So, we had our 9 year old nephew, at the game last night. Even in a tOSU dominated area, his all time favorite player is Brazil. At the end of the game, he made his way down to the railing to try to get the attention of Rufus. He then saw Brazil running by and shouted to him. LaVon waved, then turned around and gave him one of the gloves off his hand (the same glove he broke the all time recieving record with)! At that point, our nephew made a loud statement that this was the greatest moment of his life. Then, when making our way out of the stadium, LaVon was standing by the gate taking pictures and signing autographs for any and all kids present (the glove is now signed)!
This was LaVon's last home game, he could have been off celebrating with the team (or doing anything else) and he chose to take the time mingle with the kids! What a great guy!!!

As soon as he's done with handshakes/Alma Mater Ohio, LaVon always, always, goes to the northwest corner of the end zone. I'm pretty sure he's greeting family over there. He then runs along the visiting bench area thanking/shouting to any other fans who catch his attention. It doesn't surprise me that he would do a kind thing for your nephew and other kids. This is how memories are made. This is how young Bobcat fans are made. Thanks for sharing your story, Y City.

Y-City Cousin,

As you know I witnessed the glove signing.   It was clear that LaVon really enjoys being around young people.  He ought to be majoring in elementary education!  It's a field that has a shortage of men in it, even now.  After he signed items for a few more folks, I managed to tap him on the shoulder and shake his hand and congratulate him on a great game.  I told him I'd be in Detroit.  He seemed genuinely  pleased and said, "Thank you so much, Sir."  It was a brief but very uplighting encounter.  This is exactly the type of student athlete that we need to be recruiting.  Go OHIO!

LaVon (and many of the other players) give away their gloves and wristbands and anything else to all the kids almost every game. You can tell they appreciate the fans.

I too applaud LAVON BRAZIL for being a great player and a great person.  He displays great skills, effort,  leadership and guts on the field as well as great attributes off the field.  Sure glad he came to OHIO.   Glad to read these posts about Lavon.  He seems to be genuinely appreciative of the fans.  He deserves all of the praise he can get.

While I agree completely, there is a true irony here. The bobcatattack archives, had they not been erased, would reveal some interesting posts about LaVon, at the time he was first announced, not from OCF, but from others. As I have a long memory, I will remind some that LaVon did not play football in high school at all until his Senior year. Why? The reason was because he had a troubled youth, and was not eligible until then. He suddenly realized that he was wasting his life, and that academics were important, and turned his life around. He became eligible, became a star, and earned a scholarship offer from Ohio. Some here argued that taking a chance on a guy with that background was unwise. I argued the reverse - that he had learned his lesson, and that while he might face some challenges along the way, I thought he would turn out to be a role model.

Congratulations to LaVon, not only for his outstanding career here, and for the future I expect him to have, but especially for his academic successes, and for the kinds of things that are posted here on this thread about him.
