Note that this year, when they recruited a player from BC, they went ahead and grayshirted him. Seymour won't arrive in Athens until January. I'm sure we'll see plenty more of Irons before his career is over. They better change up their approach, this guy needs 10-15 carries a game. He could wear people down with his speed and size. Oulette is good, but we should not waste this guy because Oulette is good. Papi White needs more plays as well, not just the screen pass. I sure hope Johnson is ok, he is a stud. Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. Coming in from Canada Irons had more to adjust to than other players. Irons is not that far back on the depth chart for his role on the team. I said that it's a small sample and I may be wrong. But consider, if we don't fumble it 91 times vs. kents in the first game last year, we don't turn to OUellette. Maybe he doesn't play at all last year. That is, those who run the team apparently didn't figure out directly last year that OUellette was a better running back than the guys we were putting on the field. Let's see how it goes. Well, not sure, but, perhaps Mr. Irons may have himself been a part of electing a five year plan for his college career. He has given himself a year head start toward a degree. He now begins his first year on the field at a listed 225 lbs. He was a listed 211. Please do not show me what this older, bigger, stronger, faster Mr. Irons does and then leap to conclusions about what he would have done a year ago. Crutch only needed four to achieve his goals, though, I wish he was still in Athens for another season. Mr. Sayles and Mr. Basham will be gone in four. Two years from now I will be wondering what they would be producing were they RS Srs. Monroe, not buying what you are selling. I have my own ideas about the value of a redshirt season well spent. It was late, but it looked good. I'm excited about our running backs. Papi looked like a playmaker. Daz sliced through their defense on the crucial drive that sealed the game. Did we even throw the ball that drive? Irons' time was too limited to draw conclusions but I cannot help but be widely optimistic based on his two carries! Ouellette had quite a few carries up the middle that didn't result in much, but he did break off a big one at a crucial moment and as always he was sure-handed. I think this is easily our best depth at RB under Solich. That is good, we are going to need guys to make plays against Marshall. Just imposing our will on the defense. And the Idaho front 7 was supposed to be the strength of the defense. Might they have been fatigued? Sure, but that's part of the game. I really don't have any problem with the way we rotated our RBs. OUellette early to pound them a little bit. Daz and Papi then with the speed to gas the D. Irons as the pile driver at the end. Also, I am having lunch with some hardcore Marshall fans today. From what I have gathered, the T'erd D may be a little suspect. I am sure they will tell me, no, it's fine, but I'll see if I can get any specifics. (Also also, weeknight games starting at 9 are the devil. Gonna need an extra cup of coffee this morning.) Irons looks like he has a NFL type body very very thick legs. However, in watching the replay, I think even I could have scored on that play given the very good blocking of the O-line. Running backs get a lot of credit for breaking tackles, etc and that is fine. In Irons's TD run...it was really pretty easy for him given the surge of the O-line and the number of opponent tacklers on the ground. There's no way I could have made that burst between McQueen and Lucas, and broken through the arm tackles. ;) Seriously, though, I agree that Daz or AJ would also have scored on that play. I do think that the most underrated ability of a good running back is the ability to time his speed burst to the blocks so that he can use them to maximum effect. That was the skill that I saw in Irons in his recruiting videos, and it is a skill he used here. When the back times his acceleration to the blocks, the plays end up looking easier than they actually are. I don't see the big deal with redshirting Irons. Either way he's going to play 4 years, and only 4. I'm happy to have all four in front of us, and I'd rather have him as a 5th year Senior than to have used up one of the years as a backup. I'm sure that will get corrected. I think Irons has a ton of potential, too. I think he should get more carries, and I think he will. But Ohio's offensive line just dominated in the fourth quarter. I don't think it would have mattered who was at running back.
