What did we learn today?

* We need Donte Hardin -- I doubt that we would have had 5 fumbles (losing 4) if he were in.

* We need Travis Carrie -- the secondary got chewed up without him; the return was ok but not as good.

* Double T is still a sophomore and still has a lot to learn on the option, but damn, he can throw the ball (23-36, 414 yds, no INTs) [Misread this from Rivals; Gametracker says 339 passing yards, which is still an outstanding day).

* Another fabulous one-hand grab -- Lavon Brazill is the real deal.

* Short kickoffs suck.

* Turnovers lose games.

* The D line still needs work.

* The O line can handle the pressure (no sacks) but will need to improve on the running game, especially facing Nix next week. [Rivals had no sacks, but Gametracker shows 3 sacks]

* Weller and Hershey are solid.

* Ball State isn't as bad as they showed against USF (although the might not be as good on the road as they are at home).

* Meant to add that BGSUCKS may be better than the 5th place than they were picked in the preseason poll and Fiami has a ways to go.

* We can still be 7-1 at the end of October, which isn't shabby.

The only thing today means is we cant go 12-0. That is perfect coach-speak, but really that's what it boils down to. We went up against a team that was motivated because they just got beat and had a week off to prepare for a potential BCS buster. Don't take this one too hard Bobcats, the conference season is all that matters from here on out.

You played a Rutgers that,although we are still putting it all together,Is a very potent team in all three phases.We have a ton of talented players who are still learning their craft.You have a very well coached and talented team. One that plays hard and gave us all that we could handle.The Final score is not indicative of how contested the game was. You should do very well in your conference.

- I learned that our secondary had no answer for a really good reciever.
- I learned that if we don't put the game away before halftime our poor pass rushing gets exposed.
- I learned that we would have destroyed Rutgers if we weren't mentally out of it for much of the game. How many times can we have the defense jump offsides?
- I learned that I can't be too hard on the defense when they're asked to play 40 minutes.

- I learned that we really need Harden in the backfield and for returns.
- I learned that there is no excuse for 4 lost fumbles.
- I learned that we are a better football team than Rutgers but allowed ourselves to get beat by not being in sync mentally.

- I learned that Tyler Tettleton is the real deal and am excited he will be leading our team for 3 years.
- I learned that our recieving corps is stacked and they all block beasts for each other.

frustrating lost.

I am already over the loss. Shot ourselves in the foot to many times. Just need to bounce back and give Kent a couple years worth of pay back. Cant wait till next Saturday!

Was in attendance today. I learned that any hopes of ever joining the Big East in the near term is a pipe dream. From the practice facilities, to the visitor center, to the stadium atmosphere, to the scoreboard, to the amount of tailgating, to the fan support. Unfortunately we are playing on a different level. It aint happening.

They may have trouble getting bowl eligible this year. They have Cincy at home next week, so they could very well be 0-4. In their last 8 games, they're at Toledo, at Temps, WMU at home and at Ohio. They'll probably have to win at least two of those just to get to 6 wins. They have a lot to panic about.

The stadium expansion was to be paid by private donations.They built it before those donations came in.They never did,now we get to pay for it out of our state taxes.

What you saw was the first "real" home game of the year,and the stadium wasn't close to full. I know a lot of season ticket holders.When RU us doing badly,the crowds disappear.

Also,to put things in perspective,RU is the only Division 1 football team in the whole state and they can't sell out their stadium.

Good thread and pretty good posts here.

Rutgers seems pretty good. I'll bet that they have a good record by the time that the year is over.

The big disappointment is that we never figured out that stopping #6 might be a good idea. He's a heckuva player, but c'mon. Not stopping him let them be successful on third down which led to...38-26. And what happened to our kick-off coverage?

But look. In prior years today's injuries and the loss of Harden would've crushed us. But now we have the depth to compete despite these injuries. Let's re-group and get the next one. BEAT kents!!!

We need more experience against top rank competition. We're now about ready for that. And dig this: GOTFRANK's best recruiting class is largely redshirting and we're light (need more 290+ lb guys) on the d-line. I suspect that this year will bring another fine recruiting class. Would be nice to put a 220+ lb outside linebacker on the field next year, too.

Today hurt a bit. A win would've been huge.

But I'm a buyer. The rest of this year can be really exciting. And next year, better.

Ummm.... sorry to bring up something that I'm sure no Ohio fan really cares about, but no it didn't. Those cuts were made years prior due to the continued lack of support (aka $$$) from our state government.

EDIT: a large amount of donations were made, in addition to the $60 mil that RU is receiving from the stadium naming rights deal. You wouldn't happen to be one of the posters from the wasteland that is nj.com would you?

Our running back depth hopefully will get deeper each game and each year...Boykin needs more experience and a third back needs to be found.

* We need Travis Carrie -- the secondary got chewed up without him; the return was ok but not as
good.

Travis is like a senior so more experience needed here as well.

* Double T is still a sophomore and still has a lot to learn on the option, but damn, he can throw the ball (23-36, 414 yds, no INTs) [Misread this from Rivals; Gametracker says 339 passing yards, which is still an outstanding day).

On offense he's our best player and he gives me hope that we'll beat most of the MAC teams and will be bowl eligible this year.

* Another fabulous one-hand grab -- Lavon Brazill is the real deal.

We need to make sure he gets the ball as much as possible.

* Short kickoffs suck.

When was the last time we kicked one out-of-bounds....that really stinks.

* Turnovers lose games.

Rutgers might be the best athletes we play all year.....ball protection should improve.

* The D line still needs work.

Kings return will help....but I think we should work in a true freshman or 2...since we have 6.

* The O line can handle the pressure (no sacks) but will need to improve on the running game, especially facing Nix next week. [Rivals had no sacks, but Gametracker shows 3 sacks]

First team or second team....maybe the best unit on the team.

* Weller and Hershey are solid.

Agreed a little scared about that one. They look to be the best team in the MAC at this point. The good thing is it seems like the MAC is a lot stronger than previous seasons. It seems we have gained a little bit of respect.

Yesterday also confirmed what the other games this year have indicated: Unlike last year, we have stars--very talented guys who are doing it on the field. #93 is a personal favorite.
