Defensive Player of the Week: Ohio LB Quentin Poling
Ohio redshirt freshman linebacker Quentin Poling (Spencerville, Ohio) helped anchor a defensive unit that limited Kentucky to just 215 yards of total offense and six points over the final three quarters of play in a 20-3 loss at Kentucky. Poling also notched a career-high 10 tackles, two sacks and two and one-half tackles for loss.

Congrats to Quentin.

I am going out on a limb here guessing UK may see more A Gap blitzes in coming weeks. They could never get the blocking right to pick it up. Poling had a great day, flew around and made tackles when he had the opportunity to. He has been a surprise so far.

Agree. That was an outstanding coaching adjustment on our part. We were getting picked apart at the second level on the first two drives and that helped a lot.

What impressed me about Poling was that after the rough start defensively for the team, he settled in nicely. I am optimistic about this young man -- great motor and his performance improved as the game went on. As L.C. often says, the key is progression as the season goes on. It will be fun to watch.

Covering him a few times when he played in high school, the thing that always impressed me was his pursuit. He was dogged about getting to the runner, even if he was trailing the play by yards.

He could be a very good one.

And good pick-up on the early adjustments in that game. It felt like Ohio was about to get boat raced and the coaches didn't wait until halftime to get it fixed, unlike a lot of games where a team only figures it out after trailing by three or four scores.
