With the Solich empire crumbling around us, its fun to watch the great BA characters employ their respective defense mechanisms to protect their egos from this traumatic event.

Denial - OCF, Bcat2

Intellectualization - LC

Projection - The Situation and the rest of the "other teams suck too" clan.

Regression - Monroe (sorry Monroe...couldn't help it!)

Acting Out - Me

Avoidance - Anyone seen Mike Coleman lately?

Feel free to add yourself (or your defense mechanism) to this group.

On behalf of the "avoidance crowd" I'll check in. You'll probably find us over on the Basketball board or playing NCAA on X-Box in mad fit of revisionist fantasy.

I hope the empire keeps crumbling to our 6th straight bowl game. Everyone goes to bowl games these days and a MAC record five straight is no big deal.

Unless your Miami, CMU, EMU, WMU, Toledo, Kent, (Temple), Akron, BG, BSU and Buffalo. Otherwise its easy to crumble your way through five straight.

In fact, with the four toughest teams on the schedule out of the way, I can see this team crumbling to a new record sixth straight. Of course everyone does that except for those listed above.

Behold the power of walk-ons!

I really hope you're right...but honestly, not sure if I see a win the rest of the way.

You may think watered down bowl appearances (not wins, just appearances) are awesome, but the goal is to win the MAC title. Nearly every team on your list above has won a title since 1970. Ohio has been as successful as Kent, Ball St and Temple. Put me in the Less-Than-Impressed camp. Runner up Beef O' Brady's Bowl trophies don't excite me at all.

I've been in the avoidance crowd too. I'll be back for basketball season. This team just doesn't have much hope right now.

In ten years at Toledo Pinkel won one conf title, 1995. In his 14th at Missouri he is still after his first. All or nothing attitudes miss out on a lot. My trip to Shreveport for the Ind Bowl was a great trip. It is Ohio we are supporting, some of us, not O$U.

I think JSF is saying that he doesn't care for football in general, and would like to see it discontinued or at least de-emphasized. He's not alone in that, but is alone in being open about that opinion.

He has stated in the past that he'd like to see the demphasis on Football and to dump that cash into BB. So yes, an alumnus of OUr school actively roots against the program. He may as well wear an OSU shirt on fall Saturday's.

I think most BA fans, even the MAC's best PBP man would have preferred us holding the 20 point first half lead vs. NIU. While VERY close; we all know they did not get it done.

However, I ll take our past 10 years vs the blind squirrels that find glory in one season only to return to the bottom for the next five plus years. Attendance and zip code fan figures show its much better in "OUR CAMP" where you consistently win more MAC games and bowl games than 90% of the rest of the league. Most of those in your self proclaimed "CAMP" have had far less exciting seasons to follow their teams. As we have seen, consistent winning equals more fans.

The Bowl picture is so watered down that only OU and NIU have managed to consistently participate. The other ten MAC teams find the occasional glory and spend the rest of their seasons watching us play on National TV.

It takes more than one Indiana transfer to build a consistent wining football program that leads the league in attendance/fans and consistently produces NFL draftees.

I will give him that, he's been honest about this ever since his 3rd senior year. ;-)

You missed one

Realist- a person that has a firm grip on reality.

All the green Kool-aid folks need not apply. You need to look at the team from an impartial standpoint .Having lived in Columbia, SC for 25 years I have seen South Carolina 0-11 and top 10. Too many people on this board can't see the reality of this being an almost unwatchable team in its current state. I root for the Bobcats but we are not a pretty picture in spite of what some people think.

Like the Bobcats the one thing that has kept South Carolina from being able to win the SEC is having the elite QB. Virtually every SEC team is putting QB's into the NFL and other than Shaw (not elite) South Carolina can't recruit one. Even KY and Vandy have had them but we can't find one.

See what difference having a good QB makes and look at the Browns receivers other than Cameron.

"Saturdays" is plural, Wayne, doesn't require the apostrophe. Must be that Newark education.

Pretty much, though I've come to full "anti-football" sentiments in recent years.

Good stuff. I am in the "other teams lose too" clan. Our run of winning seasons may be ending, but it was a good run and it doesn't mean the program is completely desolate and embarrassing.

I also am in the apathetic crowd because I'm not too into football in general, though not to JSF's extent.

Count me in this group for the most part. My personal feelings towards Ohio Football have almost always been based on the premise of "entertain me". I regret that this season's team isn't giving me much of that. Prior years since the installation of the spread, we've at least been an offensively entertaining team. This year...not nearly as much.

I'm not sure where "cautiously pessimistic" fits in, but count me in that.
