With the MWC and C-USA approaching the Big East about a "super-mega conference", begs the question of what if the MAC decides to swipe some teams to end the Big East.

I think the MAC could look like this

West
Northern Illinois
Ball State
Central Michigan
Western Michigan
Eastern Michigan
Cincinnati
Toledo
Bowling Green

East
Akron
Kent
Ohio
Miami
Buffalo
Temple
UMASS
Rutgers

Or we should go Divisional
Where we face all 3 teams in our division 2 from two other divsions and 1 from the last division

East
UMASS
Temple
Rutgers
Buffalo

Rivers
Ohio
Cincinnati
Miami
Akron - locked Game with Kent every year

Erie
Kent - locked game with Akron every year
Bowling Green
Toledo
Ball State

Midwest
Northern Illinois
Central Michigan
Western Michigan
Eastern Michigan

before anyone says this is crazy, think about the fact that Rutgers and Cincinnati both will likely lose their gimme BCS bid, and have to travel to possibly Boise or San Jose to keep it. Travel costs kill.

I would only give this a 5% chance of ever happening if we cut out some of the weak like Kent State, EMU, and Western Michigan.  Bottom line is that the MAC is never going to improve as long as we keep letting programs like EMU tag along.

I'll tell ya where we'll go. Someplace warm. A place where the beer flows like wine. Where beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano. I'm talkin' bout a little place called... ATHENS.

Cincinnati and probably Louisville will never (again, UC) be in the MAC.  The question for them and the other three remaining Big Easters is how far do they want to go to keep the auto bid?  I just think we would have better odds of getting UCONN and Rutgers.  None of the MAC teams helps the Big East...not even Temple.

I like us being in a new conference with teams like Marshall and East Carolina and others.

Since when is WMU weak?  They're consistently one of the strongest programs in the league.

How are we so sure UC will go the Big 12? craziest thing is UCONN might go Big 12 along with Louisville. With UCONN and Louisville in the Big 12 that leaves Rutgers and UC as well as South Florida to try to find a fit. South Florida I think will plead with the Super Confrence-USAMW. Not sure Cincy and Rutgers will, they might opt for the stability of the MAC, and this would be our chance to get UMASS and Temple for all sports, since there are rumors about a certain other Big East team flying to the Big 12.

None of these teams would ever ever join the MAC as we know it today. If a new conference was formed, and we got rid of the crappiest programs, and then rebranded with an entirely different name and new teams then I would give it a small chance. The MAC just has too negative of a connotation.

I think b28 has it right.  The only way something like this happens is if the MAC splits up and then a group of the better MAC programs combines with these schools under a new name.

Edit: The big question would be whether or not to include Temple. Might be a close call.

Right, but attendance last season was pretty weak.  Just not a big fan of directional Michigans I guess.  I'd add Ball State and Akron to the cut list too...

I recognize that these conference realignment threads are the height of conjecture and provide fertile ground for dreamers, but some of this stuff is either pathetically implausible, and some of it is almost Miami-level arrogant. Given our not-too-distant past of two-win seasons and “crowds” of less than 10,000, to blithely throw around the idea of kicking schools out of the MAC based on performance or attendance is ridiculous. I understand the desire to do better and be in a better conference, even if it’s by making the MAC better. There are plenty of things to fear and hope for in conference realignment, but we really don’t have much right to crap on other schools in the MAC. As just one example: Akron. Really!? Don’t get me wrong, they’re awful in football and aren’t showing much reason for hope there. They’re also in one of the MAC’s biggest markets, boast its best football stadium, have a much more recent conference championship than we do, deliver a solid basketball program, and own the MAC’s one and only national championship in any sport. Yet they’re somehow unworthy of competing with us? The best way for the MAC to thrive is for all of its programs to thrive. Athletically, we have a lot more in common with Kent State and Miami than we do with any program in any BCS conference. I wish for more and better like everyone else, including near-delusional dreams of grandeur, but I don't think we have a lot of room to slam any other programs. Hell, even EMU is winning this year.

No one is leaving the MAC.

No one is coming to the MAC (save for UMASS).

I'm pretty sure we can just get use to our soon-to-be 14 team conference for the long haul.

I have never understood why so many on this board look down on Akron.  If we were ever to form a new conference, Akron would be the team I'd look to bring with us right after Miami.

I've seen crazier things happen.

When did Ohio have crowds of less than 10,000?

Most Memorable Bobcat Events Attended
2010 97-83 win over Georgetown in NCAA 1st round
2012 45-13 victory over ULM in the Independence Bowl
2015 34-3 drubbing of Miami @ Peden front of 25,086

It may or may not show up in the box scores, but I was in school from 1992-1996. Yep, that includes the epic 1994 campaign. The team won SEVEN times the entire time I was in Athens. Not seven times at home. Seven times total. In that four-year stretch, there were two home victories over 1-A teams. Believe me, attendance was abysmal.

Cincinnati and Louisville will never ever ever be in the MAC, so we can throw that idea right out the window right now.

Never said Louisville would, and WVU never will join the MAC, UCONN won't either. Rutgers and UC might not make it to a big name conference.

Here is my predictions:

WVU & Louisville both go to Big 12, Big 12 makes a play to get BYU to make it 12 (after TCU says no to Boise)

Rutgers and UCONN both plead to have be in ACC, ACC votes them down (UCONN by BC's Veto)

UC, can't get into the Big 10, ACC won't take them after confirming they won't expand, and the Big 12 is content at their new 12 w/ BYU being the 12th.

Leaving 3 teams without a Confrence for Football, this causes the Big East to implode.

Another perspective.  Not one that I enjoy but seems realistic:  If you're the commissioner of a conference with aspirations, do you get kudos for announcing that Ohio is on your crew?
