If we play only five teams from the East next season, we'll likely have this year's top three teams from the West on our schedule. I look for return games at NIU and home vs WMU, with Toledo replacing CMU from the West. We haven't had Toledo since '10, so we're due. Assuming we play the same East teams, we'd have two of the West teams at home. We'll have Kent and Fiami at home; Buffalo, BG and Akron on the road. UMass could also be a road game since we last played them at home.

Even if we play all six East teams, we'll likely have two of the top three West teams.

Pataskala (or anyone), what is the algorithm for choosing inter-division games?

It's been a while since we played Toledo and Ball State could also be up right?

I don't know how they pick inter-division games but we've played CMU two years in a row, so logic dictates that we won't have them next year. We've gone the longest without playing Toledo (we had BSU in '11 and '12), so I presume we'll get them next year. I'm also presuming the powers that be at the MAC want to schedule home-and-homes in back-to-back years. A lot of presumptions there, but they make sense (which, of course, may mean that the MAC office won't do them).

I think what they do is look at who the favorites are going into the season. They they try and take care of the top seeded teams. What they shoot for is two undefeated teams entering the MAC title game.

The posts here seem to imply that it's a black art, practiced in some smoke filled room, and not a clear formula, and that is probably correct.

I do know that they take traditional rivalries into account, and so Toledo and BG play every year, which they normally wouldn't, since they are in different divisions.

A game at Toledo "should" be on the schedule next year but who knows if it'll happen.

What makes you think I'm being negative, Monroe? Please show me anything in my previous statement that's negative.

Dude--I'm joking. You should know that anything that anything that is less than 127% fullblown positive is taken by a strong contingent as critical, as negative pessimistic.

Reality only allowed if totally positive.

Three MAC loses likely.

Kent--while OHIO gets them at home, which is an advantage, wins vs Kent have been by the skin of the teeth and loses have been sMACk downs and numerous during the Solich tenure. Of course this game is very winnable for OHIO but history shows it has not been easy.

BGSU--2014 was the year to beat them with Johnson sidelined and they were inconsistent. Look for a start to finish solid BG squad for 2015 in their second season with the system now implemented by the new coach.

Toledo--Perfect against Solich--without a line, no wager should ever be made against the streak stopping.

A loss in non-conference and 8-4 is the 2015 result.

For improvement in 2015--I would hope to see the play at safety as the biggest defensive improvement. On offense, I'd love to see Duckworth win the QB competition. That would mean that he outperformed an experienced senior during spring and summer practice. It would also mean 2016, when the talent level should be near peak in Solich's stretch (part II*), that OHIO has an experienced young QB at the helm.

*Part II because the talent several years ago got OHIO into MAC Championship games then at least two years in the abyss

You guys will be doing the universe a favor if you beat Marshall yet again in 2015. If you play us in DeKalb in 2015, I'll buy a few of you a six-pack if you beat Marshall.

Good luck in 2015.

I'm not certain but I don't think Marshall JC - er University - is on Ohio's 2015 schedule.

Yes, they are, Mike, in Athens. I believe after that there is an unexplainable three year hiatus.

I think Chuck Landon demanded it. They already have Akron in '16, Fiami & Kent in '17 and Fiami in '18. That's too much of the likes of the MAC to suit him.

Looking at our OOC schedule, Marshall looks like the key momentum game that could set us up for an exciting season. I am expecting a sound victory at Idaho to open the season.

It would be REALLY awesome if we returned home and beat Marshall in Week 2. That would set us up to be 3-0 (if we take care of business against FCS in week 3) heading into a road game at Minnesota.

Minnesota brings back a decent amount including their QB. They have had two good seasons now in a row and are ranked #25 heading into their bowl. I would love to head up there to play them at 3-0. They open their season against TCU next year then play Colorado State and Kent before they face us.

I've seen crazier things happen.

I think it has to do with the evenness of 'playing field'. Academically, and what types of student athletes they can admit vs Ohio. Some would rather not deal with that disadvantage.

If the game is at Toledo, they have been perfect since long before Solich! Anyone know when the last OHIO win at Toledo was?

Not sure, but I think it may have been back when I was in school. Or it might have been back in Ephraim Cutler's day. It's been a long, long time. And, I believe we only have one home win against them in that same long time spell. Solich almost got one several years ago at Toledo, but someone muffed a punt late in the game and set up a winning score. Anyone else remember more details about that game?

According to the media guide, Opening Day 1967, 20-14. Beat T'erd 48-14 the next week, then after a Kent forfeit, we won at Kansas 30-15 to start 4-0. Wound up 6-4. Cleve was the QB for that game, I think, as well as the coach for the last time we beat Toledo (1988, 24-14). We've lost 12 straight to them since.

In 2007, Chris Garrett fumbled a punt for the seventh turnover of the game, Toledo kicked a field goal as time expired, and Ohio lost 43-40. That turnover total also didn't include a play in which Ohio blocked a punt, but lost possession because it was ruled the Bobcats touched it beyond the line of scrimmage.

Thanks for remembering the details. I still don't understand the touch beyond the line of scrimmage call. Can anyone explain this call to me?
