The not so nice thought just occurred to me that this might be the ideal time to demand Temple come in for all sports or we kick 'em out.  It looks like no one wants them and they might have to drop football if they didn't meet our demands.  Grounds for dismissal would include MH55.  I believe his mere existence would abrogate any contract language Temple might try to use to say we didn't have a right to rewrite the rules in the middle of the game.  Just one man's ramblings . . .

I agree. What exactly does Temple offer the Mid American Conference without their basketball program? The idea that they are in a big television market therefore bringing in more MAC viewers is a myth. Temple Football is not a major player in the overall scheme of Philadelphia sports. However, Temple Basketball is a perennial top 40 program nationwide and would be a great addition to MAC Basketball. Imagine a MAC east of Ohio, Miami, Kent, Akron and Temple in Basketball. That would be the makings of a very solid mid major conference. Temple Basketball has cachet, but Temple football is just another MAC jobber in my opinion. Send them an ultimatum of bringing basketball into the fold or look elsewhere for football (Sun Belt, independent, FCS)

This is how that will go.

MAC: So Temple either you join us full time or you're out of here.

Temple: See you later.

If thats the case, then fine. Like I said, what exactly does the MAC get out of Temple football without their other sports? If they walk, the MAC will be no worse off. If they join in all sports, then the conference benefits overall

The MAC is probably better off having Temple as football only.

If Temple were to enjoy full membership, the travel costs to Philadelphia for non-revenue sports would impact program budgets. The effect would probably cause  programs to offset the Temple trip by cutting a non-conference road trip to a desirable opponent that enhances recruiting, retention, and strength of schedule.

The arrangement with Temple to play a number of non-conference men's basketball games has served to enhance RPI. That would be lost.

And Temple has no incentive to agree to it. They'd do no worse as a football independent hoping to scrounge the same unfilled bowl slots that the MAC has gone after these past several years.

Wrong. Again.

WVU goes to the Big 12 w/o Louisville. Big East keeps its AQ status. Temple joins.

Bye Bye "Marginal Athletic Conference"

You guys just don't get it.

Although I have not looked at the numbers, it would not surprise me that WVU leaving and taking its BCS points wouldn't drop the Big East out of AQ status.  Of the schools that are left, who else has consistently put up good BCS numbers.

I would bet that the other BCS conferences will want another school of theirs added and the Big East dropped as soon as possible.  The Big East is going to have to find someone (Boise St.) who has put up major BCS points to join in order to keep their AQ status.

I think we get what's going on.

But there's no escape hatch from the MAC. That takes millions of dollars.

Our basketball program got their best non-conference Home game in years thanks to Temple's agreement with the MAC.
