If OHIO wins the upcoming MAC Championship game AND goes on to win the first bowl game in the school's history, would it be a bigger story than beating Georgetown in the NCAA's (or, fill-in-the-blank for the best basketball/football moments).

If they did win both, my guess is that at 11-3 (most wins ever for a Bobcat squad) they would end up being ranked in the top 25 for the first time in the modern era. Are we about to witness THE defining overall sporting moment in the entire history of Ohio University?

It's possible!

I would say that winning the next two games would help the football team elevate to that next level more than beating Georgetown helped the basketball team. However, the University received more national attention with the Georgetown victory than they would by winning the next two football teams.

This football team needs to get the monkey off their back 1) MAC Championship 2) Bowl victory!!

I totally agree. The basketball win gave OU a ton of press, more then win the FB team wins out this year will. That is due to the focus the whole country has on March madness and OU became the biggest "bracket buster" that year.

When the Football team wins the next two, it put this team in a class of their own in Bobcat history, but will be nothing more then a blip on the national football radar.

So what do we count as bigger, making the national sports news, or winning the MAC championship and our first bowl? I chose the later.

It is very hard for any football win or season to eclipse the kind of attention a program receives from something like the Georgetown win.  Truthfully the only way for football to do this would be with an upset win over a highly ranked BCS team or with an undefeated run kind of like Ball State had a few years back.  Now I would say winning the MACC and the bowl game by this football team would put their accomplishment in my eyes higher than the basketball team's.  It just won't garner the attention from students and the nation like the Georgetown win did.

Its kind of sad to think how if injuries and luck had gone our way just a bit more we would have beaten Buffalo and Ball State and thus be 11-1 with a lone loss to a good Rutgers team.  As a fan you can't complain because this could still be the best season ever for OHIO football.  Its just one of those "what if" thoughts that just really racks you.

Georgetown win would stilll be bigger...Pretty sure a Little Caesars Pizza Bowl victory won't make the cover of the USA Today.  But Ohio really needs this to start building the program up to what we all dream it can be.

Although the G'town win drew attention, I think MACC/bowl wins would be comparable to the pre-season NIT win in '94: wins at O$U, at #14 UVA, and at the Garden vs. GW & NMSU.  G'town was a one-shot deal; MACC/bowl wins (coupled with the recent exposure on ESPN) would have a more prolonged effect.  After the NIT win, the Cats were nationally ranked and had a big red bullseye on their backs for every opponent the rest of the season.

We will get by.
We will get by.
We will get by.
We will survive.

You guys are comparing media headlines but if you are looking at the psychology of the program I would think beating Georgetown in Providence for basketball and beating Illinois in the Pizza Bowl in football would both be landmarks of about equal value. We didn't go to the NCAA's last year and next year we might not win a bowl bowl game but wins like that under a current coaching regime have a lasting impact on fans for years beyond.

Most Memorable Bobcat Events Attended
2010 97-83 win over Georgetown in NCAA 1st round
2012 45-13 victory over ULM in the Independence Bowl
2015 34-3 drubbing of Miami @ Peden front of 25,086
