Huge win tonight vs. Temple for the program. The Bobcats are bowl eligible and all but assured a bowl with this win.

Bottom line, beating Pitt that first time in Peden made me emotional like I have never been and on that day most of my family decided to wear some green and white from now on.

I'll go with winning at NIU in '06. That kinda proved to me that good times were ahead.

For me its easy to vote for the win vs Pitt even if Pitt turned out to be a let down that year.

Not only was it a "coming out" party for the solich led bobcats but it was also THE year supposedly that Dave wannstedt was supposed to show he was going to be the next best thing in college football.

I still think the win at Champaign was the best win. I'm not sure it was the biggest, but going on the road and beating a BCS team always means more to me than a home win.

It's why the Tennesee and Ohio State near misses stung so badly. Being at both games, there was a real feeling in both Neyland and the Horseshoe that Ohio was going to win those games. Those were signature wins that Ohio let slip away.

I thought about adding the Illinois win but it was another ho-hum MAC win over a lower tier Big Ten foe which happens 2-3 times a year in the MAC. The NIU wins were notable surprises in 06' and 09'.

+1

I agree that the Pitt win started it all, but beating Illinois on the road the way we did was huge. I would argue that Illinois has had more success than Pitt in the past 10-15 years, so it means more that way to me too. See us battle against OSU and Tennessee gave us tons of respect.

We beat Illinois in OT. They weren't very impressive that year and haven't been since. Its not like we beat Wisconsin or Nebraska here now that is a different story.

All those are good wins. That makes you realize that this program has had plenty of good days, to go with the bad ones that we remember, too, like bowl losses.

The game was won in regulation. (www.ohiobobcats.com/sports/m-footbl/recaps/101406aab.html) It catapulted Ohio to a nine-win season and that Illinois team, although it went 2-10, took No. 1 Ohio State and No. 18 Wisconsin to the wire.

None of the wins in the poll are any more impressive than Illinois. All of those were in Peden. And Pitt was hot garbage in 2005. Tyler Palko basically put the game on a platter.

Miami has been a source of suck since 2004.

Bowling Green? Really?

I agree those NIU wins were really impressive. And important. But in terms of "biggest", it has to be a BCS team to have the impact.

All that said, if Ohio wins a MAC title game, that will be well above all those other wins.

Illinois went the Rose Bowl a couple of seasons after that victory. And we beat Pitt in OT, what point are you trying to make? The circumstances were much greater to overcome against the Illini IMO.

That 2005 Pitt team was garbage.

Pitt was preseason #17. Pitt has a reputation of a mid to upper tier BCS team. Illinois has the reputation of a lower tier BCS club. That year Illinois made the Rose Bowl they were one of the most marginal BCS participants ever with something like a #18 ranking. Pitt has had probably 5 years at that level over the past 10 seasons to 1 for Illinois. I can't believe i have to explain this.

Ohio at Maryland in '95 should be on this list. Beat Maryland at home in their new coach's debut game and threw 1 pass the entire game...

The worst bowl loss was against Marshall. Ohio walked into that game 9-4 against a 6-6 Marshall squad. It was supposed to be a total layup for Ohio and we layed an egg the first half. So disappointing. I could understand the loss to So Miss as they had a lot of tradition. By the time we played Troy a loss was almost expected. The Marshall loss was really deflating as the matchup couldn't have been any easier.

And who can forget the home win over WVU in 1892!  Or Don Peden's two 6-0 wins over Illinois circa 1930, or the 1960 home victory over SIU that had an SRO crowd that stayed for the whole game, or the Grobe era victory over U of M a few weeks before the Gophers beat O$U in the 'Shoe.  In short, Uncle Wes, your list was way too short.

The 5  wins in a row over Miami earns some recognition
The 3 wins in a row over Temple were big.

In his defense, the thread title is Biggest Bobcat Win Ever Under Solich.    I instantly thought of the Pitt game as the beginning of the Solich Era, and that sticks out in my mind.  Although as a non conference game,  in terms of conference games, the 2006 NIU game sticks out, I believe that was Wolfe's senior season correct?  Getting off to the 2-0 start was BIG.

Frank wins his 6th in a row against Miami and that will tie Don Peden's best Miami streak 6 wins. That's pretty significant if you ask me to win 6 in a row against Miami.

My bad, by the time I got down to the comment on the Maryland game, I had lost my focus. I had forgotten that Uncle Wes had said "under Solich."  I too voted for the Pitt game.  My comments would have been more properly addressed to the question of the biggest alt-time Bobcat win.  That was how the thread had drifted and I got caught with my mind in a non-focused mode.   It's late and I'm delirious with the win over Temps. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!

'95, '97 whatever. Big win! Still own Maryland all-time - FB, BB undefeated vs. MD. Own G'town. Undefeated vs. Navy, .667 vs GWU, .500 vs. Mason and American. Need to play DC area teams more in Bball and FB!

Or better yet move to a DC based conference.
