So in making decisions for travel on Dec 2, there is debate on whether we should remain in Detroit overnight.

One argument is that a victory will require proper celebration which will make driving illegal.

The opposing argument is that even in victory, the Ford Field area nightlife will not lend itself to proper celebration.

Does anybody know which is correct?

The answer is a 50-cent ride on the peoplemover to Greektown. :)

I believe there is a post game party at the Marriott, win or lose, and I have found the area around Ford Field pretty descent, actually.  Plus $109 at the Marriott is a pretty great value, especially compared to the $3,000 cab ride.

And bring your passport in case you want to head to Windsor for the Casinos or the "ballet", as we used to call it when I lived in Detroit.

And for the record, I hate tOSU, and Ricordati and Torgerson are DB's.

Both recommendations are good and accurate as far as my experience in Detroit (I also support the Windsor Ballet and found the talent to be more than stunning).

Why can't my kids be 21 (or 19 for Windsor)?  we're going up on Friday and travelling back towards Columbus to stay the night.  Sometimes I wish I had it in me to be a bad parent and just leave them in the car for several hours.  I'd love a night out at the Detroit casinos and bars after a Bobcat victory.

We are also skipping the Bobcat Bash pregame.  I just want a break from cold hamburgers.  Any ideas where everyone is going for food/drink before kickoff?

Ive always driven back right after the game.  Last time I got home about 3 AM.  This time I got a room at the Marriott.  Are there shuttles from the Marriott to the game?

^There is a monorail that runs through Downtown Detroit that can shuttle you back and forth.  I believe it is fitty cents one way.

Booked a room at the Greektown Casino for Thursday and Friday night.  1 King was $124 plus tax and 2 Queens $134 plus tax.  Parking is free.

Can't wait to hit the tables.  Hopefully the Bobcats won't be the only winners coming home Saturday!

Cheli's is a good spot as well.   Chili was excellent last time I was there.

This. After the Pizza Bowl 2 years ago, I went on the craziest blackjack hot streak ever at Caesar's in Windsor. Ended up paying for (a) my game tickets, (b) my hotel room, (c) all the food and other refreshments that weekend, (d) a trip to the ballet, and (e) apology flowers for my wife the next day. The loss sucked, but the trip was very enjoyable.

C Money,

What are the table conditions in Detroit casinos? Blackjack pay 6:5 or 3:2? Double down allowed? Surrender? Penetration? Recent changes to Vegas and Atlantic City conditions have made it not worth playing anymore. Haven't played in Detroit yet. Hoping Ohio casinos will be more favorable for the players when they open next year.

Squared,

I think you'll find mostly 3:2, DAS, Split up to 3 times.  Dealer stands on 17. One card after splitting aces.

Mins will be $10 or $15.  Mostly 6 or 8 deck with little penetration.   Obviously you'll see your best case scenarios on the $25 and up tables and if I remember right comped drinks are possible at the higher denomination tables.

This is memeory from 2 years ago but if I remember right you could find a decent table with an house edge of 0.4% or so.

To be honest, I really don't remember. Part of the insanity of that blackjack run was the Four Loco & Jaeger-fueled stupor I was in. But the cards just kept coming up. Eventually I decided to start trying to do things you definitely should not do in Blackjack. I remember at one point splitting 5s, just to see what would happen. You never split 5s! But I kept winning. Everyone at the table kept winning. It was just....crazy.

HA! That was a crazy night. It was super nice of Caesar's to sponsor our trip to (d)

MGM Grand is a great place too, if you want to drop some extra coin.  Walking distance to the stadium as well.

Hockeytown Cafe is about 1 -2 blocks down the street from Ford field just past the baseball field. Jeff McKinney, and my party had a good time there last year; it is a great place to eat before the game. it is also an easy walk from the people mover station at grand circus park station, the cost to ride the people mover is .75 cents each-way.
