Because Ohio State is too arrogant to play another team from Ohio if it's not on their home turf.

And Toledo has Missouri, an SEC team, at their place.  They can probably thank former coach Gary Pinkel for that.

Tell me how much $$$$ revenue how much such a home game would mean to OHIO and how much Tulsa pulled in and I'll give you your answer.

I've no idea, but I'm betting that Tulsa's stadium is significantly bigger than ours and the number of people who live within about 40 miles of Tulsa's stadium is much greater than the number of people who live within 40 miles of Athens (and for whom OHIO is their primary team).

It's the money money money.

Plus, if I'm not mistaken, Peden holds about 25k and columbus about 100k.

Money, money, money.

The Glass Bowl holds 27,000 and I think Tulsa's stadium was just redone and holds a little over 30,000.

Yeah me too and I don't know either.  I do think Mizzou playing at Toledo was a favor Pinkel was doing his old school but I could be wrong on that.

Chapman Stadium holds 30,000. Tulsa is a small private school. The City of Tulsa is Oklahoma's 2nd largest city and OU fans would have taken over the stadium today. Many more OU fans in Tulsa then Tulsa fans. Also, about 1.5 hour drive from Norman to Tulsa.

Don't you mean "U of O"?  The only "OU" is in Ohio.

Sorry, I was just referring to Oklahoma the way they refer to themselves. There is only one true OU, our beloved Ohio.

How many FBS schools are there in OK that are not in the Big XII?
In OH that are not in the Big X?

Toledo has had a lot of P5 conferences doing favors for them then.

When you look at schedules, to a certain extent, you're looking in the rearview mirror. Most of the games being played now were scheduled 5-10 years ago. Anytime a G5 team is able to schedule a 1:1 deal with a P5 school, it is a feat, and the AD should be proud. I think the Toledo AD from 5-12 years ago was doing a great job, I'd say, more impressive than the job done by the Ohio AD/ADs from that time period.

As for scheduling 2:1 deals, those kill the budget, and while they are not difficult to get, they hurt more than they help. I note that Schaus has been successful in getting some 1:1 games with some P5 schools on the future schedule, and I expect he will get some more, unless the whole P5/G5 dichotomy becomes extreme.

Since this was a de facto home game for the Sooners it would't surprise me if Oklahoma agreed to this game as a way to bring the team closer to the fan base in Tulsa, especially those who wouldn't/couldn't travel to Norman, couldn't get tickets etc. Similar to when teams play at a neutral site that's still in the backyard of a certain team.

Keeps the relationship with the two schools positive I think as well.

The thing that jumps out to me is that not only is it a power 5 school but it's one of the best power 5 schools. Kansas is a cool game for Ohio to have at home but in the grand scheme of things. Nobody cares about the result of that game. (outside of OU and Kansas fans obviously.) Where as Tulsa Oklahoma is concerned. If Tulsa pulled off that upset it would get national attention. If people saw online or on ESPN bottom line that it was close. They would tune in hoping to see an upset. OU Kansas however isn't the case.

One of the things we could do if/when we ever get a marquis team to come to Peden would be to charge additional for that game only, for all patrons including season ticket holders. If an upper echelon team from one of the P5 conferences agreed to come to Peden charge between $50 - $100 per ticket across the board. I believe with the right team you could still get 25,000 into Peden and gross anywhere between $1.25MM to $2.5MM. Of course, ticket holders of the more premier programs would think that watching their team for that price is a steal. Check out what a program like Ohio A&M gets for tickets for its home games. Granted, they are probably the exception and not the rule. Just food for thought.

Ironically, we had Virginia Tech (and Northwestern) scheduled for Peden and we took the cash to switch back to road games.

The program was in horrible shape financially at that time. The 2:1 deals do nothing for the cash flow, and I presume donations were low as well. There were things like putting in the initial turf grass and the Peden tower upgrades that had been financed with loans rather than donations, and the loans were due.

Unless it was a typo, Buffalo is hosting highly-ranked Baylor this week. Why in the world would Baylor go there???
