This is just great. I'm a Bobcat graduate and retired from teaching last year. To fight boredom and to add a few dollars of spending money I substitute teach in a few school districts in my local area in Northern Ohio. I have taught at this one particular school on 9 different days. The first day I was there I noticed a couple kids with Bobcat shirts on and I gave them each a small Snickers bar and thanked them for being Bobcat fans. I continued to do this each day I was at that school. Today, the 9th day here I passed out 16 candy bars. It is obvious that my little treats have increased the number of Bobcat wearing students. Students wearing the gear mentioned last Saturdays game and a few even watched on ESPN 3. Soooooo,,, at the end of the day today the building principal calls me into his office. The first thing I notice is a multitude of Ohio State things scattered about the room. His Buckeye baseball hat hanging on the door and his Buckeye jacket thrown across the back of his chair came close to nauseating me. He proceeds to tell me that I'm no longer allowed to give these "rewards" as he calls them. The fact that the number of Ohio University shirts noticed on a typical day has drastically cut into the number of Ohio State shirts in the hallways really bothered him!!! I plan on stopping the candy but you can be assured that every Bobcat wearing kid will get a high five and a thank you from me. I bet I continue to see an increase in Ohio gear being worn. I also will begin doing the same thing in the other 4 districts where I substitute. GO BOBCATS!

I figured this was going to be about the cups Wendy's is using almost in sight of Peden Stadium with the OSU logo all over them.

As you high-five them I would tell them the "a certain Buckeye loving administrator has instructed me to stop handing out treats to Ohio faithful."

Note that they couldn't have worn Bobcat shirts if they didn't have Bobcat shirts. Contrary to what the Principal believed, you did not create Bobcat fans, you just caused the Bobcat fans not to be afraid to show it.

I can understand the principal not wanting students to be rewarded for wearing a certain school's shirt, but it seems that wasn't the reason he asked for it to stop being done.

The Ohio St brainwashing in the state of Ohio is insane. I can't even wrap my head around this story.

Keep fighting the good fight.

I wish you taught at my old high school! I would have had candy at least 3 times a week.

Me thinks you put undo hardship on your Mom having to wash your clothes so often; unless you wore the same one three days in a row!

Try some reverse psychology and give the Principal some of these, I bet he accepts them!

If it's any consolation my wife and I were out and about at various box stores, the mall, a high school football game etc. this past weekend and I easily saw 50+ high school aged kids wearing Bobcat gear here in the Cincinnati area. Saw almost nill for Oxford Tech.

Considering I live 3 hours from campus they were not likely current students, who I would expect to be wearing OU gear. I never saw this in the time I was a student in this area.

At one time the principal of my wife's school said that only Ohio State garb could be worn on game day Fridays. No birthday parties, etc were allowed during the school day because they disrupt the learning process but on game day Friday's tOSU fight song or Hang on Sloopy was played several times during the day over the loudspeaker system with everyone encourage to participate.

Speaking of that, do any other state schools play the State's Official Rock Song?

Nah. I had at least one for every day of the week.

I would question if the principal could legally stop you from continuing this practice. If he doesn't want candy in the school that's one issue, however if it is due to his loyalty to his school that is quite another issue. A few years ago I outfitted all of my JROTC cadets with Ohio Bobcat t-shirts and yesterday a new shipment arrived for all 120 of my cadets. It doesn't have the same impact as it would in Ohio, as most people here in Durham wear Duke or UNC garb but it still gets under my friends skin across the all who is a BG grad.

When my now high school aged son was in grade school, the school would have spirit days on Fridays. The principal would announce students were allowed to wear spirit gear for the high school or Ohio State. My son put on his Ohio shirt and went to the principal and told her his parents were graduates of Ohio, he was not an OSU fan and would be wearing his Ohio gear. The announcement for the next week was that students could wear spirit gear for the high school or their favorite college.

This is awesome.

I'm a high school teacher and this is year 9 for me. I love OHIO and bleed green and white. We always do Red vs. Blue for OSU vs. Michigan. I give extra credit to kids who wear OHIO or GREEN. I've never had a problem with it. Also, the staff is allowed to wear jeans if we wear OSU stuff. Luckily, I don't own a damn thing that has OSU on it, so I always wear my OHIO stuff. If the principal wanted to give me crap for it, I'd probably lose it.

Also, in my 9 years here, I have definitely seen an increase in OHIO enrollment compared to OSU. I like to think I have a little to do with that!

I guess I should consider myself lucky that I have never been exposed to Buckeye days in my life. Growing up (and still living) in Cincinnati, we would have Reds or Bengals days but it has never been limited to a single college.

OSU fandom is a little more pulled back here with UC, Xavier (not for football obviously), Kentucky, etc. each also having a sizable following amongst the local population.

When people ask me if I'd move back to Ohio, I reference the kind of nonsense reported in this thread.

Cincinnati is in its own college centered universe, which is quite awesome. Within a 10 min-4 hour drive you can get to the following: Xavier, UC, Tennessee, Marshall, UK, Indiana, Bowling Green, Toledo, Ohio, Ohio State, Miami, Akron, Kent, Ball State, Louisville, and Butler. Go a little further and you can get to Vandy, Michigan, Pitt and even WVU.

You're in good company. Kirk Herbstreit, former Buckeye no less, was compelled to move out of the shadow of the Horseshoe by these same idiots. Presumably, he feared the environment surrounding his school age children as well as himself.

My son's school has always (at least the past 9 years) let kids wear garb from the college of their choice. Too many Ohio grads on staff and in the faculty.
