One minute in and it's 7-7 between NIU and BG.

This is an important game. Remember, BG still controls its own destiny, but they have to win them all to win the MAC East. A loss to NIU takes them out of it, and their game with Ohio becomes meaningless.

Chandler Harnish is a machine. Ohio got what it needed tonight. Now, need a Temple win tomorrow night.

This is what worries me.  We seem not to do too well in "meaningless games."   We seem to be at our best when something is really on the line -- like Temple and Marshall this year.  Temple, of course, for the MAC East implications and Marshall for the Battle for the Bell.

While it doesn't matter in the East, the Toledo-Western Michigan game has been a good one. What is anyone's preference for opponent in the MAC title game should Ohio get there?

I want Toledo.  I don't think we've beaten them since I was in school, so we are due!

Ted, am I doing something wrong?  The scoreboard widget never seems to update properly.  For instance, the UT-WMU game is in the 4th quarter but the scoreboard still has a 2nd quarter score.  When I refresh the page the scoreboard doesn't update.  Anyone else have this problem?

Or like Kent St. last year? I want Ohio to win out. But I want them to have as many outs as possible if they don't.

Well, you would have to mention that game!

Bowling Green needs to win its final 2 games and have Ohio & Miami go 1-2 down the stretch with Temple going 1 and 1. Ohio beats Central but loses to Miami and BG. Miami beats Ohio but loses to Temple and WMU. Temple beats Miami but loses to Kent State. Those are pretty improbable odds for BG if you ask me.

Who do we want to root for in the Miami-Temple matchup? Miami beats Temple and Ohio beats CMU then Temple is eliminated from the title race. Temple beats Miami then Temple is still very much in this race and can sneak in the back door of the MAC race with Ohio finishing 1-2. If Ohio finishes 2-1 but loses to Miami in this case I think Ohio wins the tie breaker over Miami/Temple by virtue of a win against BG. The only way Miami can be eliminated before the final game is if they lose to both Temple and WMU so I think we pull for a Temple win here figuring Ohio will probably be able to take care of Central and BG. It would be nice to see Miami get derailed in Philly with the way they've been playing of late.

I thought WMU had a BIG screw-up down 63-56 and about 2 and some minutes left. They declined a holding penalty and let Tole_o have a short field goal attempt to ice the game. Sure enough, WMU easily would march down the field on Tole_o and make it 66-63, but why not move the Rockets back 10 yards and hope your D could do something? Just giving them an 10-point lead with that much time left is not acceptable, IMHO.

For both of these schools they may be out of the divisional race but if the get to bowl games look out because they'll be a tough matchup against a Sun Belt school. WMU losing tonight bodes well for us since they have Miami next week. Let them think like Toledo did last week; it takes more than 63 to win a football game. Better get to 66 or 70 next week to seal the deal against Miami. WMU still has a bowl on the line with Miami and Akron remaining and they are plenty capable of thrashing Miami who only averages 22.2 ppg.

These last two games have to have hurt Toledo's defensive stats...

I had a sense that FATMAN and NIU would be awfully tought opponents should we make the title game.  Apparently not so for FATMAN.  That game with Western was unwatchable; there's some requirement for a minimal amount of defense, no?

Does this mean the WMU leading tackler will be this week's MAC Defensive Player of the Week?

Northern Illinois hosts Ball State and Eastern Michigan to close out the season. You can't really be certain of any result in the MAC this year, but NIU should win those and close out the division title. Of course, I'm not too sure the Huskies' defense is a whole lot better than the Toledo's, although it was good after a slow start against BG last night.

After watching Ohio play poorly v. Buffalo, Kent and Ball St., I was left wondering if Ohio got too geeked up for Marshall (under the lights, new black unis, rival game). Then again v. Temple (new MAC East rival, new black helmets, national ESPN audience) Ohio came out all psyched up for a nice performance.

There's something to be said for keeping an even keel and avoiding the emotional highs and lows of a season. Here's hoping for no letdown v. CMU.

I think a lot had to do with the injuries that started in the Marshall and Buffalo game - we've got some guys back and we've got some guys who now have a few games experience under their belt.

It's my personal opinion that We were a much better team against Temple than against Marshall. The Marshall game to me looked like they blew themselves up, the ball bounced our way and it made us look unbeatable. The Temple game I saw an offense that was really hard to stop and a defense that did what they had to - to win. Of the Marshall turnovers - im not sure how many we could credit ourselves for creating they appeared gifts to me.

We are lucky Toledo won. If we happen to finish 7-5 and Toledo finishes 7-5 a bowl game definitely picks Toledo over us. If we finish 7-5 along with Western at least we have a shot, although Western would probably still get picked over us.

Agree.  What we have seen in Toledo's last two games is a harbinger of the flag football college football is destined to become with the increasing restrictions on blocking and tackling.  To me - and perhaps I am in a minority - those two games were boring.  Had there been at least a FEW defensive stops, there would have been more drama.

I couldn't possibly call those games boring, but it gets ... frustrating!... to watch such a prolonged display of NO defense whatsoever by either team. You'd think one team would get lucky and come up with a stop.

I was just noticing that Ball State's final two games are against Toledo and Northern Illinois, so technically, the Cardinals still control their own destiny if they could pull out those wins. They've also got 10 days off until playing at NIU Tuesday and then 10 days after that before hosting Toledo. And Eastern Michigan could get in the West mix with just two losses so far. They host Buffalo on Saturday and play at Kent State the next week before hosting NIU.

Obviously, Toledo and Northern Illinois are the teams expected to win the division and still are in the best position (with NIU obviously the overall favorite), but it could be interesting down the stretch.
