uh, wannawinnamac.
D-line and TE are key spots. Players there make a difference.
Then, a qb with a variety arm--able to make long throws, short throws with a reasonably quick release, touch when needed, and a gun when needed. Also, strong, so not easily sacked. Reasonably mobile would be good too. Will be interested to see what Duckworth brings.
The MAC seems weak this year (kents, kron, buffalo, etc) so may be able to win a title without a notable qb this year, but that's very rarely so.
Burrow is making a big mistake. Maybe he'll shine in columbus. But leading OHIO to national prominence would give all involved special notice.
Next, need a hitter or two at db and a couple of guys at db who can one on one cover.
Then, junk the pistol. All teams can defense it. Go pro-style under center. With two running backs. OUellette is your lead. Then, try Brown, Walker, Irons, Papi. Hit 'em with thunder and lightning or thunder and thunder. Play the right guys.
I won't go into play-calling too much (Walker on jet sweep to start game again, in love with the qb draw, finally run-blitzed last night) but I've not faith that we can MACC unless player talent is very high level.
Pass routes. Can't see them much from TV or vidcast. But ours seem so banal. Wonder into a spot or go deep. Yes, those can be effective. But either our receivers aren't very good or their patterns lack spark (quick, timing routes or slants, stop and go--with more stop and go, etc, etc.).
Maybe it's because he comes in during 'junk' time. But Aaron Bradley sure seems effective for the little time that he's on the field. Play the right guys.
Maybe a load of guys will take big leaps in effectiveness next year. If not, I don't see a MACC. The above is a road map.
