As is normal, there isn't a betting line out on a FCS game yet. I'd think this is around 4 TDs.

The interesting over/under in my mind is how many carries for McCormick or any other running back not named Tyus or Hunt. The more there are they better Ohio probably did.

The Morgan State Bears have been playing Football since 1898. Between 1929 and 1959, Coach Hurt led them to 14 CIAA Championship Titles. This included a 54 game win streak and 11 seasons undefeated, including a year where nobody was able to score on them. From 1960 to 1973, Coach Banks "coached the Bears to a 31-game winning streak, three unbeaten regular seasons, four CIAA titles, a MEAC championship, and four bowl games. Twice during his tenure, Morgan led the nation in total defense." NFL Alumni include Leroy Kelly and Willie Lanier. Since 1974, only two coaches have had winning seasons at Morgan State; in fact, the program had 23 straight losing seasons, until Coach Hill-Eley arrived in 2002 and the program went 7 - 5 in his first year there. He would be followed by Coach Hull in 2014. Hull's "first team would also finish with a 7–5 record, would win a share of the MEAC championship and played in the NCAA Division I FCS Playoffs where they would lose to Richmond in the first round." It should be noted that "Fifty three former Morgan players have gone on to play professional football. Thirty nine players went to the NFL, eight to the CFL, three to the WFL and one each to the AAFC, the Arena Football League and the AIFA. At least one player has gone to the NFL every decade since 1950 from Morgan State." Sounds like they have had a great tradition and have been a proving ground for some future Pros.

If it's true teams show the greatest improvement from game 1 to game 2, hoping for the same with the Marching 110. Don't believe I've ever seen them so ragged as they were on Saturday. Kids wandering out of formation, very ragged lines, etc.
Okay, unsheathe the knives...

I watched half time and pregame on you tube so my viewing angles were limited.

No question there were issues with the lines and some formations.

The 110 has had since August 15 to work on pregame and this show.

No excuse for a top band not to have straight lines and have the drill down pat.

I'm a drum corps fan.

The 110 uses symmetrical drill which is not as complicated as the asymmetrical
drill most drum corps use.

Was surprised the pre game drill was as crooked as it was.

I don't think we're good enough or experienced enough at any position (other than C) to not play starters into the 4th qaurter.

Let Tyus and RHJ go for 100+ each.

Open up the offense and sling it around a little bit. Let's stretch our legs shall we?

I'd like to have majority of starters out by mid 3rd quarter. Would love to see former Cologne Crocodile Duncan Brune get some touches.

I'd like to see some of Poulas. I think he should play in a series in the second quarter, before the game is out of reach, and then again in the second half when the lead is more comfortable. The reason I want to see him in Q2 is because the entire playbook will be available, and we can see him air it out. If you wait until garbage time, all he will be doing is handing off.

I agree with this desire, as it appears Poulas has some real potential with his reported skill set and his size. I will, unfortunately, not be able to see Poulas in person as I will be at my wife's high school reunion in Bexley, which also falls on her birthday. I'm not allowed to mention the number associated with either, but I can tell you that I robbed the cradle! ;-)

The weather might be iffy for Saturday. Channel 4 now says a slight chance for rain on Friday with a better chance for Saturday. Depends on the track of the hurricane that's brewing in the Gulf. Could be windy as well.

Coach Tim's comments about the roster being on year to year contracts is right on. It's good to see a coach who is embracing the reality of the NIL situation. You simply do what you can with what you have and keep hitting that recruiting trail, while doing what you can to snag a needed transfer here and there. I like Coach. We could certainly do a lot worse.

Definitely need to hit up the portal for trombones, piccolos, and maybe a chime.

My daughter was in a h.s. band that practiced until is was almost dark outside every night and they went to a number of large band competitions. The band directors were beyond strict and demanding. Their halftime and competition show (based on the Broadway musical "Wicked" back then) won the state of TN and they finished 6th in the nation at the big one at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore where the Ravens play.

There might be some news ones marching in the 110 this year who are not from that type of high school background. They will get better. Since the state of Ohio has over 600 school districts and very little rural school consolidation, many of those tiny rural schools won't have a band like a large school from Westerville or Dublin and may not even go to competitions.

New NCAA rules starting next year, yes. And full scholarships are out the door and can be dispersed over a roster limit with a payment on to.

Jackson High School which is less than half the size of a Westerville or a Dublin has 180 band members. Johnstown which is 1/3 the size has 195 band members. And OHIO has over 800 high schools.

Injuries could be a real issue for this game despite the opponent not being a D1 team.

Our local high school plays in a mid-sized sports conference that is made up of outlying schools between Cincinnati and Dayton-mostly D2 and D3 for football (Southwestern Buckeye League). The majority of the bands we see I think have a mindset of "we're just happy to have numbers" and perform pretty basic shows/music.

I live just a few blocks from the high school and hear our band practicing well past 9 pm most weekday nights (and sometimes on Sunday) but I would think they are the exception compared to other local peer schools.

I think bands can be like any other school program where success breeds success and certain cultures exist at every school. Plenty of smaller schools with bands double and triple the roster of the football team.

Do they compete? If they compete, I get it. I was in the band at Princeton and they're still the only band in the Greater Miami Conference that does not compete, and I'm glad it was that way. We had band camp, but once school started, our practices were contained to the 50 minute band class block during the day. Any time I go to another school's game, their bands always seem like they're off in their own world. I may be in the minority here, but I always view marching band as a complementary piece to the overall football game, even when I was in one. I never viewed it as "our turn!" when it was halftime, and I don't get the sense anyone else in our band did either. We did basic drill, played songs people know and like, and played a ton of stand tunes. Basically a student section with instruments. I just can't get into those bands that use the entire second quarter to "warm up", take five minutes to set up their percussion pits, march in amoeba blobs, and play songs no one really likes.
