You have a lot of people not from ohio that are bobcat fans, especially in the nebraska fanbase. I root for Ohio when Nebraska isnt playing, and since you recruit a lot of Nebraska talent, id like to know more about your school. If you continue to win at a high level, and contrary to what anyone says, Penn State is better then what people think, and you went on the road and beat them. Ive been reading that your defense is pretty much depleted of injuries, but your still winning. In our papers, here in Omaha, after the nebraska games and highlights, the paper usually says something along the lines of former Nebraska Head Coach Frank Solich and the Ohio bobcats played and beat (xxx) to improve there record to 6-0 ect. Basically your no longer that school in the middle of Ohio that people get confused with Ohio State. Ive done some reading about the MAC that I never thought i would prior to Solich becoming your head coach. In fact, since i travel a lot with work, I actually thought of attending a home game once. I watched you beat Penn State, as well as Pittsburg (4-5 years ago I believe). What team is considered to be the dominate team in the MAC outside of the recent resurgence of Ohio. What expectations does the local media and for that matter the fanbase have for your team. The Miami-Ohio trolling is very funny. Since I dont understand a lot about it, for example, who has won the most games, how long have you been playing, is the rivalry a heated one, ect. Edit: Especially the post with the starting QB for Miami looks like a woman i got a good laugh out of that one Last Edited: 10/25/2012 11:38:40 AM by bnmac3 Back to Top Bobcatbob General User Member Since: 12/21/2004 Location: Coolville, OH Post Count: 1,347 Status: Offline     RE: The Miami rivalry, a brief history?    Posted: 10/25/2012 11:59:35 AM  Ohio and M%$#! share a state and have been in the same athletic conference and MAC Division since the 40's or 50's.  There have been hundreds of head to head contests in football, basketball, baseball and every other sport.  We share a recruiting base, overlapping media markets and state management and funding resources.  You know, familiarity breeds contempt. Our campuses are physically similar in design and architecture and the surrounding communities are also similar in size.  Demographics have traditionally been very different, however.  M%$#! has / has had a vibrant greek atmosphere on campus, while Ohio is, well, OU.  Traditionally, our students have been more liberal, more diverse economically, politically, academically and every other way.  We are also, after all, a traditional contender for the nation's #1 party school, which doesn't stop us from being a top academic institution, too. I think it's fair to say that over the decades M%$#! has had more athletic success and more national sports exposure than Ohio but each era is different.  The current era belongs to Ohio and has for the last 10 or so years. But the real answer to why this rivalry is so intense is that M%$#! sucks and we don't want to be sucked down to their level in anything. Back to Top L.C. General User Member Since: 8/31/2005 Location: United States Post Count: 10,498 Status: Offline     RE: The Miami rivalry, a brief history?    Posted: 10/25/2012 12:07:37 PM  The defense is indeed seriously depleted, especially the secondary, where 3 corners and a Safety have been lost, and a couple other safeties have missed time, plus several other DBs playing hurt.  The young guys have been stepping up, and now have experience, so we expect a lot from them. One of the young corners who has been playing a lot is redshirt Freshman Devin Bass, from Omaha, by the way.  Other than the 4 that won't be back, I think the rest of the secondary should be full speed for Miami, so things are looking better. Eventually you reach the point where more people are coming back from injury than getting hurt, and I think Ohio has passed that point. Beside Ohio, Northern Illinois (NIU) and Toledo are getting Top 25 votes. Bowling Green, Ball State and Kent are also on track to be bowl eligible, and Western Michigan and Miami have a shot at being bowl eligible as well. At this point it appears that Ohio's final game, at Kent, will be for the MAC East championship, and the winner will face the winner of the NIU-Toledo game. Miami leads the series by 51-35-2, and if Ohio wins, it would be the first time that Ohio has won 7 in a row.  Miami is the tenth oldest public University in the US, founded 4 years after Ohio University, which is the ninth oldest, so the rivalry goes back a very long time. There is also a connection via William McGuffey (known for McGuffey Readers), who was a professor at Miami for awhile, and later, President of Ohio University.
