Now that we are bowl eligible at 6 wins, what does the MAC bowl picture look like? i know we have the 3 tie-ins, but with Navy already at 6 losses and them locked to the Military Bowl In DC, does that bowl game become an option for a MAC team. Now trying to jinx anything, just thought people on this board might be in the know about what OU's ideal bowl game is.

I'd love to go back to Mobile because it was awesome. I'd go to Detroit because it's close. Boise just can't happen. it's the worst combination of really really far, really really expensive, and a really really crappy place to be in the Winter.

DC might be a nice option location wise.

I tapped into the Owlpoop site the other day and they were getting lathered up over Temps going to DC in place of Navy or Army to face an ACC team (but they could get a CUSA team).  I think Pizza will want Toledo (if they can get to 7 wins; 6 might not be enough) because they can bring fans; remember, the NIU-Fiami MACC last year drew only 10,000.  If NIU or the East champ wins the MACC, they will likely go to Mobile with the loser getting the Tater Bowl.

These are the MAC's secondary bowl agreements, beyond the three guaranteed:

The secondary agreement with the Papajohns.com Bowl will come into play as a backup to the SEC No. 8/9 and Big East No. 5/6 selections. The MAC will be the second backup in the Dallas Football Classic in 2010 and 2012.

The Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl/Poinsettia Bowl/New Mexico Bowl secondary agreement for 2011 and 2013 is as follows: the MAC will back-up Army in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl (2011) and Poinsettia Bowl (2013) with the understanding that if Army is not bowl eligible, the WAC will give up its spot in the New Mexico Bowl and provide a team to the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl and Poinsettia Bowl. The MAC will then provide a team to the New Mexico Bowl against a team from the Mountain West.

Assuming the SEC gets two BCS teams, which almost always is the case, the SEC has 10 bowl slots. Ole Miss already is eliminated from bowl contention. However, every other team still has a legit shot of becoming bowl eligible. There are three 4-5 teams and two 5-4 teams. The Big East side of that is hard to figure. There are three bowl-elible teams, two 5-4 teams, one 4-4 team and two 4-5 teams for six spots. Altogether, I'd say the MAC has a fair chance of having the opportunity to send a MAC team to Birmingham.

As for the New Mexico Bowl, with Army being 3-6 and still having to play Temple, Rutgers and Navy, it seems pretty likely the WAC will have to fill the Fight Hunger Bowl and the MAC will be sending a team to the New Mexico Bowl.

This is better than last year because the MAC really only had three guaranteed bowl spots and Ohio was fortunate to get a bowl spot only because the MAC was the only league left with bowl-eligible teams. This year, the league is locked in to what seems like four definite and maybe five bowls.

I'm not really sure how Temple fans figure they have a shot at the Military bowl unless they think that the combination of Navy, the ACC (looks pretty good for 9 teams) and Conference USA (somewhat of a question mark) won't be able to fill the bowl slot. In that case, it goes to any at-larger available and there could be maybe a Big East team, Big 12 or maybe even Mountain West team that the bowl would probably prefer).

I think there is still hope for a MAC team in DC. Conference USA has 7 bowl tie-ins, that means that all 3 of the teams that are currently 4-5 have to go 6-6 to fill all of their slots. Also Navy maybe not be eligible sitting at 6-6. I think Ohio can make a compelling argument we will travel well to DC, cheap flights, driveable, active DC alumni group.

Good chance there will be a MAC team other than Eastern that finishes 7-5 and wont make a bowl game. I think 8-4 is safe for postseason at this point.

I saw this over at EDSBS. Currently, there are 44 bowl eligible teams (including OHIO), and 20 that cannot become eligible. Of the remaining 56, 26 have winning records and 1 is at .500.

44+26+1 = 71 teams for 70 bowl slots.

And this math shows why so many of these bowls are an absolute joke.   Here's hoping that only 65 teams qualify so that the talking heads can come up with a stupid reason for allowing 6 non-qualifiers in.

CUSA actually has four 4-5 teams (Terd, ECU, UCF and UTEP) and a 3-6 team (Rice).  But the 4-5 teams all play one another and/or have tough games along the way.  Terd is at Tulsa (6-3), at Memphis and has ECU at home; ECU is also at UTEP and home to UCF; UCF also is at Southern Miss (8-1) and home to UTEP; UTEP also has Tulsa at home.  They could all basically eliminate each other, under the right circumstances.  Rice is at Northwestern, home to Tulane and at Southern Methodist.  Doesn't look promising for them either.

Even the WAC -- the only conference without any bowl-eligible teams -- may have trouble filling its three bowl spots.  It has three 5-win teams, one 3-5 team and three 3-6 teams.  It likely won't get more than three eligible teams.  That could mean some nice slots for even 7-win MAC teams.
