Having gone to games at Peden and the Convo for thirty years, I didn't think I could get this upset anymore. I thought that was something from my youthful past. However, besides the horrendous coaching and the team seemingly mailing it in during the second half, what most upset me was the lack of passion and focus from the coaching staff and players. Heads down or deer in the headlight pick your your euphemism; it spoke volumes. Was anyone challenging anyone on the sidelines (players or coaches?) I am a glass half full guy, the only thing I can possibly hope for after this game is that both coaches and players make a pledge to never feel this way again when looking in the mirror.

To what do you attribute this "look" the team had that you're describing?

Me parece estrano.

How TRUE!  Did you see the pics of the NIU players getting in each others face and being excited to be getting back in the game.  Football is a game filled with emotion.  Our sideline showed very little (at least on TV).  I understand coaches being cool and calm but wsith some of the dumbe things (penalties) we did..........

I'm speechless.

Every second half sideline TV shot that I saw reminded me (and any of us who have played or coached) of a scared high school JV team which looked as if they knew they were about to be exposed. Normally some kid (and usually a coach) runs up and down the sidelines trying to "man up" the team. Sadly, no one did that tonight. Believe me I am hardly the complaining type. I have sat in Peden stadium in my student days when there wasn't enough of us to tear down the goal posts after beating Northern Illinois (so as not to go winless for the season.) I sat through a lot and I don't remember ever feeling this empty, probably because in the Cleve Bryant and Tom Lichtenberg era we didn't have the talent to win. Now we do and this team (in the second half) looked more than frightened than when Brian McClure and his (1985) Top 20 ranked BG Falcons came to Athens to face a thoroughly outmatched Bobcat squad. Someone on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball, and most especially members of the coaching staff, needs to show some genuine emotion, nothing theatrical or phony but genuine and motivating.
