I suppose technically Ohio didn't have a winning season either.

Next year, there'll be one more bowl game.

Of course, there'll be about three more teams that can be bowl eligible (not sure about when Ga South, ODU and AppSt come off transition).

And it just shows that the big guys still carry the clout. None of the bowl eligible "P"5 teams are staying home. The five who missed out are Ohio, MTSU, Temps, Texas St & UAB.

We controlled our own destiny, have no one to blame but ourselves.

When you have six gimmes (Idaho, EKU, kents, kron, beefs, redhawk) and win only six games, then you have to question your basic assumptions...

Really; you do

The team here that should be upset is Texas State. The other teams that stay home are 6-6, yet Texas State is 7-5, but S. Alabama, from their own conference, is going to a bowl at 6-6 ahead of them.

So had Oklahoma State lost to Oklahoma, which team would have been in instead?

I think it will be a great game, but I think that matchup is a no-win situation for either team. These may be the best two teams from the smaller conferences and I would have preferred for each of them to show how good they are against a team from a larger conference.

I think it would've been either MTSU or Temps, depending on the bowl. MTSU finished second in their division to one of the top three or four G5 teams in the country and they had a lot of high-scoring games, so bowls and ESPN likely would find them more entertaining. Temps had wins over Vandy and ECU, which was #23 at the time. And there would be interest from a major market. The knock on both would be poor finishes; MTSU lost 3 of its last 4 and 4 of its last six, while Temps lost 5 of its last 7. Despite winning two of the last three with the loss being close to a good team, I think we had too many blow-out losses and comparatively too little offense.

Wish I could still post photos here. This was a perfect opportunity for a Kathy Ireland pic. Oh well, go Fighting Armadillos.

Why? S. Alabama beat Texas St. I don't feel that sorry for them. Besides, we all know these secondary bowl games need to schedule a "home" team to draw more than 1,500 fans, and in this case the Camelia Bowl took a home state team.

Probably also a reason the Humanitarian Bowl took Boise for so many years and the La-Lafayette Ragin Cajuns have been to the same bowl for 4 straight years. It's actually smart.

Or San Diego St playing in their home stadium in the Poinsettia Bowl? It's not as bad as it was last year, but I still count roughly 9-10 bowl games that have a "home" team. This is something those who talk about bowl results should take into account. Generally the Sun Belt, ACC, SEC and PAC-10 have more of a home field advantage, and in some cases it's really not a neutral site.

I agree that there isn't a neutral field in many cases. Ohio though has defeated more SEC teams in my lifetime then A&M no matter where the game was played.
