I just looked at the offensive line grades against CMU. Wow, did they dominate. Some really impressive scores, like Eric Herman with a 1.89 grade, plus 17 pancakes and 2 decleaters. Lechner on the other side had a 1.86 grade, with 14 pancakes. Flading "only" had 6 pancakes to go with his 3 decleaters, and an amazing 1.97 grade. Even the subs posted amazing numbers. How about McGrath with a 1.89 grade, plus 6 pancakes and a decleater in only 16 snaps? I can't mention everyone, but they all played well, and if they keep up those kinds of numbers, BG's defense will be in for a long night.

I'm wondering who we will have coming back next year on the O-line.  I know a number of our current guys are seniors.  Could the Bobcats be in a similar situation next year with regard to the O-line as they are this year with the D-line?

Next year the line should be good, too.
Left Tackle - lose Strum, but Prior returns
Left Guard - Lechner, Carlotta, and Smith all return
Center - Allen and Bales return
Right Guard - Herman and Johnson return
Right Tackle - lose Flading, but McGrath returns

Add to those guys the others like Dietz, Fain, Crane, Stump, Curtis, Lucas, McQueen, Everhart and Welter, and I think the line will be in good shape for quite awhile.

Now that's a pipeline.

Ah, somebody finally answered my question a bit about our O-line prospects for next year!  If the rest of OUr units hold strong and the D-line and 'backers come like we all hope...gonna be fun.

I just watched him a play or three against CMU, but I'm thinking Skyler Allen makes one of the All-MAC teams??!

I think there's a good chance of this. In my personal observations, he's one of the most improved players on the line.

I am very excited at our future depth for the OL.  I do believe, but I am biased, that we need to try to get one OL a year out of Nebraska if the talent is there to sustain that pipeline.  Lechner is doing very well and has started I believe 21 games to date as a sophomore and Dietz will break through by next year.

As a run heavy state, Nebraska produces a lot of hogs of front who can flat out road-grade...

Blob

P.S.  This year I would love to see Ohio offer Mike Shoff and/or James Anderson of Omaha Burke.  Both would be huge pick ups...

Replacing Strum and Flading won't be easy but I agree Prior and McGrath have always been solid when they play. It used to drive me crazy when the coaches would mix and match o-lines and play key series with back up linemen but it has only made the unit better and when the two tackles are gone they will be replaced by two guys who have played a ton.

In my eyes Lucas Powell counts for one from that area.  He might be the man to take over center as only a RS So.  I  am excited about how the OL looks for the next several years.  When you have depth you can play the fast pace style that keeps a defense on it's heals.  This year,s OL had lots of starting experience and next year will have a lot too.  The next might not have as much, but, could be even better. This team keeps getting bigger, stronger and faster.

Agreed! Powell is a stud.

As Doc said, I love when we have OL who can re-set the line of scrimmage 3-5 yards down field....Anderson will help with that in the future, provided who offer and garnish his pledge.
