Now that we are on the day of...It appears the weather is worse than any of us expected.  My weather app says 100% chance of rain every hour from here to midnight...with T-storms scattered throughout.  The radar is busy, with green covering the midwet and a nasty line of storms from CIncy to Houston tracking straight to Athens.  It's going to rain a lot tonight...But at least it is expected to still be up around 60 degrees.  Cold + Rain is the worst.

2 questions - What is the official policy on umbrellas at Peden?  And what kind of thunder/lightning show do they need to stop the game, and is there any chance persistent storms postpone the game alltogether?  OK that was 3.

The crowd is going to be awful, lowest ever for a Miami game in Peden?

I know for the Kent game there was an umbrella check area. You dropped it off they gave you a number and you picked it up after. They dropped mine in the mud, nice. I am so debating making the trip from Cincinnati now. Tough call.

This is what I'm concerned about. I believe the new rule is one flash of lightning, and the game is postponed for a minimum of 30 minutes. We've got thunderstorms forecast all evening. I'm coming to the game, but on this one I'm not going to blame anyone that wants to skip out or leave early.

I think we could play the game tomorrow (forecast is rain early, clearing up in the afternoon) if we have to, a la EMU/Howard the first week this season. Can't say I'll be able to make the trip 2 days in a row, though...an early call on this one would be most helpful.

If at say 3:00 it is that bad, why not postpone it to tomorrow? Play whenever they wanted.  A lot of kids are off school tomorrow and would be able to come to the game.  A lot of people also take off work tomorrow too.  Play it during the day (high in the 50's) and ESPN/2/U could still broadcast it.  Obviously this is a HUGE long shot, but if it would increase the crowd, and safety of players.  Why not do it?

As someone who works in athletics (not at OU) this is what I would try to do.  But if the game couldnt be on TV, I wouldnt move it.  Don't want to lose that exposure.

Could be lowest ever for ANY game at Peden. Worst I can remember was Akron in '08 when it was snowing and about 15 degrees. There were no more than 1,500 there....

Any way I can sneak into the Tower Club seats so I can at least be under the press box overhang?

I won the Race to Holzer at that game because Jughead and I were the only 2 students there, essentially... I think they gave Jughead the consolation prize just becaue it was the last game and they had to get rid of it somehow, and also for coming out in that crap.

You folks are forgetting how important it is to be on TV.  You just can't postpone the game because the weather is bad and you don't like it.  We have contractural obligations, right?

I was at that game, even wearing long-johns AND insulated ski pants/gloves it was wicked cold. I brought my brother (an Akron student at the time) to the game...I'm pretty sure he was the lone Akron fan there. At one point Akron scored and he was literally the only person in the place clapping. Had SEVERAL black-widows to warm up after that game

I think he was just suggesting that if it became more likely than not that it would be difficult to even play the game alltogether, that OU should work together with Miami and ESPN to see if there is an alternative solution.  I doubt we'll have much lightning issues causing the game to stop...Just a lot of rain.

It looks like now (1:00) the tail end of the heaviest rain is down along the Ohio River and should be lifting through Athens by 5:00.  Just lighter, spottier showers after that, unless some of the heavier stuff wraps around from the west.

Anyone know the likelyhood of a delay due to the thunderstorms? I am kinda worried about that.

I hate to say it but I have become a dry weather fan--cold doesn't bother me though.

I am missing the final marching performance of my son in the 110 on the cherished field that I frolicked on in days of yore.  Three hour drive down and 3 back with the conditions and I'm just not up for it--will love watching the game on the tube but will get pissed at the half drivil when the network could really showcase the Gem of the MAC.

Cheer loud you attendees.

What a collegiate experience we have in Athens.  Duval said he liked the smell of Napalm in the morning.  Well I love seeing the 110 march down the street with the drum rolls and the trombones leading the way with their swinging bones just when they break into funk; followed by the pregame and tunnel entrence of the 3 time MAC East champs and the cannon blast when a score is punched across and the band plays and the players bump chests and we high five or fist crack at the glorius game of football in Peden stadium.

It's stopped raining here and the heaviest stuff has moved northeast of Lancaster & Logan.  There's another blob of moderate rain coming up on Athens, but after that it should be pretty scattered.  Should be ok for tonight.

Hey OCF, has there ever been a thought of getting the ROTC to dress up in Civil War garb for the games for the cannon firings?  After seeing the Rutgers militia up close and personal, it would be a pretty cool homage to the area's Civil War heritage and start a pretty nice tradition, don't you think?

I like the idea.  RU, of course, was Revolutionary garb, but for us Civil War would be more appropriate since, according to President Howard, we contributed more officers to the Union cause than any other college in the state.  I don't know how to get it started, though.   Ideas?  It would be most appropriate to start such a tradition when we get Georgia Tech in the house, since about three out of every five boys from Southeastern Ohio of military age were on the March to the Sea with Uncle Billy..

^I'll run it by Schaus and see what he thinks, and if he sees some merit I'll reach out to ROTC to see if we can't start some momentum.

Most of the game, it was barely a mist coming down. It even stopped for periods of time. It did pick up a time or two, but only for about five minutes. I think those in attendance got lucky. The rain was not bad at all and it wasn't cold. It really was above-average weather for late November.

Thanks, D.A.   I might add there are several reenactment groups in the area that might be interested in working with ROTC on this.  Please keep me informed.
