Sure, it's a long shot, but go vote, do it daily, recruit friends (Facebook required).

Did it.  BG is way ahead of us now.  That's a disgrace.  We've got to be the highest ranking MAC team in this vote.  In this case, voting the Chicago way is legal -- "early and often"!

Just performed my civic duty.  And I shared it with all my Facebook friends who will now surely feel the desire to vote!

The site is currently down. Check back throughout the day and remember that you can vote every day, once per day.

BG had 800+ votes.  We had 200+, but NC State had 500,000 votes and a 200,000 vote lead on 2nd place??  Seriously?  No wonder the site has been shut down to evaluate the "integrity" of the voting...

I call shenanigans. Two straight days I've tried to log in and vote, and both times I was told I have already voted and couldn't. I thought at first it was something with the way I logged onto the page, but I tried a different way with the same result today.

Or my Facebook account has been hacked.

Can someone please tell me what we're voting for?  GameDay isn't coming to Athens, so what would we actually get if we won this vote?

A collegegameday commercial filmed at the winning school. Probably one of the quirky ones.

It did the same thing to me from my work computer. When I got home it worked from my laptop, and then worked again an hour later.

I would enjoy seeing Rufus taking down Corso putting on the Brutus mascot head or any other mascot head for that matter.

Every time I click on that link to vote, I get a message saying they are overwhelmed with fan response and not accepting votes at this time, but to check back. I've gotten that message for 2 days now.

Apparently overnight they got millions of votes for NC State and Texas A&M. They had millions more votes than schools like OSU, Texas, and Notre Dame. So ESPN reacted by locking the whole thing. Maybe they should add a captcha next time.

Edit* It was actually Florida State that overnight jumped ahead by a million votes. This caused some concern apparently.

Maybe they should stop doing online polls that are totally meaningless.  Though I voted out of school pride, this exercise, as I reflect on it, is totally stupid.

Yeah! Maybe they should stop tapping into the many passionate fan bases around the country to market their product! And maybe they shouldn't leverage social media or promotions to build buzz!

Why is this meaningless? Whatever school wins gets to host a college game day. What don't you like about this?

Because the winning school is the one who most successfully stuffs the ballot box.  It's not a real indication of the school with the most support.  In fact, they actually encourage multiple voting by each person.  It's just a total sham.

It isn't intended to be an indication of the school with the most support. It's a marketing tool.

And what, pray tell, are they actually marketing -- ESPN, Home Depot . . . it's not very good marketing.  They could reap more by spending time, effort and money in other directions.  Do you think the 100,000, or whatever it was, folks from UNC that voted for their school (well maybe 5,000 real people who voted thousands of times each) are going to be more likely to tune in ESPN and/or buy something at HD than they were before this little marketing scheme.  I seriously doubt it.  As I said, the whole thing is kind of lame brained.

It's good marketing. They've built (and continue to build) equity around basically a preview program that talks about all of that day's college football, and leads up to the noon game on that network. They've been able to turn what should be a pretty boring, informational show into destination programming for big college football fans. The popularity of College Gameday allows them to charge more for sponsors during the show, and probably makes it easier to find sponsors for the show.

For the cost of an online voting engine, and an eventual commercial shoot somewhere they're continuing to build buzz in their product, College Gameday, which they don't even have to build themselves because people like us (even more so at your perennial Top 25 top schools) post about it on message boards, twitter, and facebook just trying to win the prize, which itself is something based around the same TV show that they're marketing in the first place. It's fairly inexpensive and it's effective at building good vibes (or what I'd call equity) and buzz around their TV program. It's good marketing.

But what is the cost to them of this advertising? A stock picture of the gameday set/crew (free), a facebook page (free), a website (designed and hosted by existing staff/equipment...so what, maybe $100?) and they have to shoot a spot at the winning campus...when they're already planning on shooting spots from probably 10-15 locations. Their opportunity cost here is crazy-low.

How much is this thread costing them? And every one like it on every D1 schools (sometimes multiple) fan board?

I think your frustration is misplaced, OCF. I don't think it's bad marketing. I think you are frustrated with the feeling of being used, or duped, or played the fool. If that's your real sentiment, I agree.

OCF just hasn't complained about anything in a few days and needed to get it out of his system.

Now the Panera Catering banner ad that I keep seeing on this site with the rattles and beach balls flying out of it, that's bad marketing.
