I wanted to pull into one thread what seems to be an overall (well deserved) sentiment...

From "Relentless" to Billboards to Game Promotions...

From Scheduling to Recruiting to Coaching to Student Support to the Planned IPF...

From the tailgating experience to growing stadium operations proficiencies...

From grasping and taking advantage of the magnitude of the Battle for the Bell game...From the Uni's to the slow walk arm-in-arm player entrance to a bell tolling from the loud speakers after the game...

The Campus is indeed taking on a new feel...THIS is where long running support and success starts...

No offense (seriously), but when a losing A&M score is announced in Peden and it's met with more cheers than groans, it's a HUGE day in OHIO's path!

For those of you who missed the 110 postgame show, this is for you.  Maybe more incentive to stay after the game, perhaps?!

well... if there's one thing to complain about... it's the concessions (Not talking about the actual food either).

This needs to get squared away. It's not like there aren't enough people working there (maybe too many, actually) but what a disaster. almost the entire halftime to get a bottle of water. Still doing calculations in notebooks and pencils. We simply seem to be totally blindsided by big crowds and the fact that people might want something to eat or drink during the game. It wasn't the length of the line either, it's that the line was simply at a standstill. And for goodness sake, put up a rope or two so people can get in one line!! We can get rid of the scramble! People waiting for food/drink don't block the whole dungeon preventing folks from getting to the bathrooms or the exits, and others don't get punished for being in the "slow line".

Agree there...

That's why I used the word "growing"...

I've talked to different AD's about that situation and it seems like we're still too "hands off" when it comes to that aspect oof the game day experience.  Too much responsibility is left to the contractor...If they insist on leaving the relationship that way, they at least need to institute some contractual penalties for service.  Maybe institute a line timing system or something...

But...I really didn't want to get bogged down in the negative...

Just a REALLY exciting time to be a Bobcat!

Notice that.  It used to happen regularly "back in the day" but not recently.  I take this as a sign of an improving self-image among OHIO fans.

I even heard a few cheers for the Temple score besides mine, which I attributed to the awareness of this board to Ohio fans.

Give yourselves a hand.

I, for one, was hoping Temple would knock off Penn St., despite MH55. What's good for the MAC is good for Ohio.

Just like I was hoping against all hope all last week that UT would upset Boise St. That changed, somewhat, Friday afternoon when I heard the tools on 1460 The Fan mention that a Toledo win over Boise St. would make an o$u look better, something that we never hope for.

I agree with the original post.  Game day operations have gotten very good.  The way the Marshall game was handled was largely professional and all worked out well.

If you don't stay for the 110's performance after the game, then it's like you weren't even at the game.  It's a must.    Ya need to get on the field or the very first rows of stands.  Their sound is amazing.  In fact, it's a little muddied during the game up in the stands...but terrific in concert mode when you're right down low.

Then, if there's a volleyball game afterward and you don't mosey over to that, again, what's wrong with you.

And to think, after all these years and all these games, I've haven't actually been to any Bobcat home games. I don't know how I'm going to break the news to my young son who thought he had a blast Saturday night.

You make a point.  I need you to try staying afterward a little bit next time.  Please do report back.  You'll be pleased.  And the little boy will be thrilled beyond words.

Cut the concession stands some slack. Most of the stands are run by high school kids from Alexander High School's ATD music group. The kids get to run it as a fund raiser for their summer concert tours around the country.

Unfortunately, way too many Ohio fans do not appreciate how great the 110 is. I'm down south now (in Dr. Suk's hometown) where the bands of the traditionally black colleges are known for their excitement. I've seen them with great anticipation only to come away very unimpressed. They were fine, but nowhere near the 110 !!!

I've also seen many of the so-called super bands from the BCS schools. The 110 is still the most exciting band in the land. And if there were others who were better, I wouldn't mind saying so.

As for any post-game show, there should be thousands of Bobcat fans staying for it. It is really something worthwhile to enjoy and appreciate. I really, really miss it myself living so far away.

Thanks for the YouTube video. Outstanding.

For those away from Athens who miss tremendously seeing the 110 play, I'd like to share a link to a YouTube account I discovered earlier.  Superb audio and video quality on the 720p setting: www.youtube.com/user/sbally26

The concession stand experience is a disaster.  It however, really doesn't have a great deal to do with the personnel although they should be able to add in their head but that's a topic for another thread at another time.  The problem is the design of the area relative to what is being sold.  When the building was designed, the number of offerings was far from what it is today.  Popcorn, a hotdog and fountain coke with the fountain in front of the server.  Now you have nachos, pizza and bottled beverages all in very large appliances behind the servers.  It's just too crowded in there.  When I worked in the concession stands at Blossom in the early 70s where we were doing the equivalent of over $30,000 a night on big nights, we had plenty of room and service close to 20,000 people out of two stands.

Not sure we're going to redesign the stands though on tight budgets when you only have the problem 4 to 6 times a year.  The big problem this week was the will call lines.  At five minutes before kick off the line if straight stretched across Richland Avenue.   We need a ticketing system that you can print from the online order.

I also have to give big ups to everyone involved in one of my best nights ever in Athens watching my 'cats play.

as for food issues, one thing they could do on the cheap that would help speed things is a few quick stop stands.  Bottled bev only stands/ lines would speed some of your folks through.

That was the first game I never saw a single vendor make it more then three rows up the family pack sec without  selling out. Most of the folks around me never left there seats and if more guys selling would have made it to us they would have sold even more.

Maybe a soda only stands in the wing areas would be nice.  They have added the braut stand there.  Most of the time I just want a drink and that could speed it up, plus more vendors in the stands.  Saw quite a few in my area which was nice.  Marshall fans were buying at a pretty good clip.  I agree the area needs to be redesigned, but until they have money we need to find a way to make it at least a little better.

From The Post article linked above:

Against Gardener-Webb 10 days ago, a jubilant quartet of Bobcat fans donned body paint and spelled out O-H-I-O in the first row of the west bleachers at Peden Stadium.

But the group became a trio as the second “O” left. Then, the “I” departed.

Reminds me of how the principal at my school, a buckeye fan, tries to get the students to do the "O-H" . . ."I-O"  chant. And how I explained to the students in my fifth-grade class that they should just do an "H-I" chant since the buckeys apparently have no "O" after Saturday's game v. the Hurricanes.

Haven't  we come a long way in such a short time? Now that we have fair sized crowds in attendance at the games we can shift focus to express outrage and contempt over the concession queue. Holy mackerel, folks! Maybe it's just another ploy by the athletic department to entice us to buy better season tickets. I heard there is no waiting for concessions in the Tower Club.

Still can't figure out why the PA announcer thru the 110 and or the Athletic Dept doesn't announce a few times thru-out the game to stay and check out the 110's post-game show. I'm betting a vast majority of the students have NO idea the 110 actually plays after the game. For anyone attending homecoming IF you don't stay for the 110 and the Alumni 110 combined post-game show well shame on you for what you're missing! It's worth the price of admission alone.
