According to a tweet from @TheAthensnews: BREAKING: City Council confirms that OU is seeking two liquor permits for Peden Stadium and the Convocation Center..

Now, who knows what they are talking about when they say sales. I do no think that they would dare just put in beer sales for the "elites" because there are so few but who knows...

There is currently beer in the Rohr Room, right? If so, it would seem like the new permits would have to go beyond sales to "elites"/OBC members, since those people are already getting it in the Convo.

We may get students to stay after halftime!

EDIT: Nope. Per Schaus comments, limited to Rohr Room and Tower Club. Boooooooooooooooo!!!!

Texted w/ an inside source. Only limited sales to donors and sponsors with a limit on how much can be consumed.

I think that students and fans alike should reject this plan. Not fair in my mind.

I've been told that "long term" plans (read: once McDavis has retired) are to use this as a way to gradually open it up to the general public. But that also likely depends on the philosophy of the next president. Either way, trust me, if it was up to athletics...they'd be serving tomorrow.

BTW...does anyone know if the local cops and SHP are still going to put the full court press on alcohol in the tailgate areas around Pedan? I stopped going after the first hassle last year and spent my pregame up town.

That is University property, they do not need approval of city council. Just like the Univerisity golf course and tailgates in Tailgrate park.

Same with parking services, they can do what they want on university property.

University can apply and issue their own. As I stated above, to apply for a permit for any event, be it catered at Baker or Nelson, to a golf outing or a sponsor tent at tail great, or a concert at Mem Aud,, those go through event services on campus and are processed from there, they never touch city council.

Yes - The University can apply - but they cannot "issue" - this is state law. City council indeed has nothing to do with this. These are event/date/location specific "F" type permits - "Non profit" organization event permits.

Maybe I misstated myself, yes the state issues, however the University handles the process. No city council has NOTHING to do with the permit applications and the University handles all matters that deal with University property.

Well, students and fans get no say in the matter unless they pony up extra cash, in which case they get beer... so they probably won't complain.

You want solid Bobcat sports? You appreciate solid Bobcat sports? Pay up a bit. Compare our prices to pro or 'bigtime' sports or concert prices. We are a helluva bargain. And it costs to run successful programs.

You don't have to like my viewpoint but the facts/finances are unfortunately difficult to deny.

I heard a lot of whining by Bobcat fans because we had to pay $25.00 for a ticket at Kent last Saturday. It seems to me that the mindset that the MAC has to be a cheap ticket , works against our programs ability to succeed.

You need to donate >$750 a year to the OBC for Rohr Room access.
$125 for a Tower Club season ticket (+ $250 OBC donation)
$215 for a gold seating basketball season ticket (+ $75 OBC donation)

I love OHIO as much as anyone, but I'm simply not yet at the point in my career where I can spend $1,000+ a year on tickets.

We are a bargain for our family season ticket packages. I just bought a four pack of season football tickets for $128 total! Here at Pitt the cheapest season tickets are $100 each.

This bears repeating over and over, so I'm happy to quote it again. I feel like I get a lot of enjoyment for not a ton of money while supporting the school and program. I agree that the taps should be opened in a careful manner for all fans, and I understand not all fans are able to donate as generously, but I don't get the hand wringing over donors (i.e. people who pay more) getting somewhat different treatment. People paying more and then getting more should not be a novel or shocking concept. It happens everywhere and in every transaction in our society. And anyone who says the Rohr Room is full of rich people has clearly never been in there. Though it requires donations that some of us are unable or unwilling to make, gaining access to the areas that serve beer at football and basketball games is a pretty modest hill to climb compared to other D1 programs.

So who wants to really derail this thread and make it yet another one about the fairness of student fees?

I WILL!!!! Student get raw deal and under these new rules should be getting beer. The amount taken out for student fees is much more than some of our ticket prices/donation levels. It's time for McDavis to let the beer flow...

But the student fee goes towards ALL GAMES for ALL SPORTS does it not? You can't equate that to ticket prices for single games or season tickets. And how do you know how much people donate? Just because the donation levels are small doesn't mean people aren't donating more than that. The student fee is also used towards other things on campus, unless I'm mistaken. That can't be your only argument as to why they should allow beer to be sold to students.

Am I the only one who remembers two drunken students walking out onto the field behind the Color Guard and one falling on his face at mid-field as the National Anthem was played? True, they had done their drinking before entering Peden, but I can't imagine the school doing anything to fuel the party school image.

Even if beer were sold throughout the stadium, which I believe will be the natural conclusion of all this, I'm not sure how this affects the students. UC, UD and X have been selling beer for a long time and I believe all three DO NOT allow alcohol in the student section. I'm guessing it would be the same for football. Plus, can students really afford $6 or $7 beers? If so, then college has changed since I attended.

Thank you. Why go pay $6-$8 for a beer at Peden when you get 2-4 beers for the same price uptown or even more than that by drinking a case at home? Just because you can watch Ohio football? Some students will laugh at that. Unless they can prove me wrong and the culture of winning has changed that dramatically, I don't see why it's such a big deal.
