Please, somebody help me understand what I am missing, I have been a Bobcat fan since the mid 60's and I have seen a lot of lackluster OU teams but today's performamce takes the cake. Maybe I had too high expectations of this team or perhaps I do not fully appreciate how the injuries have affected the play. I am not an expert by any stretch but I have played the game and coached quite a few years albeit not on the collegiate level. Today, I did not recognize our team. I could not see what the game plan was on either side of the ball unless it was to be as vanilla as possible; and if that was the game plan then they hit it squarely on the head. It shouldn't have come down to the field goal attempt and I surely do not blame the usually reliable kicker. It was windy. The game was lost when we gave up 10 points just before halftime because we could not execute. The one play that sticks out was the interception for the TD just before halftime. The ball was thrown well. The route was run well until the reciever saw he was going to get drilled crossing the middle and so he stopped. He did not stick a hand out to knock the ball away or make an attempt to catch it. He decided to stop running and avoid contact. He watched the interception and then made a poor tackling effort. That was very dissappointing. What was more dissappointing was what I perceived in watching the players off the field which makes me think we have totally lost the team concept. It's now just about me, Me, and ME!  For example: The same player that did not execute running his route also threw a TD pass. Nice play! When he runs off the field he does not run towards the coaches, the offensive coor, or the offensibe group. Instead he runs to the far end of the bench and high fives with his buds that are not in uniform. I cannot say if they were injured or redshirts or whatever but he clearly identified himself more with these non-active players more than the actual team. Disappointing. Late in the game as we attempt a comeback our leading receiver makes a catch and is cited by the PA for 150 catches or whatever, becoming the best of whatever, what does he do? He keeps the ball and slowly heads to the sideline with arms outstretched looking at the crowd on the student side posing as if  "Ain't I the best ever?" In the meantime the "TEAM" is still down three points. Very disappointing. I can remember other players reciving accolades in other years merely heading back to the huddle without taking bows at center stage. Should we have been ahead, OK... but not while we are attempting a last ditch comeback. Poor taste. Lastly, with game lost, the team heads to the band for the Alma Mater. What do our team players mentioned here do? They stand clearly away from the team and talk. Their conversations were clearly not bothered by the 110 or the singing by the "TEAM." What has happened? What happened to Relentless? Marcellis, black uniforms, etc. They sucked at Buffalo (a game we should have clearly won) and today they phoned it in. No passing down field. No QB option. Did we have a defense? No pass rush. No stunts. No pressure on their QB. The linebackers read run on passes and pass on runs. Very, very disappointing. Special teams: short kick offs, even with the wind. Punt receiving: bad breaks every time. A blocked extra point (how many times this year?).  Again, maybe injuries affected the whole game but I cannot defend the game plans , especiallly the offense. I think the players have decided the season is over. The intensity is gone and I am concerned we may not win another game, black uniforms or not.

I agree with many of your points but will not join in any criticism of Lavon Brazil.  He was the only player who showed up today.

Agree with you SBH about Lavon - his play making kept us in the game and has kept us in other games and has led to us winning games.  And I believe that he gives all that he can in an effort to help us win games.  I believe that he would have much rather won the game than get a record.  I applaud Lavon.   But, Oldcat - you make many good points that may be valid.

There are just too many variable that go into college athletics.  Most of us didnt play sports on the collegiate level, and were still stressed out on a daily basis throughout college.  Imagine workouts, practices, and games on top of classes, girlfriend, court st., family issues etc on top of things.  For all we know a key player could have a major test coming up this week, or have a very sick family member.  Maybe they couldn't focus all week because people in their dorms were drinking all week for homecoming.  Who knows, maybe they just have cold and feel like sh*t.  Sports arent their full time job like NFL players, so we cant hold them to the same standards.  Do we really thing they went out and gave 75% today infront of a homecoming crowd?  Of course not, they tried their best, Ball St was more focused, and won the game.  College kids have a whole lot more on their plate than winning a football game, and we cant expect perfect performances every week.

We can expect a perfect game every time out and will not want anything else. I will still be a fan but to expect less than 100% is crazy and a loseing attitude that will keep a team for being it best. If you want to give everyone a trophy pat them on back say it ok everyone wins go back to little league. I get mad watching teams I love not preforming at their best but I will not accept ohh I had people drinking around me or too much going on at homecoming or spent too much time with my girlfriend. They have a few  games and need to be sharp for every game every pratice or they will never get better never be the team they should be.

When you are perfect at your job every single time, then you can criticize the team.  All I'm saying is they're amateur athletes, with other stuff going on in their lives.  This is a part time job to them along with keeping grades, and maintaining their personal lives.  I have no doubt that they leave everything on the field every single time, but they're kids who have to deal with other things other than just football.

My son is a player on the team and for the record I have NEVER seen him more upset then after this loss.  Most of you are arm chair football players and it is so easy for you to point fingers as to what went wrong.  Our defense is marked with terrible injuries, but our offense just couldn't get it done either.  I feel very sad for all the players on this team who have given their best, however it just hasn't been good enough the past 2 weeks.  You can say it's was  the play calling, the lackluster of the whole team... but please do not give up on this team.. they DO have heart!

I don't doubt that it has been three weeks of disappointment for the players, too.  I am more concerned about the perceived loss of attitude and swagger than anything else.  I'm just glad we have a rational parent that stopped short of blasting the fanbase for being unhappy with the product on the field the past month.  All of us (fans, players, coaches, parents) share a common desire to have a great team every time out.  I doubt that any of the posters on this board are going to stop supporting the team.

I'm not an armchair QB but I have played one on TV. I'm also not ever going to give up on them. I think myself as a big Ohio football fan. But as a good fan I merely was saying that I am disappointed at what happened yesterday and the week before. And yes, I understand that student athletes will make mistakes. We all make mistakes but I still reserve the right to be disappointed in losing games that should have been won. I've always been disappointed at losing when we should have won. Lord knows that in the nearly fifty years of my watching Ohio football I've had plenty of disappointments but I keep going back because I love the city, the school, the stadium, the colors, the two hour drive, the game day spirit, the 110 (need I go on?). This team simply disappointed me with a lack of focus in executing the game plan and from what I perceived as a lack of team cohesiveness. I am sorry that I noticed it but I did notice it and thought it significant. I will not be discouraged however, as I will be in Akron next Saturday. Hopefully we can execute the offensive game plan to the level of which the team is capable. I am pleased to know that at least one player was terribly upset at the loss. Let's hope there were many others so that they can get focussed and get the ship headed in the right direction. If not, then I'll probably be disappointed again.

Swagger?  Hope to never see that.

Here's what we do need to see now:  For both sides of the ball to come out hard-nosed, dynamic smashing on the first series--then own the second half..  Versus kents and ballie our first drives got nothing.  Kinda think same thing against Rutgers.  Then, OUr D must first set crushdown.  Time to get blasted pysical. Then, own the 3rd and 4th quarters.

Here's what we need now and next year:  Step up star players.  Especially on the lines and at linebacker.  Elsewhere we are set.  As last year showed, we can only be so good if we don't have a fair number of our 'force' players make a bigtime mark.  So far this year, I'm not an expert but I don't see any all-MAC quality years at the physical positions.  Some bodies gotta start dominating.

Players dont call the plays..I have noticed a down tick in play calling since Marshall..this does affect team moral...for example backed up on our goal line with a minute and change to go and we run a QB draw that hadnt worked all day...DUMB
