To me it's surprising they would do that in the middle of the season.

they are 3-4 with CMU, Ohio, Akron, Kent St and UMass left to play. Finishing 6-6 is not unreasonable.

It looks like the EMU loss was the excuse the were looking for to drop Quinn.

This is hilarious. My what difference do two games make. They almost got the win against BG and if they beat EMU would be sitting 5-2. If Frank ever loses to EMU give him the ax immediately.

Perhaps he had an outrageous meltdown on the bus or upon returning to Buffalo. The timing doesn't seem logical otherwise.

Interesting tidbit about Quinn: when Brian Kelly left CMU for Cincinnati in 2006, Quinn was the interim HC for the Motor City Bowl, which the Chippewas won. Then when Kelly went to Notre Dame after the 2009 regular season, Quinn was the interim HC for Cincinnati's Sugar Bowl loss to Florida

According to most of our fanbase, being almost .500 is just fine if you have had a historically terrible program. Buffalo fans should not be upset about their performance this year. Even if he and his staff was together for 10 years, going through a 3-season slump will work itself out. If not, UB fans should just accept it because they're only a basketball school.

Bingo. The strong contingent here who think that everything is perfect doesn't have much of a grasp of how football is regarded in the real world.

Try doing the last 27 games in a real football conference. Hint: wouldn't happen; would be attenuated well before that number was reached.

[context you need to consider: in our OOC sched we annually play 2-3 patsies and we play 4-5 teams in MAC which are rated #100 or higher. what does that make us?]

I apologize re hitting many of you with reality.

It's not UB anymore; it's SUNY-Buffalo, aka "New York".

But two of their wins were vs 1AA schools, so at 6-6 that would only be 4-6 vs 1A. They would have to win four out of five to be bowl eligible. He was 20-36 since taking over but only 14-36 vs 1A teams. And that's playing the likes of Fiami and UMass every year. His one really successful year -- last year -- could be attributed to one player, who has gone on to the NFL. Still, firing him now doesn't make much sense. They're not going to win the East, and even getting to a bowl is a long shot.

Incorrect. Its UB. Or "Buffalo". I don't see many people calling them "New York" anytime soon.

Edit: I realize that their formal name is SUNY-Buffalo, but no one is going to call them New York. "UB" or "Buffalo" will continue to be the commonly used name.

True, 2 games this year were vs FCS but you can't hold the other FCS games against him when everybody does it. And there's weak teams in the MAC, we all get that, not just him. I'm not saying he should keep his job, I'm just saying I don't think this move makes much since right now.

BTW, fun fact, of Quinn's 20 wins only 2 were against teams with a .500 record or better, can you name them both?

There has to be something behind the scenes because this makes no sense. He's obviously had a disappointing season but to fire him midseason is a head-scratcher.

The State University of New York thing is so insanely stupid. SUNY is a system of around 60+ schools. There is no State University of New York. Not to mention, the whole "call us New York" thing is just for athletics...the university as a whole still goes by Buffalo. He is trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.

It's not like they're called Western New York State. It's Buffalo...a major US metro area. You don't see Houston, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Louisville, etc trying to change names. Buffalo should embrace the fact that they represent a huge city. Capitalize on that rather than being something that you're not.

Well there is another state school in Buffalo, called Buffalo State. Perhaps, Buff State has tried to call themselves "Buffalo" and steal their coveted "Block B." If so, they probably feel a need to make it clear to the public that they are the Real Buffalo. :-)

We're in agreement that it doesn't make much sense. I think White had greater expectations after last season, and they have to win out just to match last year. Plus, they lost to maybe the worst team in the MAC, certainly one of the bottom two. That had to embarrass White, a guy who already puts coaches on a short chain. I mean, anyone whose bio (likely self-written) states that he's "a rising star in intercollegiate athletics" can't be easy to work for. http://www.ubbulls.com/information/directory/bios/White_D...

There has to be something else to this story. The guy went 8-5 last year and had a Top 5 NFL Draft Pick to his resume. With a couple more breaks, they most likely would have made another bowl game this year. Methinks something will come out soon to show the whole story.

I agree that there must be more to the story. Even if he was unhappy about losing to EMU, and who wouldn't be, the odd thing is, what was the urgency of doing it now, instead of after the season? Doing it now makes the rest of the season probably worse than it otherwise would be.
