O$U is wearing throwback jerseys tonight to honor their 1961 team.  Oddly enough, they look a lot like some of the new unies other teams have used recently:

Not sure if they're unies of the past, future or not at all.

Wonder how many autographs were sold to pay for them.

Was on the '61 team, the uniforms looked nothing like they had on last night.  The padded helmet was a 4" red stripe from front to back.  Jerseys and pants not even close.  Otherwise appreciatde the recognition for a great year.

Now let us kick Temple's butt.

Bill Wentz lives next to my parents in Worthington. I think Bill still holds the longest kickoff record of 100 yards for the school record.  Bill had a stroke several years ago and is fighting some other significant health issues.

Ben Jones who was a kicker is a friend of mine here in Richmond. Ben told me he was headed to Columbus to take part in the ceremonies to honor the team.

Gotta be honest; I really liked those uniforms.  And although the outcome was not optimal, that was one exciting game.

It was a great game as I was pulling for Russell Wilson who went to Collegiate high school here in Richmond with my neighbor. The younger brother is now captain of that team.  Not sure how the first year assistant who coaches both the secondary and special teams keeps his job after two blocked punts with the exact same scheme breakdown (lineman in backfield not sliding to his right to block) two weeks in a row.

I think it was determined that the padding created more risk.  I guess it was because helmet to helmet contact had the helmets sticking and thudding more than maybe glancing off each other.  Elmer Lippert was the last O$U player to wear the helmet 71-73.  Several of the Kansas City Chiefs including Richmond native Willie Lanier wore the helmet as well.

According to the Helmet Project, Ohio wore a version of this helmet from 64-65, probably with the Bill Hess - Hayes connection.

Russell Wilson -- maybe the only player in college football whose name promotes two equipment manufacturers.
