Just because dude fumbles because our defensive strategy is to bounce into them doesn't make it right.

Yeah, tackling has been bad at times this season.  But that generally has not been true over the past few years, for whatever that's worth.

THE WHOLE, ABSOLUTE, ALL-YOU-NEED-TO-KNOW ABOUT US IS:  DEFENSIVE LINE.

If we get a few tackles for no gain or a loss and we get quarterback pressure (qb pressure for us being a HUGE IF), no one in this league can stay with us.

Saw a bit of WMU smashing redhawk tonight.  We beat them easy if we get pressure on redhawk qb; he's lousy when pressure flushed out of the pocket.  Has the opposite of the instincts and ability of Tettleton.

Ugh...I've seen a few games in person and all those on TV.  This team does NOT tackle well.  Bentley made the point.  We run into people but we do not wrap people up.  How many times does the second tackler knock the first one off?  I will say this has not been true in the past.  Not sure what the change is all about.  Personnel or Technique?

My opinion: technique. The hits are high, and our open field pursuit is not good. Put your head in front of the ball carrier, your arms around his thighs, lift, and drive. Fundamentals!

Agreed, our tackling, seemingly like tackling throughout College (and professional) football , too often just does not seem focused on wraping up the ball carrier and ending the play. Rather the guys are trying for EA-Sports style tackles (either trying to knock the ball/stuffing out of the ball carrier or take out the legs to spectacular effect). Like I said, this is a universal feature, but it'd be nice if this was one trend we didn't follow the big boys on.

Regardless, I won't speak an ill-word tonight: what we did worked for us tonight.

Seriuosly. Looks like were getting N. Ill.? This worries me. Harnish is darn good, and we get zilch for pressure. Every team we have faced with a qb worth the cleats he stands in has taken advantage of our 2ndary. Harnish scares me more than any of them. If we dont have a man clawin' at him every play we better hope their defense is as porous as it has appeared recently (doubt it). I don't want to put our offense in a situation where they need 200 out of both Brazill and Harden to keep the game close.

With both teams getting many days to rest and plan before the title game, I think that our coaches will come up with schemes and healthy players such that we'll get some qb pressure.  And whoever we play will bring their frontline defense.

Man, last night was agonizing 'cept for when it hit 00:0 on the clock.

It's not just the MAC.  Watch any game -- college or pro (and maybe high school) -- and you rarely see defenders wrapping up.  The new fad is to leap into somebody with your shoulder pads or the side of your body and hope they fall down.  It's hitting, not tackling.  Half the time, they knock into one of their teammates who's trying to make the tackle and the runner gets another five or ten yards.  Sometimes they help the runner by moving him forward instead of backward.  I think it's one reason why concussions and spinal injuries are up -- because they wind up leading with their heads instead of the pads.  It sucks.

I've always thought tackling was alot like rebounding....technique schmeknique....if you want the bound more than the other guy you have a good chance of getting it....unless he's quicker and/or bigger....we match up pretty good with everyone size and speed wise so we're down to desire with most of them.....guys like Keller and Kristoff just aren't afraid to sell out their bodies for the tackle....I've noticed true freshman Lorenzo Fisher is the same way but at 170 pounds (cough cough) he ends up in a losing battle on the physical side.

You can all laugh at me but I cut the players some slack in the wrapping up department simply because of the unis.  "Back in my day" you could actually hold on to a piece of unifom and pull somebody down.  That's just not true anymore.  When Donte Harden was brought down by his shirt Wednesday night, it was the first time I remember seeing that in years.  Compression shirts, slick materials and, penalties frankly, mean less to grab on to.  If you can't get your arms completely around a guy  running at full speed, he's likely going to toss you off.

So, yeah, I'd like  to see some Ray Nitschke type pummeling but I think those days are gone like the single bar face mask.
