Message Not Read  The Day After....
   Posted: 12/3/2011 10:35:59 AM
I woke up and ran to the computer this morning hoping, praying last night was just a bad dream...no a nightmare! I was wrong, it really happened. The sick feeling in my stomach is still there, not even a big bowl of grits could take it away this morning. This whole experience reminds me of my days on campus......(cue the dream sequence music)

I want to say something to the board this morning, "My name is Glenn and I'm a Bobcat-aholic!" (All together now...."HI GLENN!") I have that same sick feeling I used to have on Wednesday after a Tuesday "Drink and Drown" at Pawpurrs. Sure, there were some Tuesday nights back in the late 80s early 90s I would say and do things I would regret the next morning. Last night I texted two friends simply saying "fire Solich." I know that was wrong, I really don't feel that way.

Most importantly, just like those college days it was important to get right back up on that horse. Heck, you might feel awful Wednesday morning but Thursday night is QUAD NIGHT!!! This time, it looks like Quad Night will be in Boise and while I'm still a little hung over from last night's debacle I know when the time comes I'll be dressed up in more green than a leprechaun screaming like a nut for OUr Bobcats.

Just like enjoying a plastic cup full of Milwaukee's Best, it takes a special person to be a Bobcat fan. We've all been through a lot of heartache. But when I think of how far our program has come during the past six years it's nothing short of remarkable. When I was in school we were just happy to compete for a half. Not half a season...half a game! During my 5 falls (I know that's more than 4) on campus we won just 9 games, the same number we won this season. Now I find myself complaining about losing a conference championship and moaning about a bowl game. Some guys are never happy!

It's not easy being a Bobcat-aholic but it's a condition I hope we never find a cure for. I've developed a 7 step plan to ensure I remain a healthy Bobcat-aholic.

1. I admit that I am powerless over the excitement, joy, pride and occasional heartbreak of being a Bobcat
2. I believe that a power greater than me is also a Bobcat fan, that helps me keep my sanity.
3. I have decided to turn over all my ill conceived ideas when it comes to being a "Saturday" morning quarterback and will place my trust in Coach Solich, he has more wins than me.
4. I've taken an inventory of myself and realize I could use some more Bobcat gear.
5. I've admitted to my friends I was wrong to text "fire Solich" after the 2011 MAC Championship
6. I will work to remove the above mentioned character defects
7. I will make amends to anyone I offended or hurt during any previous rants following a Bobcat loss, specifically following the 2011 MAC Championship Game.

I'm just a 5.5 hour drive from Boise. I'll be spending the day stressing the importance of attending the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl to my wife. Thankfully my 7-year-old is already on board. He may not be a Bobcat-aholic...he simply handled last night by silently walking away when "the kick" went up. I could learn a lot from my 7-year-old.

Thank you for indulging me. Back in the day you simply had to "sleep it off," this has been far more therapeutic. Have a great weekend all and GO BOBCATS!!!!!

Hi Glenn..............I've been a bobcataholic since '69 and have been through those programs many, many times.  There is no cure, but I have learned from an old naval officer, Captain Morgan, that there is always hope.

Good post.  I think it is fantastic that you, your wife and your son will be able to attend a game near where you live.  We all get frustrated with the losses, but at the end of the day spending time with our children and creating memories of those times together is the most important aspect of our daily lives.  My daughter turns 15 in two weeks and it just seems like yesterday that she was also seven like your son.

Glenn, I was going to submit a simple post entitled "The sun arose this morning," but you have expressed the buffeteria of emotions of a cataholic oh, so much more thoroughly. But with the screen name SLC, if that's the initials of the place you live, you have to take a vacation just to get a drink ... right?

AHHH, Darn. The Captain had his way with me last night. In fact, I began removing the Coke from my beverages and using ice as my only mixer around 8min left in the 4Q. Not sure if I'm hungover or suffering from the complete meltdown that I painfully had to endure last night.
Either way, the past is the past and all we can do is hope for a better performance in OUr bowl game. OUr players haven't quit all year and I don't think they're going to start now. Let's go into this bowl mad as heck and release the fury on Utah st.!!
Glenn, good post. Glad to see you're gonna try to make the trip Boise.
BTW- Quad night is no more as The Junction is gone. It was my home away from home for many years and its sad to see it go.

HA! You're absolutely right Cat4ever. A trip to Boise is a good opportunity for me to do some "importing!"

Hi: My name is Alan.  I've been a Bobcataholic since 1981.  For the first 15 years it was easy.  I was always numb and my expectations were always low.  Then my addiction started to excite me.  I couldn't get enough.  I witnessed live victories at Maryland and Minnesota, a near victory at Kansas State.  Watched an amazing win on television over Pittsburgh.  Sat in my driveway to listen to an Illinois win on my XM radio.  The problem with this new excitement came increased pain, usually suffered in December and sometimes January.   I don't want to be cured.  I just want the pain to go away.  I'm hoping a win in Boise will do the trick.

Hi Alan, and Tom, and Dick, and Harry!  We are all on board!  The Bobcat program has been built from the ground up!  They have been to all the meetings, and our coaches and players "get it".  We have our foundation now, and we will be back banging on the door again next season.  You can count on it.  Things are good in Peden.  Fine coaches, good players, solid kids.  Will we win every game....probably not.  But I like what this program showed us this year after two sickening losses to the Buffs, and to Ball St.   They came back into the locker room the next week and went back to work........and righted the ship!    Quality wins, Quality efforts.
Will we beat Utah State in Idaho ???   I don't know, but it would be nice!  Icing on the cake,  a heck of a season.  I am more concerend with continued strong recruiting classes, continued strong off season program, and looking forward to Spring Football !
P.S.   The New Junction is opening in January  !!

My name is Eric.  I, too suffer from Lynx Rufus.
I go to meetings 6-8 times in the fall and twice that or more in the winter.  Recently (within the last 5 years) I have found out that my wife also suffers from this disease.  Our kids that are 10 and 5 have the gene also.  I hope there is never a cure.  It could be worse, though.  I know people(they are not very smart) that suffer from being a chickenhawk and treed testicle fan.  My team might lose a game but they talk of burning sensations when they urinate.  I'll take my disease any day of the week.

PS: My first game as a student was a 5-0 loss to Utah State.  I would like to kick their ass in the bowl game for some redemption, please.

The Good News:

First, the world did not end and the sun did come up today and the sun'll come up tomorrow..

Second, there are more than a billion (or two) Chinese who do not know who played this game, who won and who lost.

Third, there is always next year!

Having been a Bobcat fan since the late 60's, I'm as over this as I finally am the Tangerine Bowl and all the seasons losing the last two games of the year when they are MACC and Bowl games.

It's nothing new anymore!
