Maybe someone else should wear #62 in the second half.

The whole D-line needs to wait for the Rutgers O-line to move.  We aren't getting to the backfield anyway, so why give them free first downs?

Rooting for Akron is like cheering on the Taliban.

Can an administrator of this board please delete this thread.

This is a fine young man and an excellent athlete. He gives 110% 24-7. Does not deserve this one bit.

Knowing this young man he is by far harder on himself than you could ever be.

Get rid of this crap and people please THINK before you post.

No doubt on all of those. it was posted in heat of the moment when he had jumped off sides three times on the same drive... He was obviously over amped at the time and that's why it was said. No one is questioning the effort of any of our guys, and I heard his name called several times later making key tackles. I just think he was too jacked up at the time and that's why I said it.

+1 on this.     If I was going to war, I'd want Curtis Meyers right beside me.

People of Earth! At no point did I say that he was not a good person, not a good player, not trying hard and not extremely valuable on the football field. Nor did I say that what he does is easy, because if it were, everyone would do it. Chill the freak out.

No, I'm not a coach. No, I didn't play in college, or even high school, and I'm not a certified therapist, and I don't even play one on TV.

My biggest mistake was making this its own thread and using the letter f in the subject line, instead of posting in the game thread so that the context of the time of the game would have remained. At that point in the game, he needed to calm down, as he was obviously over amped, and trying too hard to jump the snap and make a play. I don't fault his effort but at that point, he needed a play off to regain focus (I'm pretty sure that's exactly what happened too. Why not write a snarky letter to the coaching staff?).

You sound like politicians putting words and thoughts in my mouth.

Candidate: "I voted against that bill"

Opponent: "He hates children!!!"

I think the point is that you need to calm down.

Meyers is, and has been, all good for us.

It was pretty obvious that he needed to sit a play or two to get his bearings back. he was trying to hard to make a play. Which I dont fault him on, but i dont understand attacking the poster when what he was saying is true.

Because a direct, impetuous attack on one of OUr players who gives his all and about whom I can't remember a bad rumor or whisper is not who we are here.

Doesn't that really need explanation?

It names him personally.  The thought could have been expressed without naming him.  (Something like 'Our d-line is totally out of control this quarter').

Also, I believe the the original had the f-bomb in it.  The remark lacks consideration of Meyers' status and contributions to the program.

If the coaches on the sideline want to get on his case, okay.  Here, not so much.

This thread is as hilarious as the posts regarding the missing indoor practice facility images. I'm waiting for the Loose Change guys to release the documentary on that sordid affair.

It's almost as rootin' tootin' as the posts with the Marshall fans. I was truly worried that there would be a medicinal root trade embargo that would bring both sides of the mighty Ohio into economic despair.

So, you cannot make critical observations about individual player on-field performance. I get it  - they're college kids who are working tremendously hard at juggling school and athletics.

But we can still be critical of other school's student athletes? Wait, no. They're college kids too. So no critical observations on anyone - except coaches/administration. Got it, a fair rule worthy of the court of Solomon.

This message board really needs to have an updated TOS, especially since ours left for Smithfield awhile ago.

Seriously, you guys are soooo protective. No one went after his family, him as a person, etc. As college athletes, you probably have one of the best situations out there as far as D1 FBS football goes. The first negative thread directed at a player and people go crazy. Calm down, he heard 10 times worse I'm sure during the actual game.

True.  Except it's not for two reasons:

1)  If your internal gauge of integrity and what's right don't tell you that the original post was not called for, then you need to do some thinking.

2)  I post here under my real name.  Most of you find it convenient for whatever reason to use an alias.  But directly calling out a player by his name (instead of some general moniker such as 'the d-line' or 'the defense') is okay?

Sorry.  Reminds me too much of corporate CEO's who pay themselves a fortune while their workers get laid off or don't make much.  If you want to find a reason to justify your position you will.  But anyone with a sense of justice will see through it.

Please, Monroe. How does this thread remind you of ANYTHING related to corporate CEOs and your interpretation of their treatment of workers? That's a huge stretch. But nice insertion of politics...

Last year, I said I was disappointed about a string of missed blocks and penalties by the O-Line during a specific drive in a game.  I immediately got a PM that night from a parent that came dangerously close to physically threatening me for pointing out the on-the-field errors of their son.  Talk about out of line.

I have played, as well as coached sports.  There is a difference between calling out a player's actions and calling out a player's intentions.  The posters on this site generally recognize this.  I think our players are really talented and give everything they have on and off the field.  I also recognize they are going to make mistakes.  Calling attention to a particular play does not make me irrational or mean-spritied.

I am sure that most of the users of this board know what a "search engine" is like Yahoo or Google.

What is going to happen is in a year from now this young man might be looking for employment, or someone might be looking them up for whatever reason.  Believe it or not people, this crap will come up in the search if they were to google that persons name. This is why I asked an administrator to delete this thread.

Now wouldn't that bother you as a parent, a friend, or even someone that actually knows this young man.  Do you really want to potentially hurt someone over something so minute in the big picture of things?  How would you feel if it was your son or daughter?  You would be surprised at how many people visit this board.

If you are just busting out of your brain to critisize someone, can you at least just use their number instead of their given name?  Isn't the purpose of this board to encourage this team and root them on?

I make it a point to never critisize someone unless I have walked a mile in their shoes.  That way I am a mile away and they don't have any shoes.....

I also ask for W-L records to be attached to a resume.  I want the records all the way back to Little League too.  Only those over .500 lifetime get interviewed.  I once turned down someone for a job because they muffed a punt in juinior high.  What's next?  A cup of coffee spilled on an important client?

Give me a break.  Employers look at effort, accomplishment and attitude.  An athlete that made it to the collegiate level makes it to the top of the stack of resumes in our office, regardless of their ability to guess the snap count.

It's the thread title that's a bit over the top.  It sounds more derogatory than the actual message of the thread, which was about jumping off sides...and not, for example, repeated personal fouls.  That actually could hurt a kid's employment chances, potentially.

79DAD, I recall a previous thread about an OL, I think a couple years back, that actually was out of line.  Somebody misinterpreted a gesture to a buddy and then all kinds of crazy statements and accusations arose.  So I understand you wanting to protect the players from that.  DFC's post, though, was less harmful.  And at this point, the post content is deleted, so IMO there's nothing to see here.
