The uniform-of-the-week club is getting a little out of hand when I watched several minutes of the Ball State-NIU game thinking Ball State was NIU and NIU was Ball State.

Thought the exact same thing. I did like the black helmets for BSU though.

I agree. Now that everybody does it it's no longer a recruiting advantage anyway. I wish the NCAA would make everyone pick one home/away uniform and one helmet. Maybe each team gets one or two weeks of an alternate uniform but that's it.

What threw me was turning on the Ohio-WMU game and seeing the home team in white. That's rarely done anymore.

Since our collective knowledge on here never lets me down....

Does anyone know the story/history on why LSU and/or the Dallas Cowboys always wear white at home?

That was also my first thought, but a closeup of an NIU helmet allowed me to realize that my initial impression was wrong.

I don't know if this is the reason but it's the reason the Browns state when they wear white in the early part of the season for their homes games-they say it's to help the players keep cool in hot weather as opposed to wearing dark brown jerseys in the hot sun. Not sure if that's the reason LSU and the Cowboys wear white at home, especially the Cowboys, who now play in a dome.

The LSU tradition is they only wear purple jerseys for non-SEC home games which are not the home opener. Other than that, they are always white.

What ever happened to teams having a traditional uniform. And why can't NASCAR drivers just go to victory lane after they win. Tiered of all these uniforms of the week and burnouts after races.

Back in the day, wearing white at home was the norm in college and pro ball. I heard one time that it was to let the fans see the school colors of each visiting team. It might also come from the "good guys wear white" view.

The color tradition in baseball was just a little different. It developed in the olden days of baseball's youth because of the difficult of cleaning uniforms on the road. The home team would wear white because they had good access to laundry facilities, and the away team wore grey because it didn't show dirt as much and they could wait to get off the road trip and back home before sending the uniforms to the laundry. Did college ball just pick this up? Anybody know?

that's what they wore against Ball St too. We just have to hope that they are nice enough to play along with our little promo and don't chose to wear their black helmets and black pants with their white shirts, which they have every right to do.

you may recall a couple of weeks ago when Penn State sponsored a white-out game vs Ohio State. As the visiting team OSU had the right to wear white pants and white jerseys if they chose to but PSU asked them if they would kindly not do that so they, as the home team, could wear all white. OSU responded as you would expect them to, with the class and sportsmanship we've come to expect from cow town. Let's hope NIU is a little more classy.

White at home?

Back in the 60's we were told the Browns wore white at home for the fans.

If you wore your dark jersey every home game than ALL opponents look the same except for the trim. Why not let the fans get a visually appealing show each home game and see the rich colors or the Packers, Steelers, Cardinals, Red Skins and Giants?

Still sounds good to me!

Are you saying OSU is a bunch of arrogant douches with no class?

I did hear a rumor that the Bobcats Black Uni's are new this year. Heard they may be more like the current Green and White Unis.

I like that idea....
