The use of Drones for football coaching is the latest thing:

Al Golden at Miami has implemented them quite successfully. They have the drone hover over the QB during practice, which allows the coaches to see exactly what the QB was looking at, and allows the QB to go back and look again at what he was looking at, and see exactly if he did his read progression correctly.

Sounds like a good idea, actually.

The Hurricanes put the drone into regular use starting around late September, and it's perhaps not a coincidence that Kaaya — the team's true freshman quarterback — has been making better decisions ever since.

Since they haven't started a capital campaign with naming rights and opportunities, I'm guessing we don't.

I kid. I kid.

As the father of a 9-year-old, I can tell you that quad-copter technology is rapidly improving, falling in cost, and increasing in popularity. It won't be long before we have a nerdy GA playing with one. They're also becoming lightweight enough that there won't be injuries when the nerdy GA wrecks it into a player.

Just need to install that wi-fi and we'll be good to go.

Anything that avoids the danger of a scissor lift is a good thing.

I imagine the scissor lift will be a thing of the past once the academic center is complete.

I have seen at least one d2 school who uses them which is Ohio Dominican. I am guessing we won't be far behind.

The 110 has one, they were using it at Homecoming this year. Seeing as how it didn't crash into the wall, I'm assuming they've had it for a while.

Wouldn't a helmet-mounted GoPro do the same thing and free up a coach to not need to be operating an R/C remote?

Yes, I suppose, but the view would be exactly what the QB sees, whereas the view from the drone would be slightly enhanced, since it is higher, and would see over the linemen.

I guess it comes down to what the coaches want to see. If it is "exactly what the QB is looking at" then the helmet cam should work. If it is more of an aerial shot, then I guess drones could work.

I can't believe I just typed that last sentence.
