I'm not sure if this is within the athletics dept., but Biz First reports that O$U allegedly has been big rigging, including for licensing of its apparel:

***United Students Against Sweatshops, a student activist group, also has posted online an email exchange it obtained between Rick Van Brimmer, director of trademark and licensing services, and a representative for the Dallas Cowboys , which is seeking a deal to produce Buckeyes apparel, the paper said. “The only caveat is that I may be forced into looking at ‘bids,’ simply because we are a state agency. But don’t fear that process. Again, you will know EVERY step we take,” Van Brimmer said, according to the paper.***

For state employees, it can't get much worse that this.  If proved, there could be slammer time involved.

The full story is here:

Wait a second, OCF. Bow-tie guy claims that his school is nothing more than the poster child for compliance.

Yes, Thank you!!! The Athletic department needs to step up and enforce this copyright. We are just rolling over on this again.

Damn, Olentangy Tech is approaching critical mass. We picked an amazing time to put together our best team in decades. Let's run the table and make Ohio the Bobcat State!

Please give me actual examples of A&M breaking the "Ohio" agreement.  Other than the OH-IO cheer, which is right on the edge of a violation, the University of A&M itself has been very good at compliance since the out-of-court settlement.  I've watched this very carefully -- even to the point of checking their official releases when one of our teams, even a minor sport, plays them.  They have been very good in always referring to us as "Ohio" -- no "Ohio U." crap.  However, some outside groups have not been properly re-educated, especially that dummkopf coach at UMich.

And there's more . . . .here's Buckeyextra's take on the recent developments.

Here's one quote from the article that has me thinking it's 1984 already:

"Two other Buckeyes were suspended, too: defensive lineman Melvin Fellows, who already is not playing this season because of a medical issue, and linebacker Etienne Sabino, who has been reinstated by the NCAA and will continue to play."

So, is Sabino playing while suspended or suspended while playing?  This is surely butchered syntax at its finest.

It's all over their shirts, without State. I don't care if it's in a black script and a reference to the band is implied. I don't care if it's a reference to their cheer. OHIO is ours. they can keep state. they have enough money, they have plenty of fans.

Are these on "officially licensed" merchandise?  If they are, then you're right, it's time for Schaus & Co. to apply a little legal muscle and dust off the out-of-court agreement and send it up to OU Legal with the evidence of the violations.

Any time I see this, it is stuff that looks hideous and basically there is no way it's licensed merchandise.  The University does fine with it (or so it seems), but that doesn't stop some local businessman with no clue and screenprinting equipment from making some cheap crap that just says OHIO on it in red and gray.
