I'm glad this was tried today. Kudos to the OZone guys for making the signs and getting it done. I predict this will stick. The cadence was perfect and everyone joined in. It sounded fantastic.

I couldn't be at the game but watched it on ESPN 3 and the chant sounded fantastic! I also think this will stick!

I was sitting in the East (student) side when this lit off today, and it was amazing!! At first there was a fair bit of confusion, but we pretty quickly figured it out. After that, my mouth yet again ended up non-functional! I was agape at the effectiveness of the "OU/Oh-Yeah" chant and was floored when the tower side took it up.

I can only watch the games on ESPN3 (or other broadcasted ones) and I never really heard a sustained, unison chant quite like the crowd had until today. It sounded AWESOME!

There is a culture change (and those who go to the games knew this way before the unfortunate schlubs like me). But today that chant really drove it home for me. The only really memorable chants I heard before was "Tom must go" and "throw the ball".

I mentioned it in the game thread, but it sounded AWESOME on ESPN3 during the game and AWESOME on the radio at the end of the game. I loved it -- it's unique and something we can own. Good work ya'll.

Thanks for the positive feedback, guys! The O Zone has been hard at work trying out new ideas, and this one is sticking. The signs for this were made by myself and Ryan Friday night, and the chant was carried out by Ryan (tower side) and Tony and I on the student side. To be honest, I was really nervous about if this would work or not. A little awkward at first, as noted, but then it hit a perfect stride and gave me chills. Actual chills. I think this could be the start of the next generation of chants and songs. OU, Oh Yeah!

If you want, watch the replay of those two parts (2:31:55, and 1 minute to go in the fourth) on ESPN3 and listen to how loud it was. Unreal.

One last note: We want to show conservative thought with this chant. We haven't decided how much to do this chant, but look to soon decide. We really do not want to turn into Marshall, where every moderately good play is a "We are... Marshall.." Only expect it to happen a few times a game, at most. But bring your yelling voice!

Also, if you have any ideas, send me a direct message, and I'll keep track of them... somewhere...

Went a little too far west, let's go SJ Earthquakes!

The only bad thing about the chant was it was only done ONCE.

How about a few times a game?  It was awesome!

Would suggest doing this when our defense is on our field, help pump them up and create noise to make it harder on their offense to hear.  But was awesome even if it started to go on a bit too long at the end.  Got to figure out how many times in a row is the sweet spot.

Is this what you're talking about?  If so, I thought they did it twice? (This one's from the very end of the game.)

They did it twice. Great job. We needed an across-the-field cheer and this is it. Will work for hoops as well. Just need a way to signal the elongated OU/OH YEAH to bring it to an end.

I know I talk a lot of crap about the OZone sometimes, but I quietly ate my words and appreciated what happened yesterday.  I saw some of the O-Zone go to the tower side with signs to get the crowd going and it worked great.

I think it would be good if you did it at a consistent time at every home game, you soon won't need signs to get the crowd to do it.  I noticed it was used in between the third and fourth quarter, which is a great idea.  It gets the team pumped up for that last quarter, and gets the crowd involved as well.

I think at a min that right before kick-off and right before halftime are perfect.  After that I would base it on the momentum in the game and crowd.  I had chills watching on ESPN3!

Yeah, those chants were awesome.  A couple of things, this should definitely had been done in the first half.  For one, there would have been more people and for two, perhaps less people will leave at halftime if we do things like that to improve our atmosphere.

Also, it would be cool to have a an end of the 3rd quarter ritual, doing this then may be what we need.  The only problem is that it would be during a commercial break.  But as long as it was sustained until play resumed I think it would be a plus.

Regardless, lets make sure to have it right come the game against Bowling Green on ESPN2.

This is the OZone President, and I really appreciate all the positive feedback we've been getting about this. All year we've been trying to change the atmosphere and do things like this to get ALL of the crowd more involved, and not just the OZone. I think we might be onto something with this and hope to continue this new tradition. The times we were thinking about doing it would be at the end of the 1st and third quarters, though as stated those would be during commercial breaks. If anybody has any ideas for this new chant, let us know, by private messaging either myself, RPKirtland, or RyanAltenbach, as once we decide on when to do the chant, how many times to do the chant, ect, we will start to spread the word out. Also look for this and other "surprises" we have planned for basketball season. I'm glad you all enjoyed it, thanks for the support, and most of all, GO BOBCATS!

I'd vote for giving time for TV/radio to get back from break, and shift towards start of the second/start of fourth. By the way, do you know how to tell when a TV game is back from commercial when you're at the game?

I also had for real chills after the chant caught on.... I was on the tower side and could not believe our loyal older alumni were yelling along with the students.  I never really liked the Oh Yeah thing until yesterday when I was shouting it!

Mizzou has an MIZ-ZOU that i done at home FB games, very nice.  Might be able to coordinate with their cheer squad for how often/when they do theirs.

I wish I could have taken a picture of the Akron fans faces when this happened.  I was too busy feeling chills.

Yeah Tony, we could do it after they come back, or a minute before the end of the quarter and "carry" the team into the break.

I understand the pressure to try and get the cheer some air-time.

However, I think it's more important, and actually critical to sustained success, that this cheer appears a regular time. At the end of the first and third quarter during the quiet time is perfect. When you do it during the game you run the risk of interfering with our offense and you become vulnerable to momentum swings on the field that kill the cheer (ie interceptions/ opponent big plays/ opponent touchdowns).

This cheer must have a solid foundation to succeed (fitting considering the program it is for). We must make it as easy as possible for the average fan to identify when they are supposed to do this. I wouldn't even worry about delaying it as long as possible to sneak it on TV. A chant like that coming on at the end of a commercial break is a flash in the pan; but the long term affects of making it as regular as the quarters themselves has long term benefits to the Peden experience.

Thank you to the guys who started this. It's the right thing at the right time. I just hope we handle it wisely.

Yes - There is always a TV contact/official, always seems to have red on (hat, maybe shirt/jacket also), w/headset on for contact, who stands on the field during commercial breaks (about 5 yards onto the field near the end of one of the team bench areas - seems to always be the side closest to the network trucks, equipment, etc.). The game officials watch and wait for him to give the signal (a hand gesture) that the broadcast is back from commercial. He signals to them then walks off the field.

Agree. TV does not matter - not why this is done, or why it is great.

The first time, HAS to be before game start - get the juices flowing, blood moving (especially on the Tower side). second time - end of 1st Qtr? 2nd time, end of 3rd Qtr?
