or RB's.

If we use only one, it's got to be someone who doesn't fumble and who's big/powerful enough to get inside yards and to block (pass protection, etc).

So, I'm liking a rotation of Brown, AJ, Irons.

The other guys should play...at wide receiver or linebacker or 2nd back in a two back set.  But we cannot fumble four and win.

Agreed, but Patterson can gain a lot of yardage and is quick plus he can catch the ball. He just needs to figure out how to hold onto the ball. Solich kept him from touching the ball the last two drives. They were moving the ball when he was in the game but almost gave it away due to his mistakes.

Patterson and A.J. and White are a formidable group.....I would add Irons but sounds like he's redshirt bound unless someone gets hurt.

Sorry, guys, but I think some of our running backs have limited ability to power through--to get through densely packed trenches or to get yards after contact.

Guys playing at about Coach's playing weight are playing against guys who are a lot, lot bigger than Coach played against.

There's a difference between the power that a running back needs and a wide receiver needs.

(Now if the running back is the halfback in a two-back set, that's different.)

Wonder what the status of Papi White is after coming out of the game with an injury. I do like his potential.

Such a disappointment man.

Speaking of Papi, why was the play where he was Suplexed not a penalty? I also believe the same thug was throwing punches after one of our fumbles, yet somehow was missed.

Rooting for Akron is like cheering on the Taliban.

Who would you have started at RB yesterday?

Who would you be using as the #2 and 3?

I disagree. The problem is that first contact is often coming before they can get up a head of steam. Let the RB take a couple steps after getting the ball, and then our running backs will power through some tackles.

Walker 1, 8, 8.0, 0, NA
OUellette 38, 201, 5.3, 1, 38
Daz 42, 148, 3.5, 3, 14
Sprague 17, 56, 3.3, 2, 8.5
Edmond 7, 17, 2.4, 1, 7

Not entirely. Looking at the play-by-play charts, Daz's three fumbles this season were 2, 4 and 7 yds downfield and Brown's fumble at Kent was 5 yds downfield. That's a matter of either not covering up in traffic or trying too hard to get more yards after contact with the second or third tackler.

I'm sorry, I think we had a misunderstanding. I wasn't saying the fumbles were caused by getting hit before they got going. I was saying that they weren't able to power through the defenders because of the early contact. If they are moving, they have a better chance of breaking a tackle. As for fumbles, I agree, those were often when they were trying for extra yards.

for a team that's supposed to be loaded with talented running backs it doesn't feel like it when the walk-on true freshman that was 5th on the depth chart is our best remaining option 4 games into the season.

My criteria is not that a guy was a scholarship player or all-state or walk on, etc. Just play the best guy(s).

I'd've started OUelette yesterday.

I was just relieved that, after Daz fumbled, Coach Solich didn't hesitate to insert Oulette.

From what little we saw of Papi White at Kent, were he still healthy, it seems likely that he would be getting several carries a game.
