A Columbus area TV station is running it's own poll -

You can only vote once per device, but can vote multiple times by using different browsers.

Clickbait with a predictable outcome given the locale.

Means nothing - after all 59,000,000 people voted for the possibility of having Sarah Palin as President.

Technically it's called "self selection into the sample." Aren't you glad you asked?

If you conducted a poll on MSNBC with this online model, you'd probably find more than 80 percent of respondents still think Obama is doing a good job. Gallup, Rasmussen, Zogby, etc., who utilize solid survey research methodology, will tell you a very different -- and more accurate -- story.

Definitely don't want to send this to Siberia, but can't let you say Rasmussen is respected or accurate.

Well now they just appear to be making up their own results. This was basically neck and neck from the outset. Last night the 110 had a 2% lead, and then in about an hour it switches to a 30% lead in favor of OSU.

After this dramatic swing you could also all of the sudden vote again...

"Entertaining" is in the eye of the beholder.

As a Drum Corps and Marching Band fan I find the 110's style to be more entertaining.

No question the OSU Band shows have become more "glitzey",but the complexity/difficulty of their drill is well below the 110.

Not to take anything from OSU's abiltiy to perform, but the "credit" for their shows goes to the computor programs that write their drill.

Also,a lot of what OSU is doing is just a repeat of Bands of America shows from the past.Including using banners and fire extinguishers as props.

Their advantage is having a lot of members to do the formations.

I love The 110 and happily forward some of their YouTubed performances to grads of Ohio and other schools.

As to your closing comment on the OSU band having "a lot of members to do the formations," it is my understanding that the OSU band marches 225. It is also my understanding that The 110 totals some 250 members, but whatever the total a large number are positioned on the sidelines during their halftime shows. I've often wondered why Suk and his staff don't design performances that would have all band members on the field. I tend to think it is possible...

Most of the "reserves" are percussion? If so, that would likely unbalance the sound.

We should stick to being critics of the football coaches and their game planning as we obviously as a group are experts in that arena!

Current/former 110 members can correct me if I'm wrong but my guess is that there's a couple of reasons why the 110 doesn't march everybody-
1. Competition breeds excellence. You have to earn a spot on the field, just like with the football team. Its also a message to everyone who has a spot- slack off and there are plenty of people who can replace you, and will replace you.
2. Style of drill. Ohio marches in block formations with groups of 4, its most noticeable on the dance numbers. You can't just add 1 or 2 people as needed, you have to add in multiples of 4, and usually several groups of 4 to balance out the formation on both sides.

A lot of universities require music education majors to participate in marching band for 1 year so the band is full of people who are taking a required coarse for credit, not because they want to be there. As a result you have a lot of turnover, a lack of student leadership, less student and alumni loyalty, and less than 110% effort given by the band members. This is not the case at Ohio. As a result we can run our marching band more like an athletic team with tryouts, competition for spots, etc. The extras on the sidelines represent just how competitive the 110 has become and how difficult it is to earn a spot on the field. The large number of alternates is a good sign.

My comment about OSU having a lot of members refered to the fact that they repeat Bands of America (High School) shows.
The best High Schools,at least out here march maybe 100 members. That restricts the formations you can do.

I do have a question for any member of the 110:
What happened to the flags ?

I think the moves to remove the flags were made to increase the instrumental block.
