Their future OOC games (according to fbsschedules.com):

2016: Presbyterian, at Oklahoma State, UNLV, at Virginia
2017: Rhode Island, at Kansas, at Syracuse
2018: at Oklahoma State, Kansas, at Michigan State
2019: at Wisconsin, Washington State
2020: at Northwestern, at Nebraska
2021: at Washington State

Looks like two straight-up home-and-homes (Kansas, Wash St), two one-for-twos -- OKSt (CMU's home game was this year) and Syracuse (it was at CMU last year), and the rest are money games (not sure whether MSU in '18 was part of a home-and-home since MSU played there in '12). CMU may be competitive vs most of the "P"5 opponents.

I believe Michigan State is doing 3-for-1 contracts with each of CMU, EMU, and WMU. Don't know if the MAC schools get the home game and a guarantee or just the home game.

This is great, until the "big" school backs out of the "contract". That said, if CMU can get games like this in football, couldn't we, when we want, get one of them in basketball?

The last time Nebraska played a MAC team they almost lost, and should have lost, so maybe that's why they have avoided the MAC for a long time. That was in 2007, against a Nate Davis-led Ball State team which had 610 yards of total offense. Ball State led 31-28 going into the fourth, and held the lead until 3:45 left when Nebraska took the lead at 41-40. In the waning seconds a wide open Ball State receiver dropped a TD pass that was perfectly on the mark, and which should have been an easy TD, then Ball State missed a long FG.

When I read posts from LC, like above, I wonder if he's typing off of memory or if he has to look it up. Pretty impressive if it's the latter. I can't recall too many details of my daughter's soccer game from last week, let alone from a game played almost a decade ago.

Which is it, LC?

A little of both. I do remember that particular game because, before the game, I warned people that Davis was very good, and that Ball State might win, and they scoffed at me (after the game, they said that Ball State should have won). I listened to most of the game on the radio, but had to leave at the end, and wasn't able to hear the final quarter, so I read about it later. It was in part based on that game that I made the prediction the following year that Ball State would be undefeated, and they were, up until the MACC.

I did have to refresh the details, though, so I re-read the game recap on ESPN before I posted. I also double checked on ESPN.com whether Nebraska has played another MAC team since then. I didn't think they had, but I wasn't 100% sure, and I like to check my facts before I open my mouth.

You mean at any party? ;-) Who likes to listen to a person who confines his or her cocktail conversation to mere facts.

Never been to a party yet where the conversations weren't pure BS.

I think OU Country's on to something. From what I've been reading and heard watching the talking heads during these games, there are those who think that sooner rather than later as far as OOC games go, the P5 schools will only play P5 schools. This is to allegedly assure at least a minimum strength of schedule for the teams in the play-offs.

There's that part, and there's the fact that a certain neighbor up US33 in the past did a darn good job of avoiding playing UC when they were scheduled to play them while UC was at their very best under Brian Kelly. They moved a couple games during that time to later seasons. For reasons like that, I tend to have little faith in the P5 and the game as a whole because the ones making scheduling decisions are interested in money first, and the kids and respectable competition a distant third. I watch to root for my Bobcat and Bearcat teams and be social, and I try to stay out of the 'grumpy old man' mode about it.

CMU is trading pay days for those 2 for 1 series and paying $$$ to travel to Washington State and Oklahoma State. That Oklahoma State game didn't draw anything for them this year. My thinking now is to concentrate on playing smaller P5 programs on the road within a days drive and home games against quality G5 opponents. This way all the games are winnable, close and a big non-conference team in Peden every year for the fans.

Example schedule:

2021: @Indiana, @Cincinnati, Temple, FCS
2022: @Pittsburgh, Marshall, @Temple, FCS
2023: @Kentucky, @Marshall, UConn, FCS
2023: @Maryland, Cincinnati, @UConn, FCS

Most Memorable Bobcat Events Attended
2010 97-83 win over Georgetown in NCAA 1st round
2012 45-13 victory over ULM in the Independence Bowl
2015 34-3 drubbing of Miami @ Peden front of 25,086
