I was in the front part of the student section, about the 25-yard line from the south end zone, and here are some quotes from a woman sitting near me...

Opening kickoff: "Praise God! Hallelujah!"

After Yazdani's first FG: "God bless you sweetheart! Hooray! Hallelujah!"

The several times a BG player was injured: "Lord, please comfort him. Let him heal..."

Not passing judgment on the woman, but thought this was worth sharing. She definitely turned heads (including the softball team, which was in our section)

EDIT: I should clarify, she also referred to Daz and Sprague as "sweetheart" too. Also heard someone else mention "C.J." Sprague

I was in the front row of the other side and my language was turning heads for a much different reason.

I can definitely respect praying for the other team's guys who go down with injuries. When you start thanking God for the kick off...that gets near fringe territory but I wouldn't say she's uniquely strange. Think about the other 25,000 people at the game. Full-grown adults getting all riled up, yelling at kids from the stands. In general it's hard to say that activity is super rational or down-to-earth.

We're sports fans. We're not supposed to be rational (super or otherwise) or down-to-earth.

I'm right there with you on that. Just saying we as sports fans have a bit of a glass house around us to be throwing stones about anyone getting riled up and yelling odd things.

Funny what some people call fringe these days. Refreshingly, our kicker feels no need to hide that he comes from a Christian family. I would have preferred listening to his mother thanking God for hers sons opportunity than to listen to the rude and drunk "adults" sitting right of my son and I.

Why not?

If that's her kid kicking the ball off, I take back the fringe part. It's outspoken but not really fringe. Regardless I'd be happy to sit next to this woman at a game. I didn't mean any offense.

Because the outcome of the game doesn't hinge on our actions. We're not paid, in money or otherwise, to keep our cool and execute a game plan. We can be "rabid fans"; never heard of "rabid" players or coaches.

Someone should ask her why God is letting this happen to us. Why do bad things happen to good Bobcats?

So you're saying she was the power behind the throne?
