OhioBobcats.com has about 1,000 tickets left with some in 109.

For those of you coming from the south up 32, remember that this is Paw Paw Fest weekend so you might encounter a bit of a traffic slow down near Albany.

On that note, I give my full endorsement of attending the Paw Paw Festival and an evening football game at Peden on the same day. I won't be in town this weekend, but in the future if there's a home football game the same weekend as Paw Paw, I may opt to camp at Lake Snowden for a night or two.

Lol +1

And I think because it's the home opener this games going to be packed with students. All the freshmen are going to want to see their first college football game. However let's hope there is no mass exodus at half this game. Hopefully if the game is close people will want to stay and see it to the end but who knows.

My daughter is now a freshman and I told her if she leaves at after halftime I won't pay her bill for 2nd semester! I know I don't have to worry about her. She's like her old man and will be there for the football game.

I am told that the first 4 home games are/will be sell outs. By game-time SRO and Victory Hill only thing available.

Weather.com is saying partly cloudy with rain after midnight. I have a feeling it's going to be changing by the hour leading up.

stupd cow fans buying family plan season tix in order to get a ticket for this game....two effects:

Total revenue higher this way than would actually be achieved by visiting fans buying single game tickets?

Phantom fans (season ticket bought but only attend one game) boosting total ANNOUNCED season attendance (if announced = tickets sold/allocated)?

OK, you might be on to something, however, considering Marshall does receive a block of tickets to sell through their own ticket office to their own fans, just how many do you suppose decide to go the route you describe? Tens or hundreds?

I've been watching this too, and it's not looking promising at the moment. I've also learned that 36-48 hours in advance or less is when I'm willing to trust a forecast. Hopefully it improves, or a full afternoon of tailgating plans are in jeopardy.

Marshall actually returned a portion of their block of tickets, so it seems like a good portion of their fans opted to buy the family pack season tickets. It's a smart move on their part. After fees, family plan season tickets are over $10 cheaper than single game tickets for the Marshall game.

Looks like the ticket office didn't consider this, or are they not concerned?

I'm wondering what kind of impact this is going to have on actual attendance at this year's games? I'm sure the athletic department is happy with the sales, but let's be honest, most of these Marshall fans aren't coming to any other games in Athens.

I feel like there'll be butts in those seats most games anyway. They'll be able to sell the other Saturday games on Stubhub for sure. Personally, I knew I was going to the Miami and Marshall games so I bought a family pack and I'm going to give the extra tickets to family members that live in Ohio and wouldn't otherwise attend an OHIO football game. The university gets revenue AND some potential new Bobcat converts.

For Parents Weekend, the WMU game and especially Homecoming, I would think there will be demand for tickets on stubhub. For those MACtion games, I'd imagine those seats go unused but that was probably going to be the case anyway so I will take the extra revenue.

Those corner seats traditionally have not been heavily used, so I really do not see much downside to offering them so cheap with the potential of getting SE Ohio families to become fans of Bobcat football.

I've seen crazier things happen.

And then they can turn around and offer deep discounts on the fan sites and make money back, essentially getting their ticket for free.
